Clearly THE BEST version of how to play "More Than a Feeling" on acoustic and THE BEST teacher! I appreciate so much your teaching style. It's very concise and accurate and to the point. Thanks so much. I'm an older guy now (56) and regret so much putting down the guitar for the so many years that I did. I've picked it up again about 4 years ago and I'll never put it down again!! I've always wanted since I was 14 (back in the day when this song came out) to know how to play this song right! Now I know! Thanks again so much!
THE BEST guitar instructor on the web. Period! You don't bore people with any kind of music theory. Nothing wrong with music theory but you just give players advice and little tid bits that may improve their playing and have fun at the same time. You teach SONGS and that's why I and thousands of others watch. Thank you!!!
There are many great guitar teachers on the web, but your attention to detail and production are unparalleled. Its not much, but I donated a few shekels in appreciation. Thanks for you hard work and helping the rest of us ham-n-eggers get better.
fell in love with this song when i was a 12 year old kid and it hit the radio in 1976 i knew jack shit about music but i knew i loved Rock and this Kicked Ass, sounded insanely good, different and special..no clue why...I just knew this was one of the most perfect songs ever composed. 40 years later it is still one of the most perfect songs to listen to, any time,...ever. Oh, and CRANK it. PS your detail and Lessons cover ALL the little details i have listened to, obsessed over, and dreamed of understanding,... for 40 fukin years lol. Thanks again. *** If YOU appreciate this mans lessons... DONATE. i'm broke and mostly between jobs lately but i found a way. ***
Ed G. I’m right there with ya. I was 13 and growing up in Milwaukee when this hit the airwaves and I’ve unapologetically loved the music of Boston since then... you can say I’ve never looked back😆. Sorry...couldn’t help myself.
I knew Sibby & Franny from when they would frequent my parents restaurant in the early 70s before Boston hit. In 76 he ran into me at a convenience store in Lynn Massachusetts. He said, "JOHNYYYYYY! Wait till you hear our new album. It's gonna blow you away!" Sibby was very animated and quite an individual. People dont mention Sibby often. He was very important. Rock In Peace Sibby. R&R misses you. 🙏🏼
I feel obligated to leave a comment, since I've watched this video like about 20 times straight through (so far). I picked up guitar about a month ago, not expecting I would like it as much as have. I LOVE it. I've played a lot of other instruments, but this has by far been the most addicting and fun. So anyway, I've always loved the song More Than a Feeling, so I looked up a tutorial, and found this. Yeah, I know - probably not the best song for a complete novice at guitar. But I just want to let you know that it's been incredible. It's been above my head, but I've persevered, and your video has helped me learn SO MUCH. I'm gonna keep watching this until I get it down. But I've just gotta let you know: awesome tutorial, man. I love it. Had to rewind a lot, but it's really been great. Thank you.
I probably left a similar message on another video of yours but I'll say it again, "I have become a much better guitar player because of your tutorials. You break it down seemingly with ease. Your explanations on music theory alone has taught me a great deal. ". Thank you. Your are my guitar Sensei. Btw thanks for wearing a black long sleeve shirt on a black background. I'm so easily distracted by colors or bright objects. It looks like your hands float. Thanks again sensei.
I have the original vinyl album that I bought back in '76, still play it, and you, as usual, nailed the guitar parts on this song and make it so damn fun to learn... Thank you, again, for your masterful tutorials!
The level of detail in this lesson is amazing. You're a great teacher. Between this song and Julia and Dear Prudence and Mother Nature's Son -- never in a million years did I think I'd be able to play these songs, but you've got me playing them.
I know it's been a while since this video but dude! You're the only instructor I can Excell with mainly cuz you call the strings out by Their assigned letter rather than 1st 3rd 4th etc...really more easily sinks in to the thick skull. You're the best.
1 month later I got through this entire video. I still can't play the entire song fluently, mostly because I need to work on my picking skills. I started off just learning finger picking so now I have to figure out how to use a pick lol. When I first started guitar over a year ago, this is the song I dreamed of being able to play and look good doing so. Thank you so much for making this video as I could not find any other versions that were as in depth and had good enough tabs and chords meshed together.
Sounds magical! This video really shines the spotlight on the simplified versions. Wow, the very best. So good in fact it's even more intimidating to learn.
I actually stoped playing guitar because i lost interest in it for some reason ... And since I loved this song, this brought me back in it, specially since i've seen it's not made simple, and I even didn't have trouble learning it because I knew alot from 2 years ago and i learned alot without playing along. I must say it's a great tutorial and thanks to this video, it cought up my interest in playing guitar back :)
Dig your accurate & detailed deconstructing of parts on all lessons. Reveals simple mis-takes Ive missed yet each track is comprehensive & cool project.
Was i High school in the mid to late seventies and other than Boston and Peter Frampton, I fell in love with the guitar music of that time along with the singer song writers of that era. I wish I learned more about guitar earlier.
