Top tip for those zip tie tails - sidecutters. Much less hassle than having to hold on with pliers and use a blade (less risk of slipping and scratching something as well!)
If I left my bike with you I would have absolutely no doubt that it would be looked after and not botched. Same for Mapdec, there's a lot to be said about a company that puts their work out for the world to see.
Really appreciated the work you did on this bike. It would be great to see a complete wheel rebuild. My cycling friend is completely rebuilding my rear wheel with new spokes.
Tidying up the cable tie ends for the computer is a detail few would attend to. I am always tickled by the little hand dance you do when talking about lining up the tyre logos! 👊
Another wonderful video., Lee. I wish you were just down the street from me and not 6,000 miles away! It is nice to see a man who enjoys his craft deliver the best service for his customers. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your shop each week. We all know it takes considerable time to create, edit , and upload the videos but we all appreciate your efforts. Thanks also to Simon for his work and artistry in video editing. Be well, gentlemen. We appreciate you !
Sweet smooth workflow. So relaxing to watch. I personally appreciate the effort to trim off the cable tie ends. Save the skin from being cut when working or cleaning the bike. My method was always to trim them off w a nailcutter. Easy clean smooth rounded snips off those cable tie ends.
The bike looked amazing afterward, seeing all those parts get cleaned was great. I like that you didn't try to inflate the bill, such honest work. I just fixed a bike for a friend and asked them for bits from around the house they don't use anymore. It helps them and helps me so that I don't have to buy bits.
Nice work! Considering the overall, moderate wear I would've replaced both shift cables as a matter of course though...gives me a chance to check the outers for fraying too, behind the caps...maybe your customer wouldn't begrudge paying to get a pair of your nice slick cables. Very nice work though, and I enjoyed seeing your deft hub reconditioning!
@Bikespeeds thanks for the reply ! I only speak as I find gents, and as a bike service video along with all the pre & post production, I sincerely wish your channel goes from strength to strength. Enjoy your weekend......out on your bikes ! 👍
That's the same model as my old bike! I sold it recently, it's cool to see a lookalike. This one was in way rougher shape than mine though, great job on that service!
Great job as usual, it must take quite a lot of time to service the rear wheel, installing the new bearings and clean everyrhing. I usually grease the freehub, especially when the wheels are new, with only light (red) grease to remove the freewheel noise. Bike companies save grease where they can. I had problems in winter with thicker grease when it hardens with cold.. I didn't know Shimano sells this kind of special grease you use.
I ALWAYS change the inner gear cables on Shimano road shifters like these, especially on a service of this level. Seen them fray/snap in that bend inside the shifter too many times. I don't even give the customer the option. I price it into the job. Loving your work tho, long time viewer, rarely comment tho.
@theDude9750 I agree to a certain extent, but with those Shimano drop bar shifters, it's a case of when they will fray/snap, not if. It's better to replace them every service and prevent the customer getting stuck without gears and the shop having to charge extra labour to retrieve the nipple end of the cable from inside the shifter. Especially on this bike when it looks like it hasn't been serviced for a long time.
@@p4ult1 there is no right or wrong answer, your opinion makes a lot of sense but if customers are prone to interpreting it as milking them its best to not do that
Great work and another enjoyable watch fellas! With all that torquing up the lucky customer will fall back in love with his bike once he rides it again, it will feel brand new! Got to say Simon your camera work is on another level compared to when I firsrt started watching the channel. The shots from the rear at 18.20 were absolutely superb 👌
Thanks Jason. You all would not believe how hard Simon works to make our UA-cam happen. I’m purely the face for all his hard work. Even our website and focus and goals are all more Simon than me. For a father and Son to do something as exciting as UA-cam together is immensely satisfying. Thank you for your kind words. Lee
16:20 chain is routed incorrectly through the rear mech. I assume it was put right as in the next shot it is ok. But thankyou very much for demonstrating the bearing change of the rear wheel, as I have Level Carbon rear wheel with crunchy bearings, and was unsure of the dismantling procedure.
that cassette really cleaned up nicely. Have you thought of using the detail brush from the top down so any debris in the brush doesn't get on the handles and seats.
I have two sets of those level5 carbon wheels. Ribbles carbon brand. Had to replace bearings in both sets within 1500 dry kms. Cracking wheels apart from the bearings.
Kudo's to you maintaining that Canyon, I cannot do that in a shop, I have to do it myself bc the shops refuse to do anything with my Canyon since it's not store bought. btw that cycle computer is hilarious
Hi Guys great service as usual and nice Canyon would be interested to know when you do your next Q&A where you source some of your tools from? Also have you ever thought of getting some flush cut side cutters for those cable ties ?? Knipex make some great ones but there are other manufacturers as well such as Bhaco .
What ultrasonic cleaner do you use? Be interested in getting hold of one, notice that they aren't available on the website. Also what cleaner do you use? Looks like a handy thing to have at home for deep cleaning, not just bikes
They are all quite generic, we would like to buy some to sell but the investment is more than we can afford. If you search 6L ultrasonic cleaner you should find one similar 🧡⚙️
Does your ultrasonic cleaner heat up the water by the cleaning process itself? I've noticed on mine it will heat up the water by the nature of sonic vibrations even though I have the built-in heater turned off.
Honestly the way a sram cassette on xdr is mounted is so much better. Shimano cassettes tends to dig in on aluminium free hub bodys. Took me an hour to got those seperated! Really frustrating!!!!
Great video! What bearings did you use for the wheels? I don't know what manufactuer to choose for my wheels (ntn, skf or enduro) and I ask people opinions. PS: I have a force caseete and it has the same chrome finish on it and they clean absolutely beautiful
I really like the way you don’t assume that every cyclist gets a new bike every 2 years and thinks paying 10k for a bike is reasonable. Great to see the customer coming first.
Nicely done. Except, why cut the cable end off the rear derailleur cable? They're easy enough to de-crimp and slide off. I'm shocked at owners neglect of their expensive bike!
“Just a routine service”… ))) I think your routine service is more comprehensive than most shops complete overhauls! Nicely done!

If the cables are fine, don't do it. It's super easy to just replace everything and charge the customer for it and he never comes back.

If I saw correctly that was an 11 speed cassette and I though you should swap at 0.5% wear, is opinion divided on that ? Good work as always.
I change at 0.75% on that gauge, or 0.5% on one that ignores roller.

Servicing a bike without changing shifting and brake cable? What’s that…?
It costs 10€ and takes 10min to replace the cables…
With a bike that is that filthy, IMO, there is no way the cables were good.
