If no one else says, man I REALLY appreciate this in-depth behind the scenes because it really teaches small productions another way of approaching accomplishing a vision. We all pretty much shoot solo, but with a team, its easier and feels much more professional. The artist is at ease, the director is at ease, and the crew is at ease. Everyone does their job and goes home happy to know that you all accomplished what you set out to do. Big salute to you and everything you give to us.
Im actually amazed that you were able to do something of this magnitude only giving the producer $5000 to work with in LA. You paid his fee, makeup, art, models, car rental and studio rental... Your dude is a wizard and must be crazy connected. Keep him on your speed dial. Y'all did an amazing job for this project and i think you made some very smart decisions regarding what to do with that budget. Thank you for this video. It was. A very valuable lesson in the difference a good producer can make on set.
I've never watched a 25min UA-cam video but I always tune in when you upload. Loved every minute. Appreciate everything you do to help out the film community. 🙏🏾
This video was mind blowing brother. It's good to hear how you cut your own pay back just to make sure that your client got the best look possible. I know that sometimes your personal profit margin is based off of your own resources and you took what you knew and outsourced what you didn't know. I really love your content man. Please make more videos showcasing the business side of the industry. A lot of us want to know how you prospect/qualify clients, how you follow up with them and how you get to where you can work on a $10k video shoot. That's one of my goals for next year and I'd love to catch your perspective.
Yo I'm 42 and just now getting into shooting music vids. I've been mainly a short documentary maker. I've been studying you and Olufemi for the past year for insight to shooting music vids. You are a dope young brother. Mad respect. Big Big love to you family
BRO!!! SO MANY ARTIST NEED TO SEE THIS!! 10 - 12 hours is the norm on sets. Glad you got the opportunity to get a taste of the set life. happy for you man; keep thriving
Thank you for sharing! I double majored in Theatre and Business in college and one of my favorite things was building sets, lighting, sound and all the behind the stage stuff and stage management/Directing. I always love when someone can share the tips for different ideas and show different ways to utilize space and props. A lot of very awesome things going on here. Again thank you for sharing even down to the cost etc. Having a reliable producer always helps too. I’ve been following Chris Cash for a little over two years now and I’m always interested to see what projects he’s working on. Great work to the both of you!
Bro, I’ve been slowly going through your videos and you constantly drop gems in them. The b-rolls with the fast/slow shot are probably my favorite. Keep up the good work.
Bruh this is the most valuable UA-cam video I’ve watched this year. Reviews and all that are cool, but a 100% real story about your experience is something that’s irreplaceable in the UA-cam scene. And your down to earth delivery and dope visual storytelling made it a pleasure to watch. Thank you for putting it out for everyone to learn from.
I shot many music videos this year off my own budget and I can tell you, for the artist, the $ investment can be insane. Venue is usually the greatest cost along with travel and lodging. Finding the talent in new cities can be a challenge. But the worst part is everyone trying to milk the budget and ask for crazy amounts just because someone seems to have money. My advice for filmmakers trying to secure more business and deals is to set a flat rate (regardless of someone’s status in life) or a system which increases rate by a scale based on the amount of exposure. Because there is nothing worse than changing your fee just because someone seems affluent but you deliver the same product. That’s like a girl making you work extra hard to get a date with her but then goes to another guy and throws herself at him on site. Not ragging on you, you actually did it fairly. These were my lessons in coordinating video as a producer and artist. Im glad you secured that deal. For everyone else reading however, anything over $5k is serious money. So treat it accordingly. It’s so easy to burn a bridge without knowing and wondering why you never got hired back. And most the time the money is coming out of the artists pocket, not a banks pocket, so it intensifies the investment. If you really want to stand out, creative video fx are the new wave. Where are you from?
This is blessed I appreciate all these different viewpoints and details that are crutial! On that note of having a producer that sounds like such an easy shooting day. Not having to worry about all of that, just executing your job to the fullest with a clear mind.
I almost never comment on videos man, but I really needed to tell you that this kind of content is gold. No one out there is being so clear about money and for us that are hustling in this field really help us. Thanks man! I hope you really continue making this kind of clear, in-depth type of video!
I live in Atlanta and bruh you’re the reason why I do videos now. I produce music and now I’m starting to get clientele for music vids. Thanks bro! Atlanta is starting to become film centric now and money is starting to rush in my city so again thanks because I would’ve never known about this if I never clicked ya videos!
Actually kinda surprised you 'only' took $1,000, but I take the point about passion projects / improving your portfolio :) Appreciate the video man thanks
Subbed and liked! I’ve done a few rap videos myself and it isn’t the primary choice because of all the planning and editing that goes into it. Having a producer to relieve the stress is something I never even thought of but need. The budget makes sense when you think about it and this whole video is inspiring. Love finding new dope black creatives on UA-cam. Can’t wait to view more of your content.
Thank you bro I don’t think you understand how helpful you are. Not only that I personally appreciate you for staying grounded and still talking to us filmmakers who are not necessarily at your level.
Man thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m having first video shoot this Saturday. Nervous rocking can’t even describe my emotions. Another thing, I was so surprised to learned how much you walked away with. I truly appreciate you sharing this with us. I will share this with my artist as well so they are aware. Thank you. Much love!!!
Not surprised in the slightest. I have made online ads for companies with a similar budget and when it's all said and done, you don't really walk away with much. So much money is poured into making everything work and align. Keep it up brother. I know the budgets are only going to get bigger for you!

