Lloyd looks terribly handsome in his pic superimposed on the 911 Lone Star image. I love Lloyd!😻💞 This was a great review of Salem's Lot. I now realize I've most likely only seen the theatrical cut since I only saw it on a rented VHS from a local video store at some point in the 1990's. Gonna have to find the original! I did enjoy the version I saw, but it's been quite awhile - why not refresh my memory and see the parts I missed the first time around? Thanks for making such an entertaining video! This made my day.🖤
The 79 Salem's Lot is arguably the best vampire movie ever made. I remember when this debuted. I was 9 years old at the time and as a horror fan, this blew my mind.
I would argue a lot of miniseries are being made today. How so? Well, in my opinion a lot of streaming show "seasons" are structured more like miniseries - a single story chopped in multiple parts - than an actual episodic tv show, where each episode is a single story with a beginning/middle/end, even if there is a ongoin storyline from episode to episode.
I think to qualify as a mini-series, it can't be over maybe 4 episodes. I think a lot of the Stephen King mini-series' were like 2-3 episodes long and tended to be 90 minutes each.
12:06 I laughed a lot at this little bit. Especially the juxtaposition of the Unsolved Mysteries Update theme and the words "Sasquatch done killed that kid"!
One of the best television adaptations of a Stephen King novel and James Mason was awesome. I also saw Return to Salem ' Lot with Michael Moriarty and it was pretty good. Be safe and well everyone 💗😊🤗🙏
Susan Norton later left Salem's Lot and changed her name to Holly Gennaro. She moved to NY and married a guy called John, then later divorced due to... turbulence.
Everyone keeps saying “now that you’re stuck at home it’s lots of time on your hands...” am I the only person still working as normal during this pandemic. I have t had any extra days off. I’m kind of jealous of all of you people who are “forced” to stay home .
Many are still working (I am) but we can't seek recreation or entertainment outside of our homes. Hence, even us working folk are watching more videos/TV etc.
This is what scared the crap out of me as a kid. The scene with the kid hovering outside, scratching on the window....dude. straight traumatized my 7 year old self.
"Satan's hell beast child that makes even Damien say that's a creepy f*ckin kid !" that is the all-time best line from the Cinema Snob!!!Way to go Brad!!!!
The miniseries has its own distinctive look, too bad they didn't bother to adapt the absolute glee King conveys as the vampires start to outnumber the humans, numerous character asides that are straight out of EC comics. It also doesn't help that they combined teacher Matt, Dr Jimmy and Father Callahan into one character... all whose faiths were tested against the simplicity of Mark's "Death is when the monster gets you" and found lacking... oh God, they neglected to adapt the theme of the novel. It also doesn't help they jumbled the events of the novel: Susan's death, Mark's imprisonment, Straker's death, Barlow's... everything. OK, if I had to point to one thing, it would be Barlow. His chiding Father Callahan while he killed Mark's parents is not something you can convey even with James Mason showing up out of nowhere to speak for his master. They need to remake this one, readapt the plot properly. [Remembers the Rob Lowe "thing"] They need to reremake this one. It's not that I don't like Hooper's version, it's just that I love the novel.
I don't care, no offense intended. :-) Movies often have to cut a lot of material in order to translate to the screen. Salem's Lot is still an effective tale, well written, good performances, lots of atmosphere, and some truly scary vampires. It is a great movie regardless of the deviations to the source material. I understand being a purist to source material, but I can generally separate a movie from the book unless the movie truly goes out of the way to hurt the source material. I don't think this old mini-series did that. I think it is a great example of old school film making that is far superior to what we get now, and it has helped introduce many people to Stephen King over the decades. The 2004 miniseries was closer to the book, but it was pretty bad and the vampires were laughable. We will see what this new remake offers up.
I just watched this last night after reading the book not too long ago. I understand changing certain things from the source material to fit a certain medium but it really could’ve been a lot better.
Ok at first I was thinking, "How did I miss this?!" Then looked at the date. I would've been 8, my mom never would've let me see it. I thought the Rob Lowe version was the original. Now I HAVE to find this!! 😁😁😁
Oh I saw it at the age of 9 when it originally aired over two nights, one week apart. It scared me so much. I liked it, but I also hated it because of the terror it left me in. And the terror would continue for weeks afterward, lol! Vampires were neat, but I had never been afraid of them...until Salem's Lot.
I also saw the cut-down movie version first, and didn't even know there was a longer version for years afterwards. Once I did know, I somehow kept missing it when it was rerun on TV, and had to eventually rent it on DVD when it finally came out in that format. Still one of my faves!
Recorded to Beta off TV in 1982, full 183min cut. Gold. Dad taped over it in 1986. Parental Fail. Never broadcast again on Australian FTA TV since. Network Fail. Finally found a UK VHS import in 2000; paid $50. Retail therapy. DVD released in 2002, $25. Retail fail. Still have both copies. Weighing up the bluray purchase; what the hell - here's my money, take it...
4:30= It's totally canon in my head now that Walt Disney got his start as Barlowe's day-guardian half-vampire apprentice! It explains so much about Disney! They should have included that really creepy part in the book where Straker keeps threatening to castrate young Mark, saying he's going to make him a "Satanic choirboy". Or the line "I have made sacrifice for his favor, with my left hand I bring it!" I love Stephen King's quotation of Wallace Steven's poem"The Emperor of Ice Cream" in Salem's Lot-one of the greatest and most subtle poems ever written about death.

Cynic The Hedgehog just dts and no unemployment check yet....but at least snobs doing Stephen King.....with more topical references than other reviewers
Yes thank you these white collar asshole,s
I love this whole thing as I get to work from home this entire time and LOVING it!
