1 1/2 C. sports drink
6 grams Telephone brand agar-agar
In a saucepan add the sports drink and sprinkle in the agar. Whisk to blend and bring the mixture to a boil. Cool slightly and drip into cold vegetable oil. Using a sieve, strain the spheres from the oil and rise the spheres with warm water. Marvel and eat!
This video is NOT sponsored. Just wanted to make jelly spheres. 😇

More Kitchen Science? Meat glue, fizzy fruit, foams? Speak, Lovelies, speak.
M...meat glue..?
emmymadeinjapan yeeeesss! I remembered my graduation project i made the same thing using alginate which is derived from algae and salt solution cacl2 to make a waste water filtration system.
What is meat glue? Like when they used to make glue from horses...?
emmymadeinjapan please do the fizzy fruit experiment! It involved dry ice and I believe sprite?
emmymadeinjapan fermenting sauerkraut? Or pickles😁

Hello 👋 how are you doing
You have an extremely contagious excitement, I honestly almost started clapping like an idiot when you poured out those jellies!
Christopher Metcalf same! Lol
It is very exciting... I'm such a nerd!
lmao!!! 😭😹
she's just the best at what she does 😹😸
Hahahaha same
Christopher Metcalf same I love her and her personality it's so refreshing
Make balsamic vinegar ones for salad!
David & Barbara Mielke I like the way you think!!!
That would be awesome!!
That would be amazing, but would the vinegar interfere with the setting of the agar agar?
What about coffee balls for a caffeine fix?
@@gw4451 not at all
I saw “agar” “orbeez” and “kitchen science” and have never clicked so fast
Edit: Yep. Loved this so much! I REALLY hope to see more of these kitchen science videos!
💕🙌🙌🙌💕
On the oil freezing; oil and fat are both lipids and are only different by definition in that fats are solid at room temp and oils are still liquid. At sufficiently low temps both are solid. Fun project!
coconut oil melts at like 77* f, so it's often solid at room temp
Saturated fats: solid at room temp
Unsaturated fats: liquid at room temp
10:56 omg I love her snort 😂😂😂
10:55
I thought her shirt said “Wingstop”, I must be hungry lol.
Don’t know if you have it already, but I think you should create a Tee with ‘so stinkin cute’ as your quote or maybe brand motif! Lol that’s so your phrase. Love how technical you are about the science behind everything too ✌🏾❤️
That'd be an adorable icecream topping with the right flavours
Maybe cranberry juice?
I feel like guava juice would be delicious for that purpose.
You could also use strawberry fruit drink. Raspberry would be even better.
They have things like that at frozen yogurt shops
@@ameera.abubakr I think you mean popping boba! Those are made with the method she mentioned in the video with sodium, but this does the exact same thing as both are just different ways of spherification :)
*WINSTON*
Silent Bethlehem tell me, PLEASE. WHO IS WINSTON?!
He is the crumb who hangs around Emmy's lip. He does occasional appearances.
I know that now! Emmy helped me find it last night!
You should try the Hawaiian version of shaved ice. The ice is a lot softer then icee and they use vanilla ice cream on the bottom, if you haven’t tried it already that is it’s so delicious. Those look super cute and yummy 😋

Bad
I've had that. It's great.
"Southern Snow" from Louisiana is also made with shaved, rather than crushed, ice and has a whole different tecture than that supposed "snow cones" made elsewhere.
I love your excitement and enthusiasm. You are such a joy.
I tried to sphereify orange juice using this method once and I absolutely froze my oil, thinking it wouldn’t solidify 😂
i attempted to make this today and i did a few mistakes. here’s my advice so you can avoid them:
1) make the oil as cold as possible. if you dont the droplets will not form. they will pop and bleed into each other
2) dont skimp out on the oil. the more oil you have the longer the drop will have to travel which will give it more time to form.
3) drop it in slowly. you dont want to disturb the other orbs
im going to try this again 👌🏼
What kind of oil? Vegetable oil or canola oil?
Maty Kate Christensen canola
Thank you for this valuable information 🙏
dont forget to rinse the bubbles in water for a while so you can get rid of the oil
It's crazy how she brought up those little meals she used to make because that's how I originally found her when I was younger and I just re discovered her and have been binge watching her videos this being one of many.
That laugh/snort was adorable 😆
I LOVE LEARNING ABOUT MOLECULAR GASTRONOMY!!! I first learned it at school and it was fascinating!
Your sheer joy is easily more than half of what makes this video great.
i really love when you're genuinely very happy. always gives me a smile when i watch
You are such a bundle of joy it makes me more joyful.
when you dropped the balls in the glass it reminded me of that drink from the late 90s/early 2000s, orbitz. I thought it was so cool.
Two things I like about this video the most: your very honest response to vitamin water... and the sound you made while pouring the yellow mixture into the jar
Definitely doing this with my daughter. Asap!! U make learning fun for kids Emmy, awesome!
ah! i'm sure this is how they made the small orbs in the orbitz drinks (from the 90's). i wonder if they float in water! awesome video :)
I did this with green tea a few months back :P
omg that sounds great
Can you use gelatin?
@@idk-jp7iu nope.
This sort of thing is why I love your videos. Always always interesting, fun, and relaxing.
I love your videos Emmy! They are always interesting and fun to watch :3
Those little spheres mixed into ice cream would make for a very interesting & fun texture!
Jar of honey. I love looking for the Easter egg in every video.
Victoria what do you mean
lifelessdead89 if Emmy steps away from the camera during a video there’s sometimes a little caption that appears over some out of focus object in the background.
Still one of the most genuine channels on UA-cam. Such an awesome channel. Keep doing your thing Emmy.
I loved this video ❤ Your enthusiasm is amazing!!!
They kinda look like dippin dots or like those bubble things you get at froyo lol. So cute Emmy!! Love your videos!!!
I ❤💛💚💙💜 balls!! Hi Emmy! Any thought about making some pho yet?
Bellas World that sounds so wrong.
Bellas World 🌍
Bellas World You did it wrong