So true, I get artist in my DM's asking for $150 music videos.... My camera set up alone is 5k or more not including lights, fog machine, adobe subscription, and time spent learning the skill that make them want to shoot with you
P Allan Films that’s crazy bro! I can only imagine and to me that’s an insult especially if you’ve which I’m sure have mastered your equipment and software etc. Get your money and they have no choice but to respect your price point. Keep going my G. Respect! ✊🏽
Awesome in debt behind the scenes from beginning to end. A lot of information in detail. Is definitely cool that you shared the budget, what was even more incredible is that the artist definitely stepped up and give you feedback most artists don't do that. I also agree those tube lights were incredible, this is another example on how you can do a lot with crops once you light them up. That's one big reason why a lot of people don't get phenomenal shots or even interesting Concepts it's because they don't think out of the box. I build a chroma key video room setup in my basement, the problem I'm always having is that my ceiling is too low so therefore my overhead lighting is always a big issue. But after watching this I was approaching it all wrong I could have thought about less chroma key and more of a visual setup with props and furniture to utilize the space even more. This video is very motivational great job YC
And easy way to extend the fake walls is to mirror the sides in premier, Gives a nice trippy effect too. I had a similar setup and problem and this is how i overcame it. beats cropping and a lot less work then tracking! let me know how it goes...
Great video man, LA is losing when it comes to the film industry. Guy shooting narratives on GH4 & GH5'S with low to no budget are being asked for permits. This is crazy and also the reason the industry has moved to Atlanta. BTW, you did not include post production editing which should be a crucial part of the budget.
I’m happy to see you get the type of experience on this type of production that you need going into the next level of your filming career. This was very good experience and exposure for you. Congrats. Phelix
Unknown you should do some research. Look on the web. Why do u need a budget camera? Is it for shooting pictures like portraits or for video recording. You can get an entry level dslr under $500-$1200. Get the best you can afford, is what I would suggest if your on a budget. Also know the reasons to why you want a budget camera, and look for cameras that can give you the features you need. They have DX crop sensors and FX full frame sensors. Some have the ability to take pictures and record video in low light situations. You have to do some research and find the best one that suits your needs.
I used my Lumix G7 for music videos. You can find it online between 400-600 bucks. Also, Lumix G85, Sony a6300 have gone down in price too. These cameras all shoot 4k.

This is your best upload this year. Super proud and honored to watch you grow! The grade you put on this is a HIT! Love the warm tones. I like getting a nice check, but I hate being a one man band. I’m really big on things being organized, so I’d rather take less money for a less stressful and better project outcome. You did really well with the budget. I took some notes. Paying and feeding a crew is expensive but it has to be done.
Really? That’s wild. When I was in film school my professor stressed it cuz they’ll shut your shit down in a heart beat if they want. It’s pretty wack. It’s pretty much them imposing a tax but calling it a permit. Smh. Cash grabbing for sure.
Dope video YC! Love the BTS shots and how in depth you went into everything from budget to locations and producers - really great knowledge as always. As I’m looking to work my way up to collaborating with bigger crews and budgets it’s great to see what you’re doing on your projects. Interesting to hear your budgeting priorities and I totally agree - set design and lighting will always be more important than a camera package, to a certain degree of course. You’ve got serious skills and passion and I’m looking forward to watching you continue to move up in the industry in your area!
Love your channel because you can see the hard work and passion. I got the Sony A7iii because I watched your review twice. I've watched a lot of the big names on here, but I'm glad I found your content. It's on a real level. I'm very inspired :)
I think i have watched this vide three times now lol. I love how transparent you are and how helpful your information is. Does not hurt that your videos are just dope to begin with. Hope i can get to make music videos of your quality one day. Its one of my goals right now.
Man this is soo dope! Please do these in-depth BTS videos often, it was soo informative. I have always wanted to know your exact set up for different shots and your mind set so this is awesome!!!
Hell no I'm not surprised actually you underestimate your value. Because you in a different area. But I have no doubt did you will be one of the highest paid video production companies around because of your talent. Just dont box yourself in doing only music videos. Advertising is where the bag is. Budget is ridiculous. With minimal editing. Do this! Divide your pay by the hours you spent shooting & editing. Then tell us how much you made per hour?
@@oohstocks after editing I think it's going to be much lower. Full day filming, and probably at least another full day editing. I would guess closer to 50$/hr. But then you have in factor in time lost due to travel, that could have been spent on other work. So it's technically lower, just not measurable.
@@bstuartTI Yea, I moved away from that, I went full post production 3d vfx work in an agency. I get paid way more and don't have to deal with budget limitations.
Advertising is often the most soul-sucking work you can do. Source: 18 years of working for advertising agencies. Going solo was the best thing I ever did for my career and I'm the happiest I've ever been with my work. I don't want to speak for YC but if he enjoys making music videos...that's his thing. It's not all about $$$$$$.
yoooooooo man, i was glued to this. First of all THANK YOU. Couple days ago i tried to explain all this to some guys who asked about getting a music video done, now i got something physical to refer people to. Funny thing to is that on my last shoot, i recommended renting those Astera lights to increase the production value but the budget just wasnt there. Video looks dope, cant wait to see it. Keep up the great work
I understand what you going through with the process making video or film project. I am going through the same boat. Thank you for making the behind the scene. You have done an amazing job for this project and you are right about building a relationship with your connection and don't burn bridges with the ones who help you out. And including budgeting and Video set planning which is very important. It is a team effort doing a film. Thank God that I've take the time to see your topic or thumbnail where I randomly check out your video. I would like to see in the future that if we can work together.

