      Im popping my PRND fuse , replaced ignition switch/module , by the key , replaced multi function switch , replaced the whole transmission that worked in my other truck , so i put it back in it . Still blows the stupid fuse , no tach , ni speedo , stuck in second ..im replacing the wire harness now to the transmission and doing a dash swap ,with a bunch of new wire harnesses, but my hopes ain't high ..could the cluster do that , blow the fuse for prnd ? 2000 gmc 3500 bucket truck ..5.7 4l80e 2wd

    Hi Jeff 👋 just wanted to chime in and say that after much UA-cam "U" videos last fall i preformed the A8 ground correction , minimal successes was had , after driving through the winter months with ever increasing random ( hit a bump ) outage/reboot. I slid the closest tool ( an ice scraper) above the cluster and wiggled the cluster connection,,,,, woop woop ,,, 🙌 it worked 💪 . So i left it stuffed in there 😆 worked great till the temperatures climed close to the hondo mark ,,,, so i decided to disassemble the dash again,,,, i know just 4 screws because i had never put the basel back on .... anyway to make a very long story shorter ,,,,, I had read about all the wonky soldier joints on these clusters ,,,,, imagine how surprised I was to find the joints for the actual cluster connector had were bad . I proceeded to resolider those ( yep i did em all ) and to my amazement lol the cluster is now working as designed 😅 thanks for all the work you do for the struggling 99-02 chevrolet silverado lovers out here 💪🙏🙌👍🏻👍🏻💯

I believe it’s the headlight switch because last 99-02 vehicle I worked on had this problem and there headlight switch was bad it wasn’t making connection inside no more, I usually just by pass this problem from the fuse box and all lightning works again but I believe by changing the headlight switch it will fix the problem

    I have something like the intermittent gauge issue, exept the engine light, volt and oil pressure are not affected. Everything else goes off like crazy, all warning lights are flashing and needles jump up and down. Happens after driving 30 min to an hour. Sometimes it goes back to normal after a couple minuttes and other times it goes on for hours, or until i stop the car for a couple min. Tried the ground wire fix and no luck. You have an idea what coult cause this?

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  8 місяців тому

      Since the volt gauge is continuously working, that lets me know the ground and ignition wire is good. And since the RPM and mile per hour are cutting in and out along with the gauges that use the bus signal, that lets me know it's probably not the serial bus. So you probably have internal cluster issues, like fractured solder joints on the cluster PCB.

    Hey Bud, I have a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. I just replaced the stepper motor but my display says low fuel when it isn’t. Any idea or is it my damn sending unit. Thanks

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  2 місяці тому +2

      For 2002 and older it's always a sending unit. Chevy didn't start to use defective stepper motors until 2003.
      But the cluster doesn't trigger the low fuel light by the location of the needle. So even if you did have a bad aircore gauge motor, it's impossible for that to trigger the low fuel light. You have a bad sending unit, and or wiring to the sending unit.

    • @TailEndCustoms

      Nevermind. Just saw probably sending unit cuz I cleaned the ground under the front driver wheel. Ugh. May as well replace the fuel pump too

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  2 місяці тому +2

      @@TailEndCustoms the instrument cluster doesn't need or require the gauge motor for the low fuel indicator to function. There is no direct connection besides the data bus and the sending unit between the low fuel indicator and the motor that moves the gas gauge needle. They are otherwise independent of each other.

    • @jeffescortlx

    I've been having issues with my 2000 Silverado cluster.
    When I turn the truck off, take the key out, open and shut the door, once the dome light goes out, the high beam indicator and cruise control indicator both light up on the cluster and stay lit. It drains the battery. Also the D on the gear select is dimly lit, just barely able to make it out when it's dark.
    Even if I take the key out and leave the door open, the lights will still come on. Everything on the cluster works fine and normal. I've sent the cluster out for refurbishment, still does it. I don't know if it's the cluster or something else shorting out waking the cluster up. I've replaced the multifunction switch with factory new, still does it.
    Next I will put a refurbished BCM in. Maybe it's bad?? Idk.
    Do you know what circumstance would cause these lights to come on and drain the battery? Radio off, security light off, just what I stated above.
    I'm lost with this one, I have to remove and install the radio fuse everytime I park and drive the truck.

      The boot up test sequence is triggered when the cluster's powered up. That is when it runs through all of the warning indicators. Usually this is caused by interment power, possibly bad ground. The gas gauge pointing straight down could be from a bad sending unit for wiring.
