Thailand's Chinese community was created more than 250 years ago when King Rama I built the Grand Palace and relocated the capital to the other side of Chao Phraya opposite Wat Arun on the land formerly occupied by Chinese immigrants. They were then relocated to the outskirt of the Old City at the present China Town on Yaowarat Road. Siam then was known as Venice of the East as canals and Chao Phraya River were the main transport routes. The first road was constructed in the reign of King Rama IV named Charoen Krung Rd and later Yaowarat Road was constructed to link up with Charoen Krung as well in the reign of King Rama V. Yaowarat Road was the first commercial hub of Siam with the first modern buildings built along this road. Originally Yaowarat Rd was two-way traffic but it became one-way Road about 60 years ago. China Town was the center of rice trade in those days as there was/is nearby Chao Phraya pier bringing rice from provinces into Bangkok. It is no longer the center of rice trade as road/rail transport is highly developed over the years. For at least 60 years, China Town is the center of gold trading. There are about a dozen gold shops on Yaowarat Rd selling bullions and gold ornaments. Daily gold price quote is prescribed by Gold Trade Association in China Town. For the last decade, Thailand China Town, the largest China Town in the world, is the place to go at night for delicious food/drink. It is arguably the largest open night market in the world. It is estimated that about 10-20% Thai people are of Chinese descents.
Oh man thanks so much for this I actually googled for some of this information but the articles were really dry n long this is quite interestingly put! I can’t differentiate between most Thai ppl n chinese they all look similar!
@coolneighbours. Oriental Asian features are NOT weirdos, please look in the mirror. As the saying goes 'if u have nothing good to say at all, then say nothing at all:'. In other words, keep the gob shut.
@@v247videos Nah, I think some of our features does look like them since both Chinese and Thai are asian. Don’t go around call people a weirdo just because they have different opinion. That’s not very nice 😊
@@abudabe she took on a white last name and think she's white
@@abudabe she had to google and said they all look alike..she forgot to look in the mirror

Thanks jean great to see your still eating well 🎉😅
hey Ronald! good of u to stop by! yeah haha we never stop stuffing our faces lol
Hi Jean! This is my old ground haha. My auntie used to have a shop right in Bangkok's Chinatown, and my good friend's family runs a restaurant in that area too, and yes, Yaowarat is a food heaven of Bangkok. I haven't had Ba Bin for ages!
Ooh wow u have so many connections there! The food was so good have u tried the Ann Guay tiew kua gai before then? This was so good! I cd hv it again right now!! 😂
@@JeanVoronkova I've had Guay tiew kua gai before but not at this particular place you went to. It looks really good so I'll have to check it out when I go to Thailand next time. There's also this iconic Thai 'khao gaeng' style hawker in Chinatown (Khao Gaeng means rice and curry, but basically it's like Padang style in Bali where they have a lot of dishes prepared and you just choose whatever dishes you want over rice. They call it 'Musical Chairs Khao Gaeng' because they just have plastic chairs and no tables and you just have to spot one quickly that isn't taken to eat in 🤣
Welcome to Thailand.
Super tolles Video !TOP
awesome thanks!!
You look amazing, because you are a small person but can eat many foods. Awesome.
😊 thank you haha but to be honest now we're back in Bali and on intermittent fasting and gym sessions again haha

Wow👍👍👍👍👍
🤗 hi Lily!
Yummy ❤
So good! Teochew inspired food culture yay!
I like This place , first in Thailand 1988.
Retired 4 You.
It was a good idea to taste the foods at Chinatown at daytime. Because it was so crowded at night and more pricey. Another food that you should try at Chinatown is oyster omelet at Bai Mong Hoi Thod.
Oooh I heard that name too!!
But we didn’t manage to drop by this time around!
welcome to Thailand
JAI GREATER NEPAL AND IM FROM NEPAL.I LIKE BANGKOK VERY MUCH.
Wishing you a happy Easter
Happy Easter to you too Sean!
Seafood Tom Yam noodles for sure!
They say to eat at Jeh O Chula (the Michelin guide Mama Tom Yum place) u gotta go there n start queuing from around 3-4pm!! 😅
Thailand food is soo gewdd 😍
geeeeewwwwddd indeedy!
Good video.

