What do Pink Hops Taste Like? SMaSH Beer Experiment - Brew Dudes

- This week, we try out experimental hops ID-158, AKA Pink hops, in our SMASH beer series.
This hop had strong pithy bitterness and a pithy aroma. The flavor was a bit of fruit specifically red berry and possible cherry in nature.
The flavor profile was fairly unique but it was somewhat non-descript and hard to nail down to a specific flavor profile.
Overall, this hop would probably work OK as a filler hop with other hops that had more of the notes you might be trying to work into the brew, such as berry, vanilla or light pithy bitterness.
CHEERS!

Don't want, chives, green pepper, or that
Fishy thingy in my beer. Nor cut grass. 😅
Rant alert: I too recently bought some hops from Northern Brewer and it had no indication of IBU's. Totally ridiculous. And I don't think they're flushed with nitrogen. They have gone down hill IMO in the last few years. I won't be patronizing NB in the future. My LHBS and MoreBeer are my go to's. Thanks for the video Dudes!
I've been ordering from Morebeer for about 14 years. I highly recommend. Free shipping on orders over $59.
Sometimes I go to the local HB shop, but it's not that close to me, so I mainly only go there if I can't wait for shipping.
Yeah… morebeer has been good to me recently- got damaged dry yeast and they replaced it no questions asked and they shipped the replacement in a box with packing instead of an envelope to save on shipping on their end
It's a justifiable rant. I have a pack of Saaz that's the same way. Northern Brewer what's up with that?
Fun fact: Swedish Fish are lingonberry flavored
I don't know how you guys find the time to produce a video every single week especially when you're brewing for the video as well but I really appreciate the content! Keep up the awesome work!
We don't understand it either, but we keep rolling. Thanks for the support! Cheers! -Mike
This sounds like another example of a producer trying to find another Mosaic. On paper, Mosaic has a similar profile, ie all over the map, berry, citrus, tropical, woody/piney, higher alpha.
WOW every video just keeps getting better and better!
If two hops are more than the sum of their parts, this might be a good one to use with other hops, to add more complexity and boost them. If it's cheaper than Citra, for example, it might yield a better result using Citra and Pink than Citra alone and for cheaper. 🤷
Just packaged a beer dry hopped with this. Got really distinct apple/pear aromas. Haven't tasted it cold and carbonated yet though.
Mike kills me, "This beer tastes like fish and onions with frosting on top"... LMAO
a suggestion ,im no master of the craft lol, but if the purpose of the hop is suppose to be early or late boil then use it that way
Genuinely enjoy these videos. My buddy wants to brew a very hoppy SMASH beer for every hop he can get and he's going to love this.
Swedish fish? Yay from 🇸🇪.
My mother allways kept geraniums, I allways HATED the smell, will stay away of this hop. When it comes to fish, I´ll stick with Norwegian ;D
😂 - Swedish Fish…cultural reference lost on me. Didn’t sound at all appealing until I realised it didn’t taste fishy.