What I notice about this shit is, the more you experience a deeper dive into the industry standards of all it takes to get top notch content, the more you are inspired to reach the next level. I know you're ready to take shit to the next level ASAP and are excited to do so. Blessings
Thank you! This was hands down an awesome informative BTS video. I definitely appreciate that you are so transparent about the budget and what you got paid for this video... I have been following you on IG for a min now and I absolutely love not only your work, but also your passion. I always come to your page when I am trying to spice up my videos on my channel... keep grindin bruh! You are doing awesome!
1K ???? you crazy ???? whas the client your friend or something like that ??? this is too litle brother, you got to charge more, or work for me, cus your stuff is good .
Great info man! That was crazy with the fire marshal and all wow. Yeah those Astera lights are THE TRUTH!!! Used them with a major client a few weeks ago and made words with them in the background and it turned out amazing! Crazy thing is they are not much more than quazars. If we had used quazars it would have been a nightmare forming words with all those wires because the words were suspended in the air with 50lb fishing line and had to appear to be floating. Also love the fact that they can be controlled with your phone. That blew me away! Great video shoot can’t wait to see the color graded version of your video because it looks great already!
Really awesome that you shared the budget, most directors would never do this. With that being said I think a big mistake was the location, a warehouse looks the same in L.A. as it does in your home town or the artists home town. It doesn't make sense to fly extra and pay for hotels for half the crew/cast when the location is not specifically tied to any noticeable landmarks. The producer "seems" great but he didn't cover your permit which led to wasted time on set. Models and old cars are super easy to come by in any town. All this could've been more money in your pocket and less hassle.
Real talk, you're too good to be charging $1000 per shoot. $1000 + $500/hr sounds fair, plus a separate fee for editing... And they should also be paying for your travel, unless you are already factoring that into your fee. But seriously, you're trippin, bro. Time to scale up!
Looking at some of the shots I'm actually surprised the budget was that low! The piece where you mentioned prioritizing your budget was crucial! Every set was designed so well and the lighting came together in such a cool way that I thought it looked like a much bigger budget film. I've been on set of a $100,000 music video with a fairly large crew and I love how your shots turned out in comparison! Keep killing it man! Thanks so much for sharing this story!
Dude. Everything is this video was super informative. Thank you! Honestly seeing some of the shots I would have expected that budget to be way higher. Congrats to you and your team.
Your breakdown of the budget and production was great info for all the solo shooters out there. I did a shoot in that same studio and funded it myself and spent about that same amount once all the crew, equipment, food, props, wardrobe, and location fees were paid.
Long one, but a good one! Which setup was your favorite from the shoot? COMMENT BELOW

I find that the biggest challenge in video production. Conveying to clients the amount of work and cost it takes to produce a quality video.
They only see what happens during the shoot. They don't often see what goes on before and after.

Drew Kocak Same here. Been filming web series and films in LA for years. That def sounded like BS. Glad they worked it out
the ARTHOUSE x lamont pierré interesting, what’s your IG bro?

