I had to read that part a few times because I was surprised he said that, too! Haha! But I think the way the person reported it was too literal and there was that underlying humor beneath that comment :)
@@timothyramsey7010 LOL Same!!! I've been playing Buddy Holly this whole week. That's one of the things I love about doing these stories, it gives me a chance and excuse to re-listen to everything again
I enjoy and appreciate the work you do. I can tell you love what you do. As a 30+year flight instructor and a retired airline captain I'd like to gather some more information concerning the exact condition or reported weather, runway length, weight and balance of the Bonanza. The airplane in the pix is a V-Tail Bonanza. The early models such as this were nicknamed "Doctor Killers" Because of the V-tail the tail had a tendency to move or yaw left and right. That coupled with possible icing and if the weight limit is exceeded this was a recipe for disaster. This sets up a "STALL" situation. I'll reserve my opinion on the pilot but any combination of the above he should have never left, he was "Pilot in Command". Sometimes as a pilot you have to make the "Go/ No Go" decision.
Dion has a fascinating interview on UA-cam wherein he talks about being on that tour with the others. Waylon Jennings, as you know, spoke of the tour and the crash periodically throughout his career. Loved the Coroner Smilie sidenote. Mick Jagger saw Buddy Holly. I wonder if the fact that the Stones are still going after 62 years, in spite of three deaths (Brian, Charlie, and Stu) in and of itself may be Divine Musical Intervention. Great episode as always. Thanks for telling about ALL the victims.
Don McLean couldn't believe that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson lost their lives to dirty laundry. Here I am thinking of how Ritchie Valens lost his life to a coin toss. Or how Tommy Allsup's life was spared by a coin toss. 😬
My grandmother is related to Buddy Holly , she was born in Oklahoma. Unfortunately she past away a few years ago at 90. If Buddy was alive he would be 88 years old..interesting fact about Buddy is that he was part Cherokee, my grandmother was Cherokee and Choctaw. My grandmother moved from Oklahoma when she was a little girl and never knew she was a cousin to Buddy. Actually not to long ago my uncle did our genealogy and found this out. Buddy's birth name is Charles Hardin Holley. I was raised by my grandparents and remember listening to Buddy Holly records before i was even in kindergarten. I have always loved Buddy. Im now 54 years old . I have a heavy heart knowing i have a cousin that died in a plane crash at 22 years old. When my uncle messaged me to tell me that we're related to Buddy i sat there and balled my eyes out. I absolutely believe Buddy had or has a strong spirit. I've had several strange things happen after finding out im related. I did have a dream he got to come visit, it seemed very real. I told a friend about the dream she said he did visit. I said idk i need a sign..that night i had a huge cricket show up on my arm when i was sitting on my couch. Ive thought about Buddy everyday since finding out. Allot of people act like musicians, famous people ,actors are just born under a rock or something and have no living relatives. Well, they do have relatives such as myself. Im.just a regular 54 year old women with 2 cats and a dog , I dont have much. Buddy has been gone 65 years , his birthday is September 7th. He past before i was even born..His death absolutely does affect me. I believe he's in heaven with the Lord , i also believe he sends messages. Buddys niece Sherry is still alive and his wife Maria is 91.
Thank you so much for this interesting video with some details that aren’t discussed in other sources. However, some of the discussions that are depicted in the video as occurring plane side actually happened at the Surf Ballroom. This includes the conversation between Big Bopper and Waylon Jennings as well as the coin flip between Alsup and Valens. In addition, the weather forecast for the overnight period deteriorated and called for blizzard conditions. The updated weather was never communicated to the pilot. That meant the flight which was supposed to be VFR was actually IMC, for which the pilot had not completed training. In addition, the instruments on which the pilot had trained were different than those on the accident aircraft. I’ve researched the incident extensively and never saw any evidence that icing was involved. It’s more likely that the accident was due to spatial disorientation by the pilot from unexpected entry into IMC conditions, coupled with unfamiliarity with the Sperry artificial horizon gyro in the Beechcraft.
Well done! Also worth noting, there would be no Beatles without Buddy Holley’s Crickets (or at least not the name, “Beatles”). In a candid moment, John Lennon explained that he liked the sound of the Crickets so much, he brainstormed other names of insects, and came up with “Beetles” spelled with an “a” to give it a double meaning, like Crickets is both the insect and the game of crickets…

An ill-advised plane trip that went bad had nothing to do with a loss of innocence. Let's not get nutty with our theories. The loss of innocence in this country had more to do with the assassination of JFK and the Vietnam war. Let's keep this video within music history and not try to inflate it to anything else.
Loved the video although The Big Bopper was actually 28 😊. Thank you for taking the time to remember these young men. 🙏
If I was in the studio and I knew Buddy Holly spirit was there I’d keep right on playing his songs and try to channel his music

I ain’t afraid of no ghost lol

Enjoyed as always! 🎼🎸🎤🎶
Thank you so much!! I’ve been wanting to do this story for a while ❤️
Thank you 😂 your story about the plane crash of buddy holly Ritchie vallens and the big bopper they were some of my favorites back then
Those 3 guys as short as their careers were, influenced so many future rock and roll stars. They were true pioneers of modern music.
Thank you for sharing this profound moment in time and answering questions that many didn't even know they had.

You mean the one where he was the one that actually flipped the coin? I love Dion, but he was so wrong trying to re-write history
When Tommy got his wallet back,it gave me goose bumps from the top of my head to the tips of my toes!
to quote Buddy _"it doesn't matter any more"_

In interviews Waylon discussed 10 years of therapy before he could stop blaming himself

A fantastic Show One corection The Bopper was 28 at the time Dis not know Don saw him in person and the story about Tommy's walut Fantastic
JP Richardson was 28, not 24
What La Bamba documentary are you talking about? I've tried to find it but all I find are results for the Biopic.

Look into what recording studios were doing with contracts,,, ya shall be awe struck 😮😮😮

2:43 Elvis had absolutely nothing to do with the 1987 biopic, La Bamba. It is a feauture film, not a documentary. Major flaw in this presentation
Full of factual mistakes, happening 1st Feb and not 3rd. Bopper was 28 not 24... The list goes on
La Bamba was a biopic, not a documentary. There's a difference.
The Big Bopper was 28 years old when he died, not 24
