  • This is the wood stove my grandfather used to heat the basement when he was making axe handles. I'm not quite sure of the age. There is a 1918 on the bottom of the stove. If it is over 100 years old, it works fine. I use it in my wood shop. The winter makes it too cold to work comfortably in the shop. Now it affords me the opportunity to work in the shop year round. I cut wood on my property, so it's free heat. Can't beat that. I can even burn my wood scraps.

Hey John! Your channel popped up in my feed this morning, so I thought it would be fun to check it out. I've heated several shops and outbuildings over the years without insulation at first or at all and the wood stove is the way to go if you don't feel like kicking on a torpedo heater. I wouldn't worry too much about anything catching fire, that shop looks like you keep it clean and keep it attended during a burn cycle. Anyway, thanks for sharing this vintage stove - it is pretty neat that you're keeping it alive instead of just replacing it!

Looks like you need to insulate the walls to keep it warm

Dust plus fire= no more shop.
    Call your insurance company.

Yes it could be a problem. I don’t leave the fire unattended. Plus, I have three fire extinguishers throughout the shop.

I'm thinking, insulation in the walls could seriously improve your indoor temperature situation, especially with use of your wood stove..
    Just saying.