Chinese people dimana2 sama ...jiwa pedagang semua ...salut...👍
welcome to thailandของกินน่าอร่อยทั้งนั้น
thank you! Thai people were so sweet!
I like Bangkok Chinatown
yummy adventures abound!
I’m coming out there, Jean. Show me love 💕 you’re my favorite!
I love spending my time in China Town in KL as well. They have an amazing tea shop on outskirts of the area.
In Thailand I’ve spent time in Bangkok at Con San Road (back packer area), a couple different trips and then went to north east part of Thailand where they grow silk worms and make amazing silk fabrics.
oooh u n V can be best friends - yes he also bought a lot of kungfu tea in Chinatown on this trip - Da Hong Pao, Tie Guan Yin, his fav Pu er cakes... I'm the chino but he's the chinese tea drinker lol .... Khao San Road is so upmarket like these days i coudln't believe my eyes... similar to the vibe in SG's Holland Village!
will be in BKK mid of the month. will go to yaowarat and try these too, thanks Jean & Vitaly :-)
Oh fab ure gonna have such a great time! Go hungry!! 😂
13th-15th is Songkran day hope you join this Festval.
Have a nice trip 🇹🇭👍🏻😉
🍹luv my friends💖💗
thanks!
Jean was looking so good in her earlier youtube video, maybe too much sun and sea at bali.
Doctor Jean, I'm glad you enjoyed Bangkok's Chinatown... For your information, Bangkok is pretty much Taechew Chinese culture... Most of Thailand is Taechew... Southern Thailand is Hokkian, and there are sprinkling of Cantonese, Hainanese and others... Very few from Shandong, and other Northern China people in Thailand, very few... I guess they can't take the heat and humidity here... Enjoy your channel and postings... Glad you married Mr. Voronkova... FYI, next week is Orthodox Holy Week. I hope y'all can go to Church. The main Orthodox Church in Bangkok is Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church. It's the flagship of Orthodoxy in Thailand. Finally, in all Thailand major cities are Russian Orthodox churches which speaks to the large number of Russian communities in Thailand...
Unlike other Asian Nations for example, such as Vietnam which has Cantonese, TeoChew and various similar-to-Cantonese dialects mostly, Thailand has the most diverse multitude of various Chinese Dialects with more Chinese Dialects spoken than any other Asian Nation outside of China.
Welcome to Thailand
thank you!
Hi guys, great to see you having fun! My partner and I just opened a new place in Phra Nakhon and we’d love to invite you out for a meal. Enjoy all you discover. Subscribed 👍
Haha eat eat eat and eat delicious and delucious never ending doday you're full tomorrow ll hungry again.let have a good time good eat in thailand 😅
จานสุดท้าย Stir-fried Malindjo Leaves with Egg
ooh yes that was goooooood
Yummy อร่อย😋😋😋😊😊😊💙💚💞💕👏👏👏👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
The first dessert is Ga Lor Gee (胶罗钱), It's a Chinese traditional dessert, but the one you ate was a Thai-style adaptation that you need to fry the rice dough first.
Great video Jean, love all your food places. Can you tell me where your accommodation is please. Keep up the great work.🥂
Hi Lyn! yes v happy to recommend where we stayed cos it was pretty awesome for us. We were at the Quarter Hualamphong. It's not so new but for the price we got a nice pool that was great for cooling off in the arvos when outside is steaming hot - and the room was very comfortable for us and they changed sheets n towels daily it was awesome! don't take the brekkie tho just walk out and its good food galore like 10 steps away. The location of the hotel is right at a Blue line MRT (Hualamphong) and many bus stops - really good!
@@JeanVoronkova thanks Jean, keep up the great vlogs, love your work.🥂🌴
😮i am Hungry too. 😂
hehe i miss bangkok chinatown's food so much!!
Staying in Pratunam, first and last.
Going to Yawarat tomorrow morning. I hope to not miss the traditional Chinese biscuit shop selling Chinese delicacies.
Did you perhaps pronounce those foods & material's name in Teochew (Chaozhou) ? It's sound so nostalgic like I heard them from my grandpa and grandma, and I love it.
PS. I'm a Thai guy but my blood is mixed between Teochew and Hakka.
Hi hi! I was actually wondering if I got them right in Thai! But my maternal side of the family is Teochew in origin and I’ve spoken Teochew since I was a kid! That must be the slight Teochew accent u heard haha
In Thailand, its called "TaiChew"🙏
I love Thailand 🇹🇭
It was such a fun trip for us! Can’t wait to visit again!
차이나 타운은 어느 나라에나 있습니다. 그런데 나라마다 조금 달라 보입니다. It's very fun to watch your trip.
aww thank you! kamsa hamnida!
I’ve been to Bangkok but not Chinatown. Thank you for showing me what Bangkok’s Chinatown looks like.
cheers Denny! it's awesome we miss the food! teochew influences everywhere!
@@JeanVoronkova I am a teochew myself; Chinese Indonesian who is currently living in Bali.
Hi Jean, awesome food tour. Since you chose to stay at Chinatown, can you share the place where you stayed?
Yes of course! We stayed at the Quarter Hualamphong! Wd def recommend! It’s not new but for the price it’s location is very stellar, it had a great pool we chilled in the arvos when we escaped the heat outside, it’s near the blue line mrt n many bus stops but quiet n safe area n at night outside was many yummy street food stalls!!!
@@JeanVoronkova Thanks
How to reach China Town by sky train from Ratchathevi. Which station to alight? How to proceed further?
Hi Jean, great video ❤, bkk Chinatown street food open 7days? Or only weekend ? Thanks desr
everytday morning till 9ish 10 i thnk!
@@JeanVoronkova thank you 👍
What is the perfect time to visit this market?
Hello, are there hotels within walking distance Yaowarat? Where did you stay?
I'm taking notes from this travel tip video! 📝 Btw, have you heard about the new Nomadlane V4 Bento Bag? It seems like a must-have for adventurers like you! 🌏🌴
I think I need extra 2 more stomachs when I go to this place 🤩😋😄
ooh that'll be useful. Like the Japanese have "betsubara" (separate bag) for desserts lol
Thanks you so much 🥰🥰 From Thai Barrister-at-law56
love that you liked the video!
Wondering if they grow their own medicinal mushrooms like Reishi, Lions Mane, Shiitake, Mytaki and sell in tge market? Or do you have to find that elsewhere?
ooh interesting question we didn't poke this time around in the TCM shops but we're planning to go again! Reishi might be a good buy if yes
Is there any big difference between BKK China town & Singapore traiditional market ? Btw, I saw like 5 rows tattoo in your arms , Do u believe something like this ?
"Ha-Taew" yantra tattoo or "Five Rows" in direct translation into English on your left arm really make me interested in how you got it. It is really Thai thing.😊
hi hi... I love my sakyant tattoo i got it done in Hua Hin over 12 years ago :) I love Buddhism and admire the philosphy and principles