Excellent tuts. Comprehensive. Accurate. Love the way you give some perspective or history of the song and artist. If you’re teaching the song then I’ll always check it out first. Have learned a number of songs from your tutorials and very grateful. 🙏👍
Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this tutorial! So many people take this kind of thing for granted and don't realize how easy they have it. I grew up without the internet and I couldn't imagine learning guitar without it. Thank you!
I've been checking out your lessons this evening for the first time, and I want to say I truly appreciate the way you teach! I've been performing live for 35 years so I'm fairly advanced, and nothing drives me more insane that waiting for the instructor to name string fret etc rather than calling the chord or individual notes in a riff, lol, even though their lesson may be spot on. Thank you for detail and direct teaching style; keep up the good work!! Yes, I subscribed ha ha ha
Jack Armstrong III I've been playing for 4 months and it's really difficult for me to learn this because he assumed we know the chords and the strumming pattern
Andy, love the way you convey your enthusiasm for each of the pieces you choose for your tutorials. lt gives many of us who are learning a greater appreciation for what goes into creating a song like this. Thanks so much!!!
Killer lesson! As a medium level guitar player ( keyboards /composer), I am getting this down smooth at about 3/4 speed.... Thanks so much and I will definitely contribute when I can and or by merch... Cheers 🍻 Alex
Toujours aussi précis merci pour toutes ces chansons...j'ai beaucoup appris de tes leçons et j'apprends encore malgré mes 39 ans de guitare. Les commentaires toujours pertinents...Big thank you for your Work.
I’m learning this to commemorate my new 1982 Guild 12-string as the perfect new song to learn. Tutorial is not disappointing and my guitar sounds beautiful :)
Some of the sweetest guitar work ever in this song Boston is a legend in my mind unbelievable vocals and monster musicians this song is so complex you do a great job showing all the little details that are hard to pick out sometimes I wonder what it is like to write and perform music like this must be mind blowing :-) Thanks so much for posting!
David Mohr David, I think I still have a Boston album from the 1970s with this song on it and it's on a 8 track tape. This song and Don't Look Back are my favorite Boston songs. You are right.
It sounds perfect ,yes others are simpler but always missing something.I find the extra work makes it all happen and sound fantastic.I am a beginner but this is the lesson i will work at!!Thanks for giving us such a great effort ,very appreciated!
guyguyguyjean Thanks! Yeah, what I'm trying to do on my channel most of the time is to figure out exactly what the guitar parts are on the record. There's always ways to play things simpler but if that's what folks want, then this is the wrong place to be! cheers
This has been life changing for me. Thank you so much, being quite new to guitar, I just sat for hours and hours and hours and eventually pieced it all together. Thank you for bringing one of my all time top tracks to my fingers. Great work.
Jason Crawley I'm envious that you found this channel so early in your guitar journey Jason. I had to "un learn" and "relearn" the entire song lol. Beside being an exceptional musician, this guy has that rare ability to teach how a song should be played, and how it should sound.
I think you are providing the best break down of lessons on the net to date. Keep it up keep adding the great ones and I'll figure this stuff out. Thanks again.
I much appreciate and echo the fine instruction . It is amazing how some of the greatest rock songs of all time are actually fairly easy to play when stripped down from the layers of studio production by those with excellent ears.
I like watching tutorials. Maybe one day I'll pick up my guitar and actually play along. Have to say this one is very very good. Thank you for doing this.
Most everything by Boston is a Rock Masterpiece. Fun Fact: When Tom started writing and for a while into it, More Than a Feeling had a working title “95 Miles”.
Thanks for these videos! I'm getting there. I'll make a video when I'm really good at it. I'm just getting back into guitar but this time I'm playing finger style on a classical. I've grown my four "picks" out nicely (working on the calluses) and this song sounds fantastic totally acoustic and natural! After I'm done I wanna learn the solos so I can mix em into the rhythm part... then to sing too. Way fun. Thanks again.
man you are the best teacher I've came across, you play everything perfect to the T and it sounds great, if I had half your skill I'd be happy, you kind of make want to smash my guitar into my amp sometimes but learning to play the song the right way instead of shortcuts made my playing ten folds better so thanks for all the great lesson!
MARTIN ARMSTRONG Thanks Martin, yeah dealing with frustration is a HUGE part of learning an instrument for sure. Thing is though, if you battle through it, you get a great feeling of accomplishment when you can finally play whatever it is that been pi*sing you off. cheers
Ole TS loves those suspended notes. I do too since I became a fan years ago. I love how you make this so clean and smooth. I hope TS sees this and likes it :D
ok....i have to comment here....after 30 + years of seeing and hearing this song played by Boston and others you are the first one actually plays the verse riff D to C,B,G, DESCENDING on the high E and B string ... correctly!!!!!!! My god i am so happy some one else heard this. Tom Scholz doesn't even play it right.....I have always wondered why??? what the heck?
