    Sovol reached with some feedback:
    1. For the HDMI screen, currently we have 3 ways to install it:
At first our HDMI screen and knob screen are designed to function at the same time. So it’s just placed on the side of the machine and does not require the customer to print anything. Later, many customers said that they wanted to replace the position of the knob screen with an HDMI screen. So we temporarily designed a bracket for customers to print. That’s why this installation method customers need to print a support frame. In the future we may redesign a back cover according to customers’ needs. But that still depends on market feedback. In the front of the PLA parts on the enclosure
    2. For the PLA parts on the enclosure:
When printing PLA the fully-closed machine would always have a plug. The PLA height part will help with the heat dissipation. Not only that, without the parts, the enclosure glass will be crashed when the toolhead moves to the max height of the printer.
Also, the HDMI screen can be installed on this part for a closer look.
    3. For the cable chain:
We have made some changes on the chain. One parts on drag chains now needs to be reprinted. I will send the stl to you!
    4. For your injection mold suggestion, we still need comprehensive evaluation. But we will make sure it on records to see if it can happen in the future. Thank you so much for your thoughts on it!
Good news is the length of the cable chain has been fixed for a while. The machine in later batches no longer has this problem, and printing parts is only a measure for the users who first received the machine.
I’m so sorry that we didn’t keep you updated with this change.
And I totally agree with you that the accessories page should include more information about the products&instruction of how to better update them. We really should have done it earlier. After hearing from you I immediately feedback to the team and they are already processing it. It may take some time to edit and I’m not sure if it will be uploaded before your video. But if any news I will let you know!
And according to the team, this internal part will not be easily worn out, and the knobs and magnet holder is fixed with screws, therefore currently the part we ship out is still PLA. But of course, you can share your thoughts to the audience. If users want to print it in PETG or other filaments, we’d be happy to provide the stl to let people get to choose.
In addition, the holder of the screen&enclosure is already under test and discussion. We do attach great importance of improving customers’ experience when they choose our products. And in the future we will keep trying our best to make sure this idea reflected in our products and services.
Thank you so much for all of thoughts&feeling you shared above. Thank you for clarifying the confusion to me so that we can fix them. If there are any update on what you bring up I will let you know!

Honestly the screen is one place where I wouldn't mind a 3D print as long as it's made using a well tuned printer. It's not structural, it's not going to be exposed to high heat, and I'm not a big fan of the snobbery over injection molded parts. The same piece on my Mk4 is also 3D printed, but you can barely tell by looking at it.

    • @ModBotArmy
      @ModBotArmy  Місяць тому +4

I think you misunderstand. I am not against a printed screen holder. On a mk4 it’s expected it’s part of the prusa way. The SV08 is all aluminum and injection molded. At the very least it’s about setting proper expectations. If they are gonna print it then say it on the product page. That way the person ordering is aware of what they are getting. If the sv08 used a bunch of printed parts then it wouldn’t even be a thing.

The decision to make the printed parts out of PLA is also a bit confusing - even PETG is a much better material, and is the same price as PLA. Prusa makes their machines in PETG, although they are starting to add more PC-CF in more recent revisions.

Honestly there is no reason to consider the SOVOL replacement screen. The BTT is cheaper and better and it works like a boss. I couldn't get my SV-08 to connect to my WiFi until Reddit suggested I install the BTT which I'd already bought, so I did and was able to immediately connect. This isn't like the P1 series from Bambu where you can ignore the crappy screen. I have yet to install my enclosure.

You can use FFC HDMI cables (about 50cm) to connect the display. Theese cables are very flat, you can fiddle them between the HDM port and the case, back into the case. There is an stl on printables for the BTT HDMI screen v1.2 without openings on the side for the cable, but routed from the inside of the printer.
There is one free USB-Port inside the printer. So an USB to USB-C cable can be connected there. I recomend an angled USB-C connector.
As FFC-cables are easaly damaged, I recommend to print a smal cover for the connector, avoiding to accidentally damaging it.

The build height issue with the enclosure is probably inherited from the voron design its based. For standard size builds you miss about 50mm in z compared to xy, depending on how much you want to scratch the top lid. The sovop enclosure is at least glass, so the tube wont scratch it nearly, if at all, as quickly as the acrylic/polycarbonate panels

In a sense, it's funny to complain having 3D printed parts in customization kit... They could send only hardware and have you print the rest. Yes, from your choice of material, limited to PLA/PETG without the enclosure ;)
I wonder, how expensive those plastic parts were, if they were injection molded. It makes no sense to tool injection molds before knowing the kits will sell to cover the cost + delay for tooling and injection. Start with 3D printed parts, evaluate based on demand.

I highly recommend staying away from Nadirs mods. I am not saying his mods are bad, they are much better than I could do, but there is also FAR better out there. From the Bigtreetech screen to the riser and everything else in between including his unofficial enclosure, there is something else better out there! He just happens to have made a name in the sv08 modding community early on, and now every one keeps recommend his work. Again, none of it is bad, and its better than I could do! Take the screen for example, the one that Mommel made mostly hides the wires. Yes you have to still plug them into the sv08 on the side, but they run though the electronics bay to get there and you dont have a rats nest of cables hanging out the front. Nadirs enclosure you have to drill holes into the frame to have a working door, there is a half dozen other enclosures that mount the doors the same as the stock and dosnt require you to put holes in your sv08. Then again Nadirs seems to like putting new holes into his sv08, you have to add holes to use his screen mod too.

I had initially ordered the HDMI Touch, but then canceled it. I think that was a good decision. I thought the enclosure was too expensive from the outset. Since I don't print ABS or ASA yet, and won't be printing in the foreseeable future, I don't need a heated build chamber. However, I do need a draft shield for large prints in PETG or PLA. That's why I simply stuck insulating foil around the printer. It works wonderfully. In contrast to the open printer, I no longer have any warping.

PLA is fine for the SV08 parts. It's only a partially sealed enclosure so apparently only gets to around 50 degrees C internally. I bought a Big Tree Tech 7 inch screen and mounted it in a PLA printed enclosure that can be mounted anywhere. I'm going to bolt it to the top hat, which I also printed out of PLA. I'm just about to fit everything tomorrow and the first job is the cable chain so it's good to know Sovol have already modified those parts. I had read that the original parts would work if you remove two links from the chain and had been expecting to need to do that.
I'm very pleased with my SV08 so far. I have come across a couple of issues but they are fixable. The first issue is the auto filament change operation doesn't work very well. When unloading filament it always seems to leave some molten filament inside, which quickly solidifies and prevents loading of the new filament. I've found the answer is to remove the PTFE filament guide tube and to clear the pathway through the extruder from the top while it's hot using the cleaning wire provided with the original printer kit. The new filament can be then loaded easily. The second issue is the filament spool spindle is poorly positioned and by using bearings the spindle is so free spinning that the filament on a new spool can unwind leading to an excess of unwind filament that could easily jam if left unattended. So far, I've got around the problem by mounting the filament spool on the Ender 3 sitting next to the Sovol. The spindle on that doesn't have bearings so the filament is kept under the right amount of tension. I had some 4mm PTFE tubing delivered from Amazon earlier and am planning to run the filament from the spool through a closely aligned length of that to a simple clip on bracket mounted on the sensor where it enters the machine. I got the idea from my 7 year old Flashforge Creator Pro, which uses that method to route the filament from the spools mounted on the back of the machine and has always proved to be 100% reliable. If the spindle still runs too freely, I'll just have to redesign the spindle for a solid one that has no bearings. That's always worked fine on all my older machines but of course they were feeding filament more slowly.
