    Idk if this is playing or not but small suggestion. Inside your port put a dowel peg or some sort of brace. I find on these types of layouts having the port so wide leaves the ability for the port to flex when playing. Especially with the amount of cone area you have with 18’s more air flow makes more port velocity causing a chuffing or a loud vibration noise that down the road can beat up the wood or especially mdf. If this happens in the future I’d start there

    • @blakebaertlein8211
      @blakebaertlein8211  2 роки тому

      Definitely couldn’t hurt, that’s why I added the bracing on the inside. If I was running a bit higher power 18s I think that definitely would be a necessary addition. Chuffing shouldn’t be an issue, I would assume the port area recommends by Skar are made to account for the max air velocity created by the sub.

    • @tidobass6048
      @tidobass6048 2 роки тому

      I’ve had a set of evl 15’s on 8k for an extended period of time and personally had an experience with said issue. And I don’t mean the brace on the wall you put in I mean at the end of the port opening inside the box

      Dude I literally have the same setup! Except not really lol. I got a single evl 18 d2 wired to 1 ohm on a SIA 2500! In a 4.25 cb in sported box with a 43in port with about 55sq in area. In my Subaru Forester, with foam and sound deadening mat as well. Sounds great for now but will double up the sub and amp in the future with a new box obviously!:) but still kinda crazy you got the same setup except a 3500 amp. But it should sound great! I love how the amp doesn’t drop a lot of wattage which box rise! The alps sure are power hungry! Even with the vent fan it still gets hot. Haven’t finished your video yet but hope you get your wiring and battery upgraded! What did you tune your box to? Looks like a short port? What’s the are of the port?

      I made the plans for the box based on how everything fit in my car, I dont have the plans anymore but I do know the box is 9ft^3 ported, box is tunned for 31hz, and 111in^2 for the port area. These are all based on the doubling the recommmended box spec on skars website.👍🏼

      I have a 400 amp high output alternator along with the 3 batteries. Double runs of 0 gauge and Double 0 gauge big three for my set up currently. I could use even more but it holds up for now👍🏼.

    Skar is always appealing to noobs. You'll upgrade to sundown soon put some SA v2 in there.

      @blakebaertlein8211  2 роки тому +1

      Sundown subs rock! Unfortunately not everyone has money for that, I paid for my subs by donating plasma🤷🏽‍♂️.

    • @reedstemen
      @reedstemen Рік тому +1

      Sundown is excellent, BUT you’re talking down and asking Blake to spend $1,000 on the pair of SA’s instead of $560 on these EVL’s for what? That would give him 2000 watts RMS instead of 2,500, 19mm xmax instead of 23.5, 1/4” smaller voicecoils. The cones and cap might be stiffer and slightly better assembly, but is that really worth another $440?

  • @pavelbaisov6707
    @pavelbaisov6707 10 місяців тому

    Hello, can you write the full size of the box and port??? is it suitable for two sundown audio x18 v1???

    • @blakebaertlein8211
      @blakebaertlein8211  6 місяців тому

      Sorry for the late response I don’t have all the specs anymore, but for your build gather the recommended airspace for a ported enclosure, double it, find the port square area for each sub, double it. Create a box that has the total air space that fits in your vehicle. Then you can select your tuning frequency for the box and use online software to calculate the port length. You’ll probably want triple baffle on the panel you mount your subs. And you can’t have too much bracing. Lastly if you want to be very precise, increase your box volume to account for the space taken up by the bracing and the subs if you don’t run then inverted like mine. Hope this helps.