Alberto Gutierrez So Many Rules in LA, wow great 👍🏾 info
Really? That’s wild. When I was in film school my professor stressed it cuz they’ll shut your shit down in a heart beat if they want. It’s pretty wack. It’s pretty much them imposing a tax but calling it a permit. Smh. Cash grabbing for sure.
Wow! This is such a great channel. I learn SO MUCH every time I check out one of your videos. Thank you for your great work.
You know it’s real when the ronin m come back out
lmaooooooo
🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha too good
man you give me hope when i think about calling it a day this video helped me so much .......MUCH LOVE KING
Im already into this video and it just started
I was gunna leave this video without showing loving. But after all that hard work, it’s well deserved 💯
How does the autofocus of the Sony a7III work with the Canon 50mm f / 1.4 (Lens)?
Jose Antonio Guzman Luciano Doesn’t work I believe
@@YCImaging you know an adapter that works well with?
with which camera uses the Canon 50mm f/1.4 (Lens)?
I have an a6500 with a Metabones mark V and a Canon 50mm 1.4. For vídeos autofocus is non existent. Photos your fine. Don’t use it for video.
@@DavidMota thanks men
Dope video YC!
This was a wonderful insight!! Really enjoyed it, and I learnt a lot too. :-)
Love your channel because you can see the hard work and passion. I got the Sony A7iii because I watched your review twice. I've watched a lot of the big names on here, but I'm glad I found your content. It's on a real level. I'm very inspired :)
HLG on this music video too? I think we will all like to know how you go about color grading this profile picture.
I appreciate this type of content. IMO you’re hitting the soft spot that not everyone is diving into. Killing it YC! 🔥🔥
YC and TCrook$ is like Dre and Snoop!
I think i have watched this vide three times now lol. I love how transparent you are and how helpful your information is. Does not hurt that your videos are just dope to begin with. Hope i can get to make music videos of your quality one day. Its one of my goals right now.
Hey YC, how did you find the producer?
@cash1313cc
Thank you for highlighting the budget! The budget is super important and I hope every client out there would understand that too.
Bro, we did a 13-hour shoot once for a 60-second commercial that ultimately got cut down to 30 seconds before it went live.
That shit's the worst
I guesstimate he made as bout 75 bucks an hour

Dope video. I appreciate the conversational tone and BTS feel. Looking forward to the next one.
Dope content YC💪🏽 I'm headed to LA this March to shoot...I didn't even think about permits...😞 watch me run into a similar issue smh 🤷🏽♂️
better start sourcing them permits now!
them permits are a bitch, bro you better start now
yoooooooo man, i was glued to this. Keep up the great work
Story time with YC!
Damn bro you came to LA and didn't hit me up :(
When you rap about Money on a budget...
The man himself is back, you and Crooks have the best collaborations!
Lights are called Astera lighting tubes
There’s one guy on the tube who talks about them. There not in this country and it’s hard to find out how much the cost . B&h dosent sell them
@@aLgProduction Yes I've been searching for a price on them website is confusing as well lol
Yes and I got the hook up in La for those lights. @cash1313cc

These are another company that makes them. Apelabs is the company that makes them. Here is a video link on how they work. Good look guys. And great job on the video!!!!

What I notice about this shit is, the more you experience a deeper dive into the industry standards of all it takes to get top notch content, the more you are inspired to reach the next level. I know you're ready to take shit to the next level ASAP and are excited to do so. Blessings
10k seems extremely cheap for this much in the video
All the filmmaking going on in LA and this Fire Marshall decides to harass your project. Super lame.
I don't even make videos but I find your content so interesting and your voice incredibly soothing. Love what you do!
1K ???? you crazy ???? whas the client your friend or something like that ??? this is too litle brother, you got to charge more, or work for me, cus your stuff is good .
Sergio Cavalieri 👋
Lol. . I'm at 8:17 and I'm like wait.. the artist paid for all the booking and everything right, plus the 1k? lol let me keep listening..
Nevermind 19:20ish..the artist paid the 10k
HE DID IT FOR THE LOVE OF VIDEOGRAPHY BROTHER, I CAN ALSO DO THAT , U HAVE TO ENJOY WHAT U ARE DOING
I really wish I could have won that Apurture light. sigh...
So $5,000 went to the producer and he didn't even get a permit?
If you know anything about production, you would know that 5k is nothing to shoot a music video. Especially when you have a full crew. But god bless.
@@cash13cc A. Permit.
Los Angeles is notorious for permits, doesn't matter where you're filming. Glad they cut you a break and didn't shut it done! Great informative video.
I definitely would have thought it would cost more than $10k. Did you edit the video too? I feel like you didn't pay yourself enough.
I see more money should be paid off to him....men the lights makes amazing
Loved this BTS bro. Another dimension to your brand. Felt that pain, joy, etc. etc. Bless Up!
My friend...Your day rate is way too low! I'm really surprised that you pulled that off for 10k!
I like you but you always sound nervous lol
Lighting is soooooooooooo important! Nicely done.
