    I am liking the 17R quite a bit. Overall has a nice layout. I like the open space at the front other queen bed. That open real estate is priceless for the feel and flexibility of use and moving around in the trailer. I don’t need the double bunks and that space being allocated to the bathroom is very usable and comfortable.

      I wish the 17R was avaiable when we bought our 17B.

    Thanks for doing this video, I was struggling between the 17B vs R. This helps me lean toward the 17R now. Subscribed!

    Even though kids are grown up and gone, I like the 17B bunkbeds for storage. You can fit a lot of storage items with neatly placed marked stackable storage containers on those bunks. You can even hang a closet rod w/coat hangers to hang any clothes that need be. Also can hang a matching interior curtain on the outside of the bunks to nicely hide the storage & clothing items. You can store a lot more stuff w/bunks than using the 17R bathroom closet. A hell of a lot more! Big time!!

      We use the bunks for storage also. Using large clear totes (or tubs) works well for several reasons. It makes it easy to organize in our house to simply take to the RV.
      By using the clear totes we can print labels on paper and just fold in half and put in the container.

    I have a 17b I will be getting a new bed and I have found a rv bed on Amazon

      We have found that a "normal" size mattress will fit in the 17B. It will stick over the little shelf at the end of the bed, but who is going to miss it?
      There is still room for charging or some other stuff there. Check out our video,

    Yes, Layne Sheets, I will be coming in when my disability 😂is done, unfortunately I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and 5 months before my diagnosis my house burned down but I am thankful that my kids are now adults and my two daughters are in Ardmore Oklahoma, my youngest son in Longview Texas and my oldest son is with his girlfriend so I am going to get this Travel Trailer 17R after looking into this for a while and put on my unrestricted land. I do want to know about a different mattress, leveling jack in front, and solar, thank you both for making this video and have a Blessed weekend.

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  8 місяців тому

      OK- Please let me try to help you.
      1. This page does not go to Layne Sheets. In fact, he no longer works for Camping World.
      This was just a story I was doing for my UA-cam Channel because my viewers had been asking about the 17R.
      2. I have nothing to do with Camping World, at all. They do not sponsor me or support in any way other than to occasionally allow me access to RV models my viewers might want to hear about.
      3. If I was looking for an RV about the size of the 17R, I might look into the Forest River - Salem, 174, mentioned in the video link attached. This is at a different Camping World dealership in Lewisville, TX. Camping world recently bought this “out of business” dealership. The process took over 6 months to complete. This means that several 2023 models were also purchased with the dealership. They were practically giving away the Forest River 2023 models, that are usually $25,000, for only $13K. (Although that was a month or two ago and they might have sold them all by now.)
Talk to BJ Connell at the Lewisville Store.
      BTW- The idea of having them throw in a mattress, will usually work with any RV purchase at any dealer. No salesman is going to throw away a sale because of a $300 mattress, that probably cost them $100.

I hope this helps.

    I just noticed that my local Camping Woeld has the 17B on sale for $13,995.
    That is a decent price, but don't forget to haggle and see what else they can throw in.
    Also be sure to look at the "Sales Contract" for things you might not want or need. You can save $1000s there too.
    Camping World is NOT a sponsor or ours. We get nothing in return for talking about them here.

    I wonder how many of those teddy bear mattresses you could talk them out of. They make for bratty nice comfy beds if you stack them 3 deep. And I bet that they may have a bunch laying around from customers upgrading their mattress to nicer units.

    is it solar prep ? if so can I put 800 watts of solar on the roof. or do i need to add batteries and inverter and other solar stuff on the camper

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  10 місяців тому

      I am not an expert on the solar stuff.
      The recent models of the 17B, and most Coleman’s come “pre-wired for solar.” Unfortunately, “pre-wired” can apparently be a very loose and vague term.
      As it turns out, it is pre-wired for a particular type of solar power system, and if you have that system, and are knowledgeable, you can set it up.
      As I understand it, with any solar array, or system you will need to have controllers and regulators. Some are somewhat generic while other are specific to your needs or application.
      Some will need, or at least prefer, lithium batteries, or at the very least a second lead acid battery.
      These are all questions you will need to pose to an expert.
      Having said that, there are a few videos out there where the owner seemed to have great success in setting up a modest system, on a 17B, that looked really adequate to me.
      You can also get “kits” that are compatible to your Coleman.

Google - “Installing solar on a coleman 17B” and you will find a wealth of information.

    What kind of drainage do those a/c units get? I have read that they can get drippy on the inside if the camper is not set up level or set high on the drivers side.

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  10 місяців тому

      Absolutely. If the RV isn't level, you run that risk.
      All the more reason to get a set of front jacks.

    Do the 17b and 17r use 4pin connecters?

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  10 місяців тому +1

      No. They use the round 7 pin connectors. You will be hard pressed to find the square 4 pin connector on anything other than a small boat or a VERY small travel trailer or small flat utility trailer.
      If you have trailer brakes, you will need a 7 pin.
      Today many states require trailer brakes on just about any size trailer. The Coleman 17 size hits 3000 lb. 42 states require trailer brakes at 3000 lb. Of those, 5 require at 1500 lb and 2 at 2000 lb.

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  9 місяців тому

      I have no idea. That is between you and your dealer.
Always haggle and be sure to look at the “Purchase Contract”.
Just like when you buy a car, they will add all kinds of extras that you might not want or need.
Get them to either include a spare tire or take money off for not having one.
They mentioned a price, when we made the video, but they are always having sales, and if you wait until the next year’s model comes out they will instantly knock $1000 this year’s model.

Haggle! Haggle. Haggle!

      just noticed that my local Camping Woeld has the 17B on sale for $13,995.

    Stating it sleeps 4 comfortably seems to be a ridiculous opening statement

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  10 місяців тому

      Perhaps RV manufacturer,s and dealers, tend to have a loose definition on the word "comfortably."
      Maybe they are comparing it to sleeping on the ground?

    Where can i get agood price for me?i am alone just me . I want 17R. Dwn pmt?

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for your comment and question.
      I am not affiliated with any dealership. I can’t quote any kind of price.
      The price mentioned in the video is an “OK” price, but you can often find sales and better deals if you look around.
      If you are willing to take “last year’s” model you can save even more.
      They are already receiving 2024’s models and they want to get the 2023 RVs off the lot.
      I also caution everyone to look carefully at the purchase contract. Don’t be afraid to ask, “What is this charge for?” The will include things you might not want or need. By telling them to take some things off, you can can save over $1000.
      ALWAYS ask for a new mattress. Act like it might be a deal breaker.
      Go to your local dealer and haggle. You can save lots of money.

      Seen one the other day. 2024 model. Had more plugs inside and side mount ac looked to be changed to off set the rear of ac more to the shroud and a better gap below ac fir drainage. Atleast thats what it looked like to me. The 17bs 2024 had front stabilize jacks to. Was 13,995. Dunno how payments would stack up.

    • @funinourrv
      @funinourrv  11 місяців тому

      That is a good deal. I have seen several 17B and none of them had front stabilizers and the other stuff you mentioned. That doesn't I doubt your observations. Dealers are trying all kinds of things to try to move their inventory.