Some of the people here didn't read the video description~
I literally get so excited when you post a video 💕😆🙌🏾 you are so amazing, Emmy
I love how happy you are about this ! Made my day☺️☺️
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
I ❤💛💚💙💜 balls
Autumn Branscome omg I LOVE your reference! Cant wait for Lost World!
Especially when they come in pairs? 😂😂
You love balls I heard
Hello 👋 how are you doing
Hearing your cute little gigglesnort was exactly what I needed lol ♡
Hello 👋 how are you doing
emmy this is great thank you for all of your wonderful videos!
The algenate version makes the "popping pearls", they take a bit of finessing but it's a great first step into molecular gastronomy (but you will need a high-powered stick blender to make sure the solutions are mixed thoroughly), they're pretty popular as ready-made kits that have the powders all pre-measured
HappyG don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment but do you have the ratios to create the “popping”? I’ve tried several times but I get a gel sphere. 🤷♀️
@@christineperkins672 Actually yes! The key factor is time. The trick is to only leave them in the bath solution for a short amount of time so that only a "skin" forms on the outside and it doesn't harden all the way through.
It's a difficult balance because if there isn't enough surface tension they may break as you remove them, or if left too long they won't have that satisfying pop. Other possible factors may include your ratios and other ingredients though, so you may need to tweak your recipe. Hope that helps!
HappyG thank you so much! Do you remember how long you left them in?
HappyG and did you get them to be like the commercial brands?
@@christineperkins672 Sorry I haven't made them since culinary school *years* ago! 😅
But IIRC it was a small time-window and pre-freezing your spheres helps to control some of the variables.
My heart kinda broke when she said “Nope! Don’t like Mountain Dew at all.”
Seeing your absolute delight when it all came together was priceless!!!
Hello 👋 how are you doing
You get so excited!! It's so cute to watch.
Red, Black and Green... I see you Emmy 😉.. I'll tell the delegates to send your invitation to Wakanda... Lol. All jokes aside I love your videos... Food science is so dope.
Yassssss
freakishly fun!!! wow!! ty for sharing! love yr vids and youre so upbeat! love when you get tickled at yourself!
Tina Marie Farmer ikr she the best
Hello 👋 how are you doing
When u tasted it and did the little dance, u r so adorable!! I always send your stuff to my mom and she talks about u like u r from another world! Some magical Emmy dimension
Emmy, you getting so excited literally made my entire week. You're the best haha
Hello 👋 how are you doing
So what do you do with the spheres once you've made them? Just eat them as is, decorate cakes, etc.?
Callie Masters it's up to you
Thinking mermaid or fish cake with sphere bubbles
Maybe put them in some fruity bubble tea?
NailsInTheCityy theyre super good in granola&yogurt parfaits too!
Ice cream topping?
We love molecular gastronomy! It’s so cool! Did you know that you can make little worms or snakes instead of spheres? Or you could make bigger ones with a teaspoon! It takes a lot of practice for that one but it’s so fun trying! I also made color changing ones!
Hello 👋 how are you doing
This is one of the cutest videos on UA-cam! You're such a ray of sunshine 💛💛💛
Soooo cool! Amazing!!! My favorite part was seeing how excited you were to be doing that, it got me so excited that I'm going to have to try this!!! I can't wait!😄 I love balls❤💛💚💙💜
At 10:44 she literally labeled "jar of honey" where the shelf is 😂
Arya Amatya I thought I was the only one that noticed lol
She has been doing this labelling of random things in her videos as little Easter eggs for us to find
These little labels are my most favorite part
I'd be curious to see more of these sorts of recipes made with the agar agar that is in most regular grocery stores here in the US. Since the properties of what you get in the asian markets seem to vary.
Interesting...I've never seen agar-agar at my supermarket. I'll have to investigate - thanks!
@emmymadeinjapan It's quite possible I'm just shopping in too fancy of a grocery store lol. I see it frequently in Wegmans and have seen it in my Safeway, not sure where else carries it. But when I do see it it's located in the section with health/whole foods, usually where you find the more unusual flours and grains. I may just have to pick some up to mail.
I've seen Agar Agar at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's as well!
Miriah Marsh they sell it in the baking section of the supermarkets here in Europe, or at least the region I live in. 👍 I got a box of the packets a while back but haven't yet used it. This is the perfect idea, my daughter would love this. (idk what these orbeez things are; never seen them so dunno if you can get them here?)
We have it here at a itty bitty hick town in KY with a hours drive to the nears store that is in fact a discount grocer....
Yes!!! I’ve loved this since I was young, exciting to see my favorite YT channel getting into it as well :D
Your adorable, Emmy! Your so easily excited and it makes my heart happy! My husband and I love watching you!
Hello 👋 how are you doing
I love the acai blueberry pomegranate from the vitamin water