+Amplifierman Thanks for this. Yeah, funny because when I see live videos of Boston, the guy playing the acoustic part plays it a lot different than what's on the record! I would have thought that Tom Schulz would be a stickler for getting the parts right, but maybe he also likes guys to do a bit of their own thing too. Who knows, but for me, these songs are total classics and I want to learn the part as close to exact as it was originally played. I mean you wouldn't start changing the notes around to Moonlight Sonata or Eine Kleine Nachtmusik would ya?! Yeah, I know it's a little different, but not that much in my opinion. cheers
Awesome lesson! I was just looking at a Taylor214 ce yesterday, came back and was watching this video, thinking..that sounds like that one at the music store...gonna get one! Thanks.
"I'm not gonna name every single fret and stuff because you can see it's a D-Chord" THANK YOU! Aside from your interpretation of the song being very beautiful and awesome to play solo, so many lessons for songs are extremely confusing because of all the "3rd string 4th fret, 2nd string 29th fret" stuff. Well explained without too much string/fret confusion! Thanks man!
I wanted a challenge today and I found it. Love Boston, Love this song! Good thing I know my chords! LOL GREAT teaching, very easy to follow you go step by step and that is perfect for me. My brother is a phenomenal guitarist but lacks the patients when it comes to teaching me...So it's nice when I can surprise him when I play new songs for him...I get the ole " way to go sista " high five! I have you to thank for this song. Definitely subscribed and looking forward to learning more songs from you! Peace!
Fantastic lesson, as always! Love this song, too! Thanks so much for putting so much effort and time into your lessons, I always learn so much from them!
Roger Paterson Thanks a lot Roger. I really love all these classic songs so I have a gas doing the videos. It's good to know people are enjoying them too. thanks for watching bro.
You are by far the best song teacher I've learned from. I've learned several songs from you that have enhanced my guitar skills, and have given me a chace to play some of my favorite songs. Thanks again for this great lesson.
Thanks for the awesome lesson. I have always loved this song from the moment I heard it in 1976, and I never get tired of hearing it. Great attention to the subtle details. Love your channel name Shutup & Play. I have a T-shirt that I had printed with a guitar and that exact wording on it, kind of my "anti American Idol, all I know how to do is sing", message to the world.
FINALLY. The song played as it is. Thank you. Boston themself cannot even play the damn intro correct, it is embarrassing. I have had several long discussion with so called guitar experts on music magazines that their tabs were wrong, but they are apparently deaf.
Although T. Schulz was musically trained as a youth, he started playing guitar while he was in college at the age of 21 (1968). Boston's debut album was released summer of 1976.
Thanks I rate this as you best lesson . Nice touch , timing and full complete notes seem to be right there ! I've always wanted to be able to play this song . Thanks
This was the first album I ever had. Got it for Christmas 1978, I think. I have always loved Boston. I watch all your videos and there very good lessons. Thanks for going to all the trouble to do them. I was wondering if you could do any Cheap Trick song. Thanks again.
Me too bill tanner. I bought this when I was 11 years old with my first allowance LoL. At the time I was intrigued by the album cover and "more than a feeling" was played heavily on the radio. I literally grew up listening to this album.
you got it chief , tom Schultz is a genius, yeah his guitars had a 'sound', like Brian Mays, distinctive , they may not have played as many notes as others but the solos screamed, I couldn't see 5 years on the technical side of playing this, pretty basic, effective though, very bright catchy phrasing, this song used to be my alarm clock, nice way to wake up ya know. So many pop/rock songs use a D Cadd9 G Em,etc. type progressions, and serve them up as completely different songs,, ah creativity, maybe there is still a little magic in these progressions, most of it hasbeen used up,,try to combine them in different but musically meaningful ways and there exists a new magic tune
What else to say? I've got send you some more juice for the cookie jar. Thank you, Andy, you've given me so much over the years. You have differently improved my playing. Right?
Clearly THE BEST version of how to play "More Than a Feeling" on acoustic and THE BEST teacher! I appreciate so much your teaching style. It's very concise and accurate and to the point. Man this is so nice to see ! Finally the music I love . Thank you to whomever made this , I say you're awesome .
Love it! Not overly complicated just need to practice! I too just started playing after many years. Finally got my calluses back.
Dude, ya Killin me, don't you ever make mistakes.
I'm not worthy....
Damn !!!!! I wish we had You Tube back in the 70´th !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ain't that the truth!
Has to be a trade-off I guess: actual good music for easy access to good music
I like watching tutorials. Maybe one day I'll pick up my guitar and actually play along. Have to say this one is very very good. Thank you for doing this.
Excellent work. Having played Guitar for 25 years I know the level of skill here. Keep it up Bro. Roby.
