    I've been curious about this route up and have passed the offshoot trail a few times in the past. Thanks for another great trail review video.

    Great video. We hiked this yesterday in quite a bit of rain. This was Sam's favorite route up. We refer to it as "Sam's shortcut"

    I've summitted Baldy 3 or 4 times, and it was my least favorite mountain in the area although the approach on the Ski Hut trail is nice)! Very barren and usually mobbed! I liked Ontario, Cucamonga (especially before the fires of the early '90s), and Timber Mountains much better!

    There are many ways to Baldy Peak, I like this way up and do these 3 peaks: Harwood, Baldy, West Baldy, then down via Skihut (Baldy Bowl trail).

    I love how things all over the country have similar names. We have a devils backbone that’s very popular in the Shawnee National Forest. I’d imagine it all came from Native American legends. Beautiful area, love your video!

      Right? Funny thing I learned today is how many mountains/peaks are named “Sugarloaf.” There are at least 3 in So Cal alone and way more in other states/countries.

    Great video as usual! And sufferfest is right. I've done this same hike about half a dozen times (and usually add in West Baldy for our lunch break doing a double tap of Baldy) and boy is Register Ridge a steep one. Too steep to ever want to come down it. Always take either the Ski Hut trail down or Backbone trail to the Notch then down the fire road back to Manker Flat.

    I’ve done RR several times. Outside of mountaineering up the bowl in the winter it’s my favorite route up Baldy. Usually you’ll see few people and it can be done in 3 hours or so (i think my best time round trip is 3:20) but the point is it’s very direct and only 6.8 miles or so. Great to see you finally do this route up Baldy.

    6:20 its super fun and easy to climb up that. pretty much just like going up stairs. dont need any upperbody.

    It's my favorite way up to Baldy (Did it first time though, because YOLO). Went down Baldy Bowl and fell 3x in the sand.
    I think someone recently had to get evacuated from RR due to a fall. I'm not sure if they were coming up or down, but I bought nano spikes to help with the traction because it is indeed very steep

      Yea I've gone down it with poles once and it was a big mess. Going up is much easier, with easier being relative.

    Yes does look steep, when it looks steep on video you can be sure it is steep. Think I would opt to pass on the adventure of going down that.

    Have you done wrightwood to San Antonio ? Some level 3 (barely) and some scrambles but extremely fun

      I have but haven't gotten a guide up yet. On the list. It's a tough one!

    Hi, me and my friends have done this hike before and it's definitely steep. No we are planning to do San Gorgonio via Vivian Creek. So, which is the hardest one from these two hikes? Thank you.

    Nice hike. I've done Bear Canyon, Ski Hut and Notch/Devil's backbone routes, so I may give this one a go next time. Have you ever hiked to Baldy from Wrightwood via Pine/Dawson?

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  2 роки тому +1

      I have and it's pretty tough - might get a guide up for it before the winter but otherwise next summer for sure - not an easy trail

    Have you gone down the Mt San Antonio water fall side when descending Baldy? We were at the waterfall and saw some guys taking the waterfall side down. Wasn’t sure if there is a trail for that, it looked sketch tho

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  2 роки тому +1

      Never did that, always looked too sketch to me. At some point I would like to explore the canyon above the falls, coming down the drainage by the Ski Hut. But not expecting any trails there.
