MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

No hurries, no worries, life is good, and we're cooking with wood! Lol
Love your spirit Boss!
I'm 21 and I know how to cook more then most of my friends that are around my age. But as soon as I turned ten I was expected to help on the kitchen and by thirteen I was expected to be able make dinner on my own. I can even make bread from scratch.
Sounds like you have good parents. Well done.
OK...now you've got me thinking....the little barn needs to become not only a place for the tractor to live during really nasty weather but maybe even have a "summer kitchen" with a wood stove....oofta!
Sherry, great idea!
Lasagna looked wonderful. Great info, thank you. It is such a pleasure to watch a happy person making videos.
Thank you for saying so.
I know a thing or two about a thing or two, but every time I watch one of your videos I learn something. Pioneer cooking with a microwave....now that's funny
+Thomas Ryan I saw no pioneering going on in that "pioneer Kitchen" :-/
Just one thing Pioneer Woman is that you aren't. She's a lot prettier! Haha.
Loved this video.
Great chat about the ‘pioneer’ woman. Too funny 😁
Holy hell Boss, your philosophies speak to me on so many different levels, i don't even know where to begin...the only word that is screaming to be let out is.. perfection, and please know that i don't throw that word around loosely. Thank you my friend, for doing what you do, and showing what you know.
Wow buddy! Not even sure how to respond to that. All I can say is thank you for the great response. I really appreciate the comments.
Great video wish I was there !
Canadian Outdoorzman If you were here we could have a beer.
thebossoftheswamp You have a great spot Bro and if I was there a beer wouldn't do haa !
Best comment.
I feel like I have found my people.
The ONLY video anyone will EVER need about doing anything and everything on a wood cookstove. No complaints. Best part was the last two words of the video!
Watching your cooking videos hungry isn't advised, most turn out so good.
It’s great to have found your Chanel. Nothing better than finding men like you that actually know what they are doing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Nice stove.
Thank you kindly.
I am on a marathon boss of the swamp channel watch. Watched for years but I"m on a marathon. Thanks for watching.
Its good to finally see a good explanation for dummies
Never disappointed when you post videos, and again you delivered a great one. Really looking forward to the cast iron videos.
Thanks
I'm finding a lot of folks interested in the cast iron. Guess I'll have to work on that. Thanks for commenting.
I will never understand why so many of us became so reliant on "the grid." It's tough to hear stories about some control against things like the wood fire. It just makes more sense to provide for oneself - especially when it comes down to the basics of survival. We put way to much responsibility of others. I can tell you that I've relaxed a bit too much. I don't believe this is a novelty at all, but rather a necessity to community and mostly self. The tough part is to get something back that you've let go. The great thing is,, it's never really gone, you just have to relearn it while its easier, instead of crash-learning it when its really needed. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and sharing your lifestyle. It's not only inspirational, it's the way to a person's freedom.
Words well spoken Kirk. Well said for sure.
The population numbers now would burn every tree in the country within 10 years.
This guy is full on wisdom. What he said in this video is FACTS of life (sadly) 8 yrs after he made this video.
a man that cooks.....a rare situation!
I agree 💯 with you to be self sufficient which I am aiming for in my very near future. I LOVE THOSE STOVES!!!!!
I just got one am planing using soon thanks for video men !
Growing up in a house built in 1760 with four fire places and a bee hive oven we heated with wood and had a wood cook stove in the kitchen , we use to boil down maple syrup in the spring , just used it to heat with Mom never cooked on it , good memories
food taste just so much better when it is cooked on a wood stove, my grand mother cooked, baked, did her canning, heated up the bath water all on her stove I cut kindlin for it and hauled in the water for her daily one of my chores that had to be done and was the food ever so great. thanks for your video very good
I agree with you about people now days not knowing how to cook or require all sorts of gadgets. I was raised in South Louisiana and my Grandfather taught all the grandkids how to cook on a wood cook stove he had 'liberated from a cook car when he worked as an engineer.
He sounds like a good man.
@@thebossoftheswamp now the rest of the story... he would have all the grandkids chop wood for the stove which was good for us we got to use an axe and do things our parents often would say no too... a few years backs one of my uncles told me that in the shed behind where the stove was kept, he had a still and was using the wood to make shine....lol.. he did teach us to repair things and not just throw it away, I'm teaching my grandkids to do the same thing.
Woodstoves, cast iron pots and pans, cooking in or on the wood stove reminds me of my grand parents and the smell of her cooking, thank you.... another great video!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for saying so.
All the best to you.
Another good one. Thanks for sharing.
thank you and since I email you last I've been doing a lot of research on the history behind it and they're in pretty good condition so I will do the restoration like you do and see what I have left. enjoy your day
This is really good information. Thanks!
Thanks for the info, Great stuff
MR SWAMP BOSS WHEN YOU MADE THESE VIDEO,S AND IN TIME TO COME THAT WE WOULD LOOSE SIR FRANKIE WE ALL HAVE A HOLE IN OUR HEART IVAN FROM ILLINOIS.
AWSOME. Love the way you think. Those lasagna trays looked SO good 👍. My son knows how to cook pretty good for 26. Every human should know how to cook.
The best woodstove instructional I have seen on YT yet. Well done.
Thank you kindly.
I love these videos! They always bring back memories from a better time. Thank you !
I lived for a summer off the grid.. I used a great woodstove to cook, boil water for baths and dishes.. and to keep warm! I wanted to stay forever but in September we had to move back to town as my kids had to return to school. I so enjoyed that life,, we had fishing and wild berries and mushrooms. Oh that I could return to that life! Not only are you a great carpenter it appears your a great cook to! Have a great day!
Glad you enjoyed it Abby. Kids can grow up in the woods too ya know.
When I was a kid my dad packed us up and took us out of the city every chance he got. I asked him if we could just live at the camp and he always had an excuse why we couldn't. I wish he would have just let us grow up there. Life was always so much simpler at the camp and that's why I went to the woods as soon as I could. ... and stayed there. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Fabulous J.C. Take it from a long time professional broadcaster, you're a natural. I predict you will have your own show on TV before long. You have great, natural talent! Nelson
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I don't think I would allow myself to have a TV show because as soon as I "have to" do something... I no longer enjoy it. Making them for Utube is a lot of fun though. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great info, that type of stove is definitely on my list of things to invest in!