Hello 👋 how are you doing
Love coming back to rewatch your videos, gives me a chance to like any I missed. Love you and your channel, stay the wonderful human you are ❤❤
Thank you!
Emmy, you are the best!! What a great project to do with kids.
Powerade Zero is superior to Gatorade if artificial sweeteners don’t bother you.
when you make videos like this I always think you should be wearing a lab coat with cute geeky glasses :)
Hello 👋 how are you doing
That snort made me laugh harder than necessary 😂❤️ I love your videos!
This was really interesting. A few years ago I found a recipe on Pinterest called "Avocado Crab Roll with Soy Sauce "Caviar" and that is how they made the "caviar"!! Now you really make me want to try it!
Gorgeous t-shirt. I'm a fat kid so food science is a slam dunk!!!!!
Lmao I’ve never related to something more
calamitasCorvus Ear more food = More fat.
Loooooove your T-shirt! We haven't see Winston for a while...
mashalena who’s Winston?
Esther Clara When she eats certain foods that leaves crumbs near her lips she calls them Winstons
I’ve watched all your videos and the mre ones are my fav ❤️ I hope you do more 😊
Emmy, your excitement when things work is the BEST 💕😀
Hello 👋 how are you doing
Winston!
Gahh I was hoping you'd pop one of them or squeeze one so that we could see the texture. Was it just like jello? Firmer? Softer?
히유히유 I’m curious too! If it pops like the ones they have at frozen yogurt places then I won’t like it
Love it! Any/all of the ideas you listed I would love to see!
i have wanted to eat orbeez for years, thank you, Emmy. I now know how i'm spending my summer...
I find those electrolyte drinks to be very salty (and yes, I know they contain salts to replenish what you sweat out after working out or working hard), don't like them, but I do like Mountain Dew, at least the UK version that is (slightly altered recipe, and no Sodium Benzoate)... :)
If you are low on electrolytes, the drinks taste sweet, but if you don't need the extra electrolytes, than they will taste salty. Try it some time after a long run or something like that, and you might find that you like the taste when you actually need what it's for vs just using it as a beverage. Perhaps even try tasting some of the same flavor before and after some hard work or exercise to see for yourself.
PS. sorrynotsorry for commenting on your year old comment, but just wanted to give you that little bit of information
Aww man, I love Vitamin Water lol
Also I need a Winston shirt! I just got a new job so maybe I’ll congratulate myself with a gift ;p
Congrats on the new job. 👏
emmymadeinjapan thank you! :D
i love how you get so excited!!! its so adorable! I ❤💛💚💙💜 balls!!
This looks like such fun! Loved how you got all excited about it lol also, loved the snort lol 💓
Hello 👋 how are you doing
Omg blue balls....why Emmy XD
Vicky Vien 11:52
Right?! I think she's obsessed! LOL
Omg! The more I watch that part, the more her delivery kills me! 😃
So...I could totally make boba like this?
I think in terms of both size and texture this recipe is more like tapioca. Boba on the other hand, are larger and have a chewy texture. Here's a boba recipe video I did about awhile back: bit.ly/bobarecipe.
emmymadeinjapan aren't boba just tapioca?
I would love to see more of this!
Great video
I really enjoy these videos, the science ones are so interesting and educational!!!
Vitamin Water is my vice.
Molly Fanton yikes!
I used to drink Vitamin Water all the time (fruit punch & dragonfruit were my fave), until I realized it was basically just sugary crap with an itty bit of vitamins. It didn't help that Coca-cola's lawyers called all of us consumers dumb for thinking Vitamin Water was healthy 🤨
Revive was one of my hangover cures for the longest time!
Emmy, so personable, so wonderful of a presentation presence!! I LOVED how you did this, and even when something went wrong, you just went with it! I will be looking at more of your videos soon!

KenThe Kemmist How about reading the description box sometimes..
Fun fact! Orange juice is actually the third ingredient in mountain dew so I'm guessing that's part of the reason it is the color that it is
Your hair is great!! Appreciate the video, very clever to use juices and sodas.
I love popping boba! 😍