Roby Lazarus Thanks Roby.

Very detailed and great for people who want that "original sound". Thanks for the lesson man!
Jeremy Knase Thanks Jeremy.
Thanks for what you do sir. These lessons are absolutely what I am looking for
Very nice! Most accurate lesson I've seen and impressive playing. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic lesson, as always! Love this song, too! Thanks so much for putting so much effort and time into your lessons, I always learn so much from them!
Roger Paterson Thanks a lot Roger. I really love all these classic songs so I have a gas doing the videos. It's good to know people are enjoying them too. thanks for watching bro.
never realized how much went on acoustically etc. nice job as always, thanks man.
As always ...unbelieveably good and thank you!!
Very nicely done. It would help to give occasional lyric references at the various parts. Just a thought. Even still, one of the best tutorials on YT.
that extra note on the intro is what I was looking for, been playing it the other way and just didnt sound quite right,thanks..good lesson
mrlafayette1964 Yeah it's crazy how that one note makes all the difference. 99% of guys playing it miss that note! Thanks for watching bro.
Perfect instruction by a talented guitarist. Thank you!
A fantastic lesson from an excellent tutor. Thanks.
great work, thank you very much! I love the song and am glad to be taught it properly
Love his lessons. Also really dig the BnG guitar building commercial.
What a fantastic song, and you did an excellent job of teaching the song
You are by far the best song teacher I've learned from. I've learned several songs from you that have enhanced my guitar skills, and have given me a chace to play some of my favorite songs. Thanks again for this great lesson.
Thanks for the awesome lesson. I have always loved this song from the moment I heard it in 1976, and I never get tired of hearing it. Great attention to the subtle details. Love your channel name Shutup & Play. I have a T-shirt that I had printed with a guitar and that exact wording on it, kind of my "anti American Idol, all I know how to do is sing", message to the world.
zeppafloyd Thanks for watching! cheers
I agree it’s definitely a Masterpiece.
Another awesome lesson. Thanks so much Andy. Keep on rockin'!
As usual, fantastic lesson. You are quite a player and instructor
all these details really make difference. tks for this great lesson!
cleber de vasconcellos Yeah it's all about the details for sure. You're welcome for the lesson and thanks for watching.
@ 7:50 thx for clearing that up. I thought I was going insane.
Great Channel!
that guitar sounds so awesome :O
Philipp Original Thanks Philipp!
Is that a Taylor? Which model? Sounds great.
Yeah it sounds so freaking nice man I love it !!!!
FINALLY. The song played as it is. Thank you. Boston themself cannot even play the damn intro correct, it is embarrassing. I have had several long discussion with so called guitar experts on music magazines that their tabs were wrong, but they are apparently deaf.
***** Thanks for watching Jeppe!
***** That's because the original guitar player isn't in the band after the 2nd album.
Taylor guitars will forever be my favourite, they sound so good
It's a masterpiece, no doubt!
Another gem! Very well done and explained.
reso1349 Thanks again reso. Hope your ulnar is improving bro. cheers
thx for the lesson :-)....you explain the intricacies of the song which is impressive.
Although T. Schulz was musically trained as a youth, he started playing guitar while he was in college at the age of 21 (1968). Boston's debut album was released summer of 1976.

I'm at 9:13 in this lesson (just want to mark it so I can pick up on it tomorrow!)
Great lesson very impressed.
Thanks I rate this as you best lesson . Nice touch , timing and full complete notes seem to be right there ! I've always wanted to be able to play this song . Thanks
rockanthems Thanks! Glad it helped.
This was the first album I ever had. Got it for Christmas 1978, I think. I have always loved Boston. I watch all your videos and there very good lessons. Thanks for going to all the trouble to do them. I was wondering if you could do any Cheap Trick song. Thanks again.
bill tanner Hey Bill, thanks for that bro. I always liked Cheap Trick, maybe down the road I'll do a lesson on one of their tunes. cheers
Me too bill tanner. I bought this when I was 11 years old with my first allowance LoL.
At the time I was intrigued by the album cover and "more than a feeling" was played heavily on the radio. I literally grew up listening to this album.
Great Lesson !!! Best version I have heard so far.
superb very well taught, you explain it very well and i'm impressed
Vivian Jones Thanks Vivian.
MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS,,!! YOU are really good...from Spain
you got it chief , tom Schultz is a genius, yeah his guitars had a 'sound', like Brian Mays, distinctive , they may not have played as many notes as others but the solos screamed, I couldn't see 5 years on the technical side of playing this, pretty basic, effective though, very bright catchy phrasing, this song used to be my alarm clock, nice way to wake up ya know.
Enjoyed the video, I can see you put a great deal of effort into this song. It shows, well done.
Thanks' for share this video, I liked the way that you teach and the sound of your guitar.
juncamar marti Thanks Juncamar!
