  • I’m on the look out for the best drugstore eyeshadow primers! Today I’ll be testing four of the highest rated drugstore eyeshadow primers and ranking them from worst to best based on my experience and preferences. Keep in mind that everyone likes something a little different. I have sensitive oily lids but dry patches and flaking near my brow bone. Let’s see how these eyeshadow primers do on my picky lids.

    This video definitely helped me out. I’m new to the makeup world and I didn’t know what Primer was. I spent 19 years of no makeup and just natural look. But I’m an anime artist and the more I looked at makeup and how people do different styles of makeup I found it a lot like art. So I’m getting the cover girl primer because I’ve seen so many people have good results with the cover girl primer. So thank you very much for making this video! It helped me out a great deal. Found this video in my search for a good, yet affordable primer, because i’m an eyeshadow newb, and i’d prefer to get a bit better at it before I start getting into the more expensive products, and this was honestly the perfect video for me! I have been struggling with both pigmentation and staying power, but it’s honestly daunting picking out a primer when there are so many options and you’re trying to stay on a budget, so I really appreciate how in depth this video is! So glad I found this channel! 💕 (Ps: you’re so pretty, and your eyebrows are honestly perfect 😍)

    I used to use the NYX primer a lot since I tend to gravitate towards waterproof products, and I've found that not setting it with a shadow helps the opacity of your colors better. When applying that primer, let it sit for 5 minutes or so before applying your actual eyeshadow look, and your shadows should last much longer with less fading. All in all, Milani has become my grail when it comes to eyeshadow primer. I work 2 jobs and so I can be out for over 12 hours or have makeup on for over 12 hours, but my eyeshadow always looks like I've just applied it with the Milani one. I also like how I don't have to do anything special with that primer to make it work, I can just apply the shadows immediately after application.

    • @slashedbeauty
      @slashedbeauty  3 роки тому +4

      Interesting!! I'll try that out next time so I can still get use out of it. Yes, the Milani one rocks and I agree-- I like products to work without too many tricks or secrets 😙

    Thank you for this! I like elf for really dramatic looks, but it takes too much time to properly handle and apply every day, and i need primer under my wing, and do not want to have to deal with white blotches. It does create a beautiful base for super pigmented or sparkly looks, but my usual is a pale shimmer with matte brown shadowing, I dont need a bright white base for that! I am bummed they got rid of the skin tinted primers, but I am hoping the covergirl will be my every day go-to.

    Very oily hooded eyelids here, the Wet'n'wild primer is the most dry and works great, especially for summer. Recently I tried the Rimmel primer after watching an older primer comparison video by Pruelaroo. It's looking good for winter so far, will have to see how it holds up to summer sweat.. 💦 🤓

    I used to wear eye primers but stopped & have just been using concealer. I have however just decided to go back to primer. I had seen the proof it one online & was interested. Thought waterproof might be good? But Milani was a top choice. One more tho I've been hearing raves on is the Revlon one. A few makeup artists I follow love that one. I was also debating the putty so I'm glad I saw this. I'd bought a mini of the Urban decay one & tbh an highly disappointed. It really feels so dry like it's practically empty? Returning it today & was wondering what to replace it with? Looking like the Milani. (which I've also heard tons of raves about). Tyvm ❤️

    something I noticed about the elf putty primer is that it works 1000x better if you scoop out the product with the back of your brush or a mini spatula (so that you get product from under the top layer that hasn't dried out), then melt it by rubbing it in between your thumb and forefinger a LOT. It still dries quick but it becomes a really nice, creamy and blendable consistency. I also have to make sure I wash all the product off my fingers before applying it to the other eye, as mixing any dried up product on the eye makes it crack and look awful. Overall it's probably not the best product out there but experimenting and learning how to apply it in the best way will really help!

    I used the Milani primer for years but then my eyelids developed an allergy to it, I noticed it having a new minerally feel to it but am not sure if they changed the formula recently. I bought it again after a year of not using it and it's still irritating my eyelids. I'm definitely going to try the CoverGirl one now.

    I sometimes get eczema on one eyelid. After about two days of using CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, it usually clears up completely. Occasionally it requires a third day of application. I don't have a problem with eczema anywhere else, so I think I'm sensitive to an ingredient in some eye shadows.

    The only primer I've tried so far is the covergirl one and I don't like it. Even when I set it I find it makes the shadows SO hard to blend and it makes my eyelids feel super dry to the point is uncomfortable and it gives me a weird texture! I don't know if all eye primers work like this. I'm new to makeup and I'm still practicing blending but honestly it's easier to blend without primers (but the eyeshadow last longer with primer ugh...) am I doing something wrong? Can my eyelids be dry even if my face is oily?

    • @slashedbeauty
      @slashedbeauty  3 роки тому

      interesting. You may be putting too much on, I really just swipe a bit and spread it very thinly with my finger, then set with powder. Otherwise the NYX one may be good for you since it has more of a serumy consistency. Yes your eyelids can be drier with your face oily, just like how mine get dry!

    Oops, I just got the beige & black elf puttys in the mail yesterday lol. I have heard a lot of raves on it, and saw some other vids with mixed results. I will give them a try still, they were cheap enough. I'm in the market for a primer, or maybe the elf foundation I was using is just as good? Oily lids, shadow melts off if I don't at least use setting spray (so far I like nyx matte). I got the Milani primer a few weeks ago as a freebie with my order from them, used it once, & liked it. I need to test them on me & see how they compare to no primer & each other I guess.

      @@slashedbeauty So far, yesterday I tried the elf putty (rose) and i think it worked well for me. I used the same shadow the a few days ago with no primer (concrete minerals loose pigment, which is brand new for me also 1st time using it) and in 4 hours it was smudgy from my oily lids.
      Yesterday used elf putty primer & it did not crease all day.
      Today I have same brand shadow with elf putty on 1 eye & Milani on the other. 4 hours in no creasing or signs of oil coming through.
      Not sure if these affect it but I applied some with Igolot & also various setting sprays (NYX, elf, hard candy) over top because fallout really irritates my eyes & I don't trust any primer to hold it all on.
      I also saw another vid saying not to use too much elf putty, very little is needed.
      I'm going to keep trying out the elf putty.

If you think these won't work because they're cheap, you're all wrong :) I would suggest applying the primer and then setting it with a shadow close to your skin tone... even a setting powder is fine. Then go in with your shadow. Have you tried the Milani or CG?
