Awesome piece of history! You don't have to worry about that cowling sinking/floating away, but that gas cap situation is not ideal. I wish I lived in a place where people would just leave old outboards on their sidewalks or have access to scrapyards full of them! In central valley California that is a $150 motor without spark! I suppose we do have boating season all year.
Man been trying to rebuild my 7.5 for awhile now just dug into tonight after pulling on it all day and found the spark plug wire is shot. I’m hoping that’s it 🙏
Seems odd the transom clamp. I kinda thought that was standardized long ago. Another Sears motor. I bought a 3 horse air cooled sears gamefisher in the early 80s. Obviously a cheap motor, since I was s poor college student.
I use to laugh at Sears engines. Little did I know that there were some hidden gems in their line up over the years depending on who was making them for them. For example, the 5hp in my other video. That thing is amazing. And the 15 looper is no slouch either.
There’s a hole you can put the metal bar in right at @1:17 that’s made for transportation unless I’m misunderstanding idk I’m high
😂

Thanks and welcome!
Turd Williams! Might be crap but still outruns the old style omc 6hp.
Great nickname! Yup, as sweet as those 6hp OMC’s ran, they were certainly no powerhouses.
My '51 Gale 5hp outran my late 60's 6hp Evinrude, but the Evinrude was really quiet. Both ran like sewing machines.
