@@epicremarc I know! The sinking center goes to a room under the stage that has a small set of stairs to go back to behind the stage so they can re-enter on the top!
I didn't know about the set moving or the swinging lights so when I saw the show I shrieked and gasped from excitement. One of the most beautiful pieces of theatre and art in general I have ever seen. It deserves all the hype and more as well as all the Tony awards
sebbohnivlac I am here so I can compare the two fairly. IMO, Beetlejuice wins. They too have moving sets, handmade custom designed props, and the entire main house set is completely redesigned 3 times.
@@milomakesmusiccovers Yeah, but that's also why it was so hard to find a stage for it. Though if it is coming back like they say I have to go see it this time.
"we hope you come see it" Girl, i owe this Musical so much (nailed an Audition when singing it) and yet my broke Austrian soul will have to wait for it to be revived. One day, when i got more money....
I always wondered how the swinging lamps actually stayed in place during Wait For Me when the actors weren't holding them, it never occurred to me that they were actually hanging from the ceiling. The amount of detail gone into this show is incredible!! I hope it wins something from the Tony's!!! Go Rachels!
they all keep talking about this transformative moment when the set separates, but then they barely ever show it. i feel like i am being so meanly taunted!
In some ways, I'm sorry you even know about the way the set moves/changes. I saw it in August having seen the Tonys performance and knowing the basic outline of the story. I was blown away by the totality of the show. As I've gotten older, I find I tend to appreciate a show more if I walk in knowing little about what is going to happen. If I know too much I find I'm anticipating what's next instead of enjoying what's in front of me. YMMV.
I watched this from the second to last row in the theater (like wayyyyy up in the balcony) and I was thinking about how this show really would be a completely different show from a different seat with all the amazing visual effects.
I sincerely hope I get to watch this musical some day. There are so many musicals I wanna see, but Hadestown is the one that I feel like I absolutely should not miss
They are sooooo insanely talented. It’s really all the little details like this and their intensely creative minds that take an already amazing show above & beyond. Tony’s WHEN 🗣🗣
As a writer and director/designer, I’m absolutely DYING to see this show. This is definitely one of the most beautiful things to hit the great white way in a long time.
God I remember seeing it and just falling in love with it while waiting for the show to start and then WHEN THE ACT ENDED AND THE WALLS MOVED I JUST !!!!! This show's set is what made me want to get into theater tech.
I seen this in Cleveland on Feb 9 2023. Hands down the best show I have seen in a very lomg time. (Please dont tell BeetleJuice )lol But the stage the singing the music the story was sooooo Damn good. I want ti see it again when it comes back to Cleveland.
I didn't get a chance to see Great Comet in person. I HAVE to see those walls open. Also, THREE concentric turntables, one of which is a LIFT? Like, the set designer of Hamilton specified that they spend hours a day calibrating their revolves, I can't imagine how fast the crew has to work here
Khaila Wilcoxon said on her story that no one has been hit yet... but an audience member stood up right as the lamps came out and she had to duck out of the way!

Oh you thought we meant Hadestown tickets?
Hah! No.
This was so short. I could watch a 2 hour film about every details of the stage design and choreography and writing of this show
I just want to see how they get out from the sinking center
we need this omggggg

two Rachels SLAYING their jobs
Rachel Chavkin: directed 2 of the greatest American musicals of the last decade
Also Rachel Chavkin: "circles are pretty old"
I need a full 3 hour doc on the making of Hadestown. there's such so much history and so many details to this show!

Ok but have you seen Beetlejuice
I've seen both. I've seen Hadestown twice and Bettlejuice once. IMO, It's Hadestown hands down. YMMV.

They’re not hanging to start, the tethers from the ceiling come down during the song and the actors attach them.
@@EmmaBethx Ohh, you're right! The actors are holding them in the beginning of the number! Thank you!

Fun Fact: I nearly cry every time I watch a clip of Wait For Me and those lights swing out for the first time. It's pure magic.
THEY DIDNT EVEN TALK ABOUT HOW THE STAGE HAS THE CENTER THAT CAN BE RAISED AND LOWERED

I find it so funny that they think hanging lamps are such a special and unique prop in this production. Groundbreaking..
They actually plug them in!? cool!
Am I the only one wondering if anyone's gotten hit by one of the swinging lamps?
Khaila Wilcoxon said on her story that no one has been hit yet... but an audience member stood up right as the lamps came out and she had to duck out of the way!
Phenomenal.

“We hope you come see it”
(Me living in Ireland with no feasible way to see it, let alone on broadway) me too, da fuck
The best musical
I'd love to see it but alas that's probably never going to happen
I'm sorry i dont know anything about the story, but why are you going underground?
The story is about a man going into the underworld to bring back his dead wife.
The turn table reminds me of Hamilton! Lol
