As others have mentioned before (and after), this kinda dialogue should’ve been used throughout the trilogy (not necessarily the first installment, but definitely prior to the last installment)
First, can you say that they either bicker like an old married couple OR they bicker like siblings. Also, poor Finn. He's stuck in the middle, trying to play mediator.
I honestly dislike how they've tried to frame Poe as irresponsible and rude in 8 and 9, when he's the exact opposite. He's a smart military pilot who's comfortable with making tough calls and isn't afraid to speak up when a higher up makes a bad call or when a dumb decision is made. In TLJ, it's framed that Poe staging a mutiny against Holdo was bad, but in the end he was still right: the escape to Crait plan came THIS close to failing, and it almost did if it weren't for there miraculously being a small opening blocked only by some loose boulders, which ultimately was entirely luck. Resistance would've been all but destroyed had it not been for the coincidence of that being there. As for TROS, again he's right, Rey should be out there, helping the Resistance to secure resources, saving lives of innocents from First Order Tyranny, and saving Resistance Military personnel as she's more capable than any non-force sensitive by default, but they frame him as being a dick when he's saying it.
Actually, Holdo’s plan almost failed because Rose, Finn, and DJ found out, and DJ sold them out to the First Order. Otherwise they wouldn’t have checked for escape pods.
@@animeguy10000000 why would they check for escape pods when DJ couldn’t possibly know Holdo’s plan? Also, it’s still not Poe’s fault, as it’s entirely asinine to not tell your team what the plan is and spout “inspirational” messages. It would make sense had there been risk of a mole, but the movie makes no effort to actually make that a possibility.
@@badabing9402 DJ literally told The First Order about the pods. He overheard Finn and Rose talking about the plan. As for it being Poe’s fault, it 100% was his fault. Poe was the one who told Finn and Rose what Holdo’s plan was, which is how DJ found out about it. The reason Holdo’s didn’t want to tell Poe the plan when he first asked was because 1.) She just assumed command of the Resistance and probably didn’t have a solid plan yet. 2.) Poe was literally just demoted for not following the orders of Leia. So why should she trust that a hotshot flyboy would even listen to her plan? Poe gave her literally no reason to trust him.
@@animeguy10000000 you make a valid point about Poe being a hotshot. However, mutinies are not carried out by one person. There was an entire crew including bridge personnel, ground crew, soldiers and pilots that were unsatisfied with Holdo’s leadership. Granted she did have a fairly good plan for escape. However, she should have shared some aspects of the plan, maybe not the whole plan but at least say “hey we’re going to play a big game of three card monte and let the first order destroy an empty ship” because she refused to at the very least assuage the fears and concerns of a cornered army, which as commanding officer she has a duty to do, her plan failed. And while the idea of a mole is plausible, with the execution of the plan the mole would’ve left with the resistance and dropped a dime on them to the first order. Also because Holdo failed at being a leader she was indirectly responsible for the deaths of more personnel because of her irresponsibility. And I do consider that to be the case, the top brass is not obligated to show a detailed 50 point plan to to the rank and file. But they do need to appraise them of the situation. There’s actual real world examples of commanders in a situation similar to Holdo who let the troops know some aspects of the plan to help them be patient (George Washington and Sam Houston are good examples). Otherwise the troops have a responsibility to relieve the officer of duty. Based on what we as the audience knew from the story at the time, Poe actually followed protocol properly and performed the expected duty admirably.
at your opinion of TROS, you're right. rey should be with them. then, after helping them with poe and finn gathering information, training. Simple. just like the original trilogy,in TROJ the first action scene was saving han solo from carbonite freeze then taking out jabba. the original trio were there. here in TROS, the finn, rey, poe team, they only interacted for a short time.