This video is amazing. Thank you so much! My boyfriend and I are thinking about going off the grid, and we are starting to transition, but I wasn't sure if a wood cooking stove would be a good choice, but now I know for sure I will get one!

There's nothing better then sauce simmering on the wood stove. It's 48 here today and we're cooking on wood!

Glad you enjoyed it and found it beneficial. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent video. I'm all about wood-cook stoves. Thank you Sir.
Thanks Jeff. I couldn't live without a wood cooker in my home.
My grandma had a stove with the different circle in it. I was surprised I remember that from 60 years ago.
Really enjoyed this and got some good information from it thanks for sharing. Mike
This channel led me to Obadiah's Woodstoves. I have been bugging my husband for a Pioneer Princess for a while, but after watching the walk through of the Kitchen Queen, I changed my mind. In comparison, it blew the princess out of the water, especially on maintenance.
Don't forget Obadaih's will give you a discount if you mention my channel sent you. Cheers :-)
This is a necessity. I'm obsessed.
That’s cool!
Hi Bos, indeed a very nice stove and what you say is absolutely correct. Wise words not to be completely dependent on electricity and it is economical too. Thank you for the great video! Kind regards from the Netherlands
Very cool cabin, I would live there forever and it would be like heaven!
It's going on the market when the cabin's done.
Very glad I found this Chanel 🙌☺👍👍👍
Thank you Buster and please share it with others that may enjoy it also.
great show
+Ruby Otalor Thank you.
I had an old blue buck wood cook stove.... I love your stove - was surprised that it held that many pans to bake.... I agree with you on the wood box not being very large on the old antique stove.
Great Vid as always Boss..
Always a pleasure and thanks for great tasteful videos! And Frankie keep being the bossdog! Thanks J.C. Many cheers,.... Pete.
Thanks Pete. Hey did you get my message about the book I have with your name in it?
Thank you
J C I'm buying a new small wood heater today for a backup and fuel saver on real cold night's and saving for a new wood cook stove like your's, Because I remember my grandma 's food on the wood stove when I was a kid, and with free wood on my land it's just good backwood's logic. Thank's For The memories Boss.
I have a new kitchen queen on order and found a better place to buy them from than I mentioned before. I'll be talking about this in a video when my new stove arrives.
Another great video boss.
Thank you Mike
Been watchin' ya for a while but haven't left much for comments. Just wanted to thank you for what you do. I'm a big hunter and fisherman and I am in a constant state learning.
Thank you Andrew. I appreciate you taking the tie to comment.
That Kitchen Queen is a Beauty! And as always I learned a lot. Thanks for the Video Boss...
The KQ is a dandy for sure but I wish it was ornate like my antique Crawford. You'll be seeing that appear again when I get to work on my NH cabin. The Utubers haven't seen that place yet.
Cool !
Years ago I had a Kalamazoo six whole stove warmer on top oven of course it took me forever to get used to it but I finally did to me there was nothing better to cook on Thanks again
That was fun to watch! Well done... perfect amount of info and demonstration. I'm so inspired to try cooking on a wood stove now! (love your dog)
