- Anchovy hops! What?! Yeah you got that right. Here's some new hops we picked up from Yakima Valley Hops.
Anchovy hops promise to deliver Pine, Watermelon Candy and Raspberry flavors.
We overwhelmingly got a vanilla and lemon like quality. John really noted a bit of an earthiness quality to the flavor along with some pine and pithiness.
This hop doesn't deliver on the qualities the growers suggests however, the pronounced lemon quality would make this an excellent hop for you summer beers or even an interesting Saison or Witbier.

I've come to learn that there is a scale kind of when you let friends and family and whoever tastes your brew. You get a slew of different descriptions of the beer and most don't agree with yours as the brewer cause they don't understand the differences between styles of beer. At least that's what happens to me

I just brewed a pale ale with anchovy hops and get the same flavor notes that you guys get. Kinda disappointing that it's nothing like the description on yakima valley hops. It's still a nice hop, but I'd say lemon pith is the main flavor for this one.

Thinking the hop may be good in a sour, maybe a saison.
I find that Chico really drives that “candied” flavor in fruity and citrusy hops. I wonder how some of these hops would present with a yeast like LA3 which tends to bring out “riper” and less-refined flavors. So many variables in brewing!