They spend most of the movie in TLJ isolated, I personally think it wasnt necessarily something that worked against TLJ but it definitely had adverse effects on the characterization of Finn specifically.
this scene in isolation was... actually really good? - Poe and Rey clearly both trust and think well of each other but still challenge each other and bicker, like siblings - Poe is very concerned with BB8's safety but seems to understand that Rey did nothing to hurt him intentionally. He's not really that annoyed about that - his frustrations truly lie with Rey's passivity in the ongoing conflict. - Rey is clearly wants to understand all that went on, despite that she had to stay and train, and this frustration is bubbling to the surface as bickering anger regarding the Falcon. - Finn clearly empathises with both sides and is trying to act as peacemaker, which is an excellent character trait as someone who chose to defect from a warmongering empire. He seeks conflict resolution even among his friends - The marching away from the Falcon, the jump shots between Finn and Rey, the rotating camera - it all conveys a sense of stress and urgency that all three characters are clearly feeling. Great scene. Shame.
That's one of the many problems with the Sequels. They're carried by small moments like these as it lacked and interesting plot and story. On top of that, they had bad writing to deal with.
you're right, thrilling, interesting and funny to watch. they were much easier to watch than the original trilogy trio who just argued and talked over each other the whole time. (no disrespect to the original trilogy literally the greatest set of films ever made and the characters will never be matched)
J J and and Rian do care about Star Wars. Their version of Star Wars is just not what you wished for. That's like disliking the prequels and then saying that George didn't care about Star Wars.
@@RamielDerLinke You can like them, I liked the first two and the last one was enjoyable in some parts. But the last 2 we’re definitely not good star wars movies and the last was not a good movie in general.
@@NehiJG the scene by itself is good but it doesn’t make u feel anything while watching cuz we don’t see much of them interact. Poe and Rey (2 main characters) only meet in the end of the second movie in a trilogy. That’s messed up.
This scene highlights one of the problems with this trilogy, that Poe, Finn, and Rey were not the planned trio they should have been from the start. In fact we know that Poe was actually meant to originally die from that crash in the beginning of TFA and that this was changed at the last minute, and they had him return at the end of the film but it doesn’t change that a good chunk of the first movie doesn’t even have him in it enough to be considered a “main” character. TFA should have had Poe, Finn, and Rey together for majority of the first film’s adventure, that would have established their dynamic so that we cared about them being separated during TLJ before their reunion as a team in TROS. What the original films and the prequel films did was clearly establish a trio for our heroes and the sequels, while having interesting characters, never established a main team dynamic that should have been there, which ends up making so many things, especially in TROS, feel hollow. Finn and Rey had a strong dynamic established, and Finn and Poe also had an incredibly brilliant dynamic as well, but Poe and Rey literally had nothing and this should have been established in TFA, not stuck at the end of TLJ.
I strongly agree with you, JJ should had planned the trio before filming TFA, which is another sign that they didn´t had any stablished plan for the trilogy since the beginning, however, there´s something curious , in TPM the starting trio is Qui-gon, Obi Wan and Padmé, and since they arrive in Tatooine, Obi Wan stays in the ship, the only ones to interact with Anakin are Qui-gon and Padmé, Qui-gon dies at the end of the movie but you already have stablished 2 things: a)Obi Wan & Padmé already know eachother since the beginnig of the film, and b)Obi Wan is the one who´s going to train Anakin, which means you compensate the lack of interaction between the two in this movie by having them together before the next one. By the time of ATOC you don´t have the problem of separating Obi and Anakin BECAUSE they´ve already spent years together, so you can have Anakin and padmé to catch up. With this in mind you could argue that JJ didn´t screw it up (that much). Don´t get me wrong, i still think TFA is a lazy copycat of A New Hope, as a standalone movie works fine, but as the be continuation of 6 FILMS, you have a lot of work by tying everything together. TFA is not a perfect film (Han Solo´s death = No OT reuinon, no Chewie-Leia hug???) but it kind of works within the SW universe. The big elephant in the room obviously is TLJ, a movie that had 2 jobs: developing the trio of characters and expanding your story. What was a stupendous opportunity to knock it off the park resulted in the division of your target audience, the anihilation of all your marketing (t-shirts, toys, candies, etc) and the destruction of characters builded 2 trilogies before. Yes, Rian Johnson