    Did the "9 peaks" trail...I was about 12. We made the San Gorgonio summit , and then camped off toward the other end of the range, where we were supposed to be picked up after two more days. That night, the drought ended, and we got about 2 feet of snow. The rest of the trip was slogging up a peak, and tobogganing down the other side. No one dropped out, though a few of us got frostbitten. (Me),

      Oh man, yea, it's a whole other ballgame in the snow. I used to do much more winter hiking when I was younger but now head to the desert when the snow hits.

    Backpacked from Poop Out Hill parking area (now you hike to there) to Dry Lake - Summit - Dollar Lake back in the day. We started late (Friday after school) so it got dark and we slept along the trailside well below Dry Lake. Next day, hiked from there to Dry Lake to the summit and down to Dollar Lake. We were young strong kids in our late teens living at sea level so it was pretty tough going but great. Also hiked it when a younger kid staying at YMCA Camp Osceola near Jenks Lake. Back then I only knew it as Mt Grayback.
    Gotta admit that it looks a lot different after the fire. The trail from the San Gorgonio Wilderness sign used to be really shaded.

      Hi Osceola, this is Camp JCA. Back in the 60's-70's, when there were 22 organization camps in Barton Flats, we used to hike from Poop Out - Slushy Meadows - Dollar Lake - Saddle, turn left and hit Greyback with 100 campers, 20 staff, all in one day from 6am to 6pm. Those were the days, my friend!

    You didn't show the first 200+ yards which are quite steep and slippery. Maybe you were concentrating only on the mountain but the first mile has some nice views as well. The part of the cabin hidden from the trail has been used as a toilet for many hikers. The stench can be overpowering.

    Good morning Cris, I hope you had a nice weekend. Thank you for another great video. Question, for running which route South Fork or Vivian Creek would you suggest going up to the San Gorgonio summit? I think the Fish Creek one was the route you mentioned you have to drive on a dirt road for 7 to 8 miles, I don’t have the car for that, but when I do go with a friend that has it off-road vehicle, I’d like to do that. Route to the summit as well. Thank you kindlyfor your insight and great content and experience.

    Hoping to do this hike this weekend assuming the Forest Closure is lifted on the 17th as currently scheduled...fingers crossed! Any recent updates on water sources along the trail? Planning to camp 1 night at Dry Lake.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  3 роки тому

      Haven't been there in a month or so, not sure of the status. I would go to the SGWA forums and ask. Maybe a ranger has been around. Dry Lake is great but is def all dry now. You might just want to bring all the water that you need.