Gotta love James Mason. He was an odd character in Frankenstein the True Story both of which scared the crap out of me when I was young.
29:18 Loved that you kept the flub in the edit. That was great.
29:19 I love it when you leave outtakes in! 🤣🤣🤣
29:33 "We did 20 takes. And that was the best one."
“I don’t care if that is your Brother you DO NOT let that thing in your house!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Guess I'm not the only one who's been blowing through the Unsolved Mysteries episodes on Hulu.
meanwhile... Starsky is waiting in the red Ford Gran Torino on the Salem's Lot Town hall for Hutch to finish his book... He's still waiting.
You can't fool us Cinema Snob, we know it's Lloyd the Cat imitating James Mason!
Oh, Man! Lance Kerwin! 😍😍❤️❤️❤️😂 RIP Fred Willard. 😢😢😢
You referenced Rutger Hauer and yet failed to mention that he played Barlow in the Salem’s Lot Remake? Isolation has gotten to you, Snob.
Foolish boy, you can do nothing against the Hauer.
Anne Rice always saw Rutger as Lestat
@@samanthab1923 had they been quicker for getting a film made, Rutger would’ve been an excellent Lestat. The man was an incredible actor. Miss his talents everyday
Alyssa Black Right? Just turned my son on to the Hitcher! Friend of mine actually stayed in the same hotel in Australia years ago. He was there shooting The Blood of Heroes.
You must not speak of “That which must not be mentioned”!!!!
Perfect timing for lunch! Keep up the good work, Brad!
Thank you Snob! I have been waiting for this one!
"Could you not that's the houses dick." I laugh too at that joke 🤣 😂
Lloyd looks terribly handsome in his pic superimposed on the 911 Lone Star image. I love Lloyd!😻💞
This was a great review of Salem's Lot.
I figure those "4-night event" shows are basically a "cooler" way of describing a miniseries.
You never fail to entertain but this one was particularly funny. Thanks!
Brad still trapped in the closet.
Him and Doug will admit they're a couple one day 😂
Far Cry Has All The Hot Guys that, or make an overly-long miniseries
@@joelgordon7814 Just keep R. Kelly out of it. CA doesn't need another pedophilia problem.
Gotta get his butter cream action in
Ooh! Does this mean we'll eventually get to Rose Red and Storm of the Century?
I'm a little tea pot has never sound more sinister 🤣
Storm of the Century is one of the best miniseries in tv history I believe
Storm of the Century! !!!!!!
I’m sure he’ll give us what we want in the hopes we go away
vanyadolly maybe
Absolutely hilarious, Brad. Great job!
Susan Norton later left Salem's Lot and changed her name to Holly Gennaro. She moved to NY and married a guy called John, then later divorced due to... turbulence.
Thank you 🙏
Everyone keeps saying “now that you’re stuck at home it’s lots of time on your hands...” am I the only person still working as normal during this pandemic. I have t had any extra days off. I’m kind of jealous of all of you people who are “forced” to stay home .
Many are still working (I am) but we can't seek recreation or entertainment outside of our homes. Hence, even us working folk are watching more videos/TV etc.
I’m not jealous that I can still pay my bills.
I'm so happy you got to this movie, one of my fave vampire flicks. The Jaws refence
made me laugh hard lol
This is what scared the crap out of me as a kid. The scene with the kid hovering outside, scratching on the window....dude. straight traumatized my 7 year old self.
"Satan's hell beast child that makes even Damien say that's a creepy f*ckin kid !" that is the all-time best line from the Cinema Snob!!!Way to go Brad!!!!
Awesome thanks for covering this one!
Peak Snob. He thrived during the pandemic.
Bonnie Bedelia....SO hot back then!👍
Maybe even more so in Needful Things?
Loved the unsolved mystery throwback/skit
29:18: Thanks for leaving that in, Cinema Snob. This was the extra cherry on top of an already great banana split.
One thing about living in Salem's Lot I never could stomach. All the damn vampires!
Any chance of some tromaville or night of the demons reviews
I absolutely agree with you. This movie is a slap in the face to the book
I just watched this last night after reading the book not too long ago. I understand changing certain things from the source material to fit a certain medium but it really could’ve been a lot better.
@Jamie Braswell
Okay, boomer.
Agreed
Ok at first I was thinking, "How did I miss this?!" Then looked at the date. I would've been 8, my mom never would've let me see it. I thought the Rob Lowe version was the original. Now I HAVE to find this!! 😁😁😁
Oh I saw it at the age of 9 when it originally aired over two nights, one week apart. It scared me so much. I liked it, but I also hated it because of the terror it left me in. And the terror would continue for weeks afterward, lol! Vampires were neat, but I had never been afraid of them...until Salem's Lot.
You can watch it google Salem's lot free on dailymotion
"It's the 70s so you know those are real loaded weapons." 😂 🤣
I was 12 when I saw this on the air. That floating boy scared the hell out of me.
James Mason as Mr. Straker.
"I think you will enjoy Mr. Barlow. And I think that he will enjoy you."
4:30= It's totally canon in my head now that Walt Disney got his start as Barlowe's day-guardian half-vampire apprentice!
It explains so much about Disney! They should have included that really creepy part in the book where Straker keeps threatening to
castrate young Mark, saying he's going to make him a "Satanic choirboy". Or the line "I have made sacrifice for his favor, with my left hand I bring it!" I love Stephen King's quotation of Wallace Steven's poem"The Emperor of Ice Cream" in Salem's Lot-one of the greatest and most subtle poems ever written about death.