has talent (Looper, Knives Out), yes, he screw it big time, but i don´t think he´s the solely responsible for this shipwreck, the movie is affected by this Social Justice Warrior-agenda and the fact that it starts right after TFA, the only logic explanation is studio interference (K. Kennedy). They wanted to take advantage of TFA´s cliffhanger hype while also sending a politically correct message. Johnson´s hand on the matter was the curveballs that we had in the story. Instead of wasting time in a subplot that didn´t contributed to the story, you could have done the only 2 jobs you had. The end result was a failed sciences experiment that also took down narrative elements that could have been used in the next one (killing the main villain was a surprise to be sure , but in the end, an unwelcome one). If TFA broke a window of your house, TLJ lighted the whole place on fire. The sequel trilogy not only didn´t live up to expectations, but killed any. Still, there´s hope on the tv series. P.s. Sorry for the long rant, had to get it of my chest LOL
@@isaivazquez1584 Sorry but TLJ is the only film out of the three in this sequel trilogy to actually have a narrative theme and reason for existing. If anything, I would say this film isn't the elephant in the room, but the only thing that actually gave the sequels something interesting and compelling to stand on that if only Lucasfilm hadn't been so chicken on following through. The sad thing is, the supposed leak draft of Episode 9 by Colin Trevorrow WOULD have followed through and actually would have given us a more coherent themed story that actually ties all the films together in actually meaningful ways that build upon what TLJ directly leaves the story to be, but Lucasfilm chose safety and familiarity and hollow nostalgia instead of daring to do anything bold and actually see their vision through, leaving TROS to be a hollow mess that spoke to nothing meaningful. Lucasfilm suffered the same reactionary behavior that plagued DC for years. TLJ didn't blow up the room, TLJ's ending actually gives the foundation for TROS to build its story, they just got too scared to actually do that story. TLJ is not affected by social justice warrior stuff or political agenda, none of that is even remotely an issue given Star Wars has always been a political story and a metaphor for Lucas' own political beliefs, what affected TLJ is the decades of mandela effect over how people built up certain ideas and plots in their own heads. As for TFA, I understand why you would compare it to TPM, but I would say that the issue with TFA is that Poe isn't much of a character. In TPM, we at least have focus on Obi Wan, Anakin, and Padme, sure they are not necessarily all together, but Obi Wan is not an afterthought that disappears for most of the film. Poe is. Poe has so little character throughline in the film, in fact, he's so out of people's minds that his return is almost out of nowhere. Now if TFA had given Poe his own story focus throughout the film, then yeah I could see where the trio would have been established the way TPM was still able to do.
@@CaptainPikeachu I have to agree with you, TLJ did try to do something original, & i would´ve loved to see Colin´s episode IX. Kylo´s redemption was a very tight turn but still worked beacuse he was very unstable & with a lot of issues. My main issue with TLJ is how it treats characters, for example Luke throwing his own father´s lightsaber, there´s no problem in having a broken Logan-esque Luke, the problem is the reason behind that. Would have been more logical if they had explained that he had a family and they were all killed, but to have him trying to kill Ben because he had fear doesn´t makes sense (he went after his father to rescue him, after all he did, and yes he had fear too (that´s how Vader discovers Leia)). I don´t think there´s a Mandela effect because his story has been covered in the expanded universe, yes, people can change over the years, but there have to be good reasons to sustain that change in character. With the social justice stuff, i mean the arc of admiral Holdo, ok, Poe is not much of a character, but why to have him being lectured about something that has been already covered up (there´s a whole run of comics about him) and to have him look like a whinning kid just make look this female character strong. There are clearly other ways to do it, Mark Hamill recalled Leia´s rescue scene, where she takes over her own rescue, he called it effortlessly femenism (don´t say it, just do it). I don´t have a problem with strong female leads, it´s fresh, unique and good. The problem is how you build them, i recommend you a movie called The girl with the dragon tatto (with Rooney Mara & Daniel Craig), that´s how you build a strong female lead without making your co-star look weak. It´s sad the fact that a lot of people inverted time and effort in doing this movies and that the movies didn´t delivered as the fans hoped; still not everything was bad, we had good moments too!. I enjoy having this kind of debates with somebody that also has strong arguments, and to politely discuss about something we have in common. Greetings from Mexico brother, i hope you have a nice day!
The chemistry between the three of them really shows the wasted potential these groups of characters could have had if they had been together from the episode 7 they could have been up there with the OG trilogy trio
probably my favorite scene from the whole movie. their dynamic is so good. I'm sad that we didn't get to see more of the three of them together. I hope we get more of them somehow
I mean, we also didn't get a lot of trio action between Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme in the Prequels. Most of the time it was Anakin and Obi-Wan or Anakin and Padme.
@@aaronputhalath5551 They actually have character traits that are unique to themselves. No Luke wannabe, no han wannabe, and no.... whatever Finn is lol (so much potential with Finn that was wasted). Padme had a reason to not be around Obiwan and had him be a third wheel throughout episode 2. Episode 1 and 3, she was either romancing with Anakin or doing senator stuff. She actually had skills that were not solely pew pew or lightsaber stuff. What brought their trio friendship together was Anakin + the war in episode 1 that Obiwan and Anakin participated in. They were much stronger of a trio than Rey, Finn, and Poe.
I really wished we had gotten more scenes like this with Ray, Poe and Finn. Even if what they do is arguing, it's still character development between them.
i hate that the relationship of the trio was developed in such a chunky way. Finn had the best relationship development with both of them bc it happened early on but these two met so late and even though I absolutely loved this scene it felt a bit too early to be perceived as very friendly. Like...Poe is a bit of a nagging hothead but you know he really cares and does mean well, it's just his relationship with Rey up until this scene wasn't shown enough that I as a viewer could've felt they were on really good terms and bickering as friends. It felt more like they were high strung on frustration and letting it out on each other. Wouldn't have felt that way if either one of them would be arguing with Finn for example. It's just a bummer bc I love the trio, the movies just could've gotten them together earlier and have some more collective bonding moments.
I love the dynamic, its like the best friend and the boyfriend snarking at each other and finn just stuck in the middle, praying the ground will swallow him up 😂
This is one of the many things that went wrong with the sequels: The main trio interacting and going on adventures. I love the sequels but goddamn they had so much more potential
these three were awesome in their roles. i don’t blame them for the way this trilogy turned out as a whole. really sad to look back at all the hype in 2015 and 2016 and remember those good old days
Yeah, I never really blamed Ridley for her awkward performance. It’s the same situation with Christensen in the prequels, you can’t hand an actor a ridiculous script and expect them to perform well.
Just watching those 2 argue like that is like watching a married couple or like how it was with Han and Leia in the Empire Strikes Back when those 2 were arguing a lot at Echo base on Hoth and on the Millennium Falcon as they were hiding inside that asteroid cave that they thought was a cave but found out they were hiding inside an asteroid worm.
@Rose Skywalker no! I just want a good story. Reylo wasn’t supposed to happen but “shippers” made JJ Abrams change the script and look how that turned out.
None of this feels real. They really fucked up with these characters. No developing relationships between these characters for the first two films, Rey and Poe didn’t even meet until the end of the second movie. The very forced bickering doesn’t compensate for the lack of familiarity for these two characters.
@@jordy407 I agree, underrated comment. It feels like they're meant to have known each other forever but they canonically barely have any group dynamics. It's made worse when they add in Rose who adds nothing.

This scene is so good it makes me frustrated. The characters have SO MUCH chemistry, it's a delight to watch them interact. They should've been together since TFA. The entire sequel leaves me with this bitter feeling that it could've been SO INCREDIBLY GOOD if it was written by someone that actually CARED about telling a good story.
I remember walking out of the second movie when it came out in theatres and my mum said to me “I bet Rey and that Poe pilot guy will get together” Usually she isn’t too far off about these things so seeing them bicker like an old married couple reminded me of it
Poe went from a character arc that consisted on him being more responsible to the very first scene in the next one doing an absolute suicide move. JJ, I fucking hate you with my life.
This scene alone has the best dialogue and dynamic in the entire sequel trilogy. THIS should've been consistently seen throughout. I know it's been years but I really hope we can see the 3 of them again. And BB8.
The movies could not bring all three younger actors together from the outset because they were on different arcs. Poe is the 'hotshot' pilot for the Rebellion..... BB8 is his droid...... Finn is the recanted Storm Trooper ...... he just cannot turn up and become one of the main figures in the Rebellion. Rey surprised me about being a Palpantine.... she is another unknown until she actually meets Maz and then Leia who realises there is something really special about her.

This is what should've been throughout the trilogy... this shows so much more character than in TLJ.
Unfortunately, it's far too late.
Tell me you didn’t watch TLJ without telling me you didn’t watch TLJ….
this fucking film is a more disaster tho
They spend most of the movie in TLJ isolated, I personally think it wasnt necessarily something that worked against TLJ but it definitely had adverse effects on the characterization of Finn specifically.
this scene in isolation was... actually really good?
- Poe and Rey clearly both trust and think well of each other but still challenge each other and bicker, like siblings
- Poe is very concerned with BB8's safety but seems to understand that Rey did nothing to hurt him intentionally.
He seeks conflict resolution even among his friends
- The marching away from the Falcon, the jump shots between Finn and Rey, the rotating camera - it all conveys a sense of stress and urgency that all three characters are clearly feeling.
Great scene. Shame.
That's one of the many problems with the Sequels. They're carried by small moments like these as it lacked and interesting plot and story. On top of that, they had bad writing to deal with.
❤❤
I wish we got this trio for longer they’re so fun together
you're right, thrilling, interesting and funny to watch. they were much easier to watch than the original trilogy trio who just argued and talked over each other the whole time. (no disrespect to the original trilogy literally the greatest set of films ever made and the characters will never be matched)

@@ryguy1483 How? They're unbearable.
Everybody gangsta until Poe bust out his white suit and throwing some random bullsh*t

Seeing BB-8 damaged like that makes me really emotional. That cute little ball is precious and should be protected from danger at all costs!
Nah the first order should blow him to scrap metal.
i hate that the relationship of the trio was developed in such a chunky way.

Yeah, I never really blamed Ridley for her awkward performance. It’s the same situation with Christensen in the prequels, you can’t hand an actor a ridiculous script and expect them to perform well.
I honestly really wish we could’ve seen more of this group. I honestly liked Rise of Skywalker for the sort of adventuring party dynamic they all had.
It’s almost cute how they are trying to make it seem like these people know each other.

None of this feels real. They really fucked up with these characters. No developing relationships between these characters for the first two films, Rey and Poe didn’t even meet until the end of the second movie. The very forced bickering doesn’t compensate for the lack of familiarity for these two characters.
Underrated comment.
they have such a great dynamic too, they should have had these 3 together since the first film so that there was time for development

This scene is so good it makes me frustrated. The characters have SO MUCH chemistry, it's a delight to watch them interact. They should've been together since TFA. The entire sequel leaves me with this bitter feeling that it could've been SO INCREDIBLY GOOD if it was written by someone that actually CARED about telling a good story.

i think steven should’ve weighed in here
This is the only bit of characterisation any of them have. This is the most interaction we see in the entire series.
I remember walking out of the second movie when it came out in theatres and my mum said to me “I bet Rey and that Poe pilot guy will get together”
Usually she isn’t too far off about these things so seeing them bicker like an old married couple reminded me of it
Poe went from a character arc that consisted on him being more responsible to the very first scene in the next one doing an absolute suicide move.
JJ, I fucking hate you with my life.
Seeing this in my suggested only now a year or so later, I can only see a nobody arguing with Moon Knight 😂😂😂
