  • How to remove and clean the integrated power distribution fuse box module under the hood. Over time, being exposed to moisture and with age, the fuse box can develop corrosion which leads to many different electrical issues. After cleaning the TIPM, this solved my battery drain issue. #dodgeram #diy

    Tools/Supplies Needed:
    -10mm socket or wrench
    -14mm socket or wrench
    -ratchet
    -small pry tool
    -electronic cleaners and protectants
    Procedure:
The first thing we need to do is disconnect the battery. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal is only required, use a 10mm wrench or socket and ratchet. Removing the main power supply on the outside of the fuse box. This is held on by a 14mm nut.
Flip up the fuse box, this is fairly easy to work with. Using a small pry tool, you’ll have two snap clips, one on each side. Use the pry tool to pull out the tabs, the fuse box has a hinge on the bottom, pull the top out towards the engine.
Using the small pry tool again, you’ll need to push the red flip forward and this will allow you to flip up the white levers to remove each of the electrical connectors. For the connectors on the side, there is a tab that needs to be depressed, then pulling the connection straight off. When done, then lift out the fuse box.
For opening up the fuse box. Removing all the fuses, pliers can be used, just make sure you don’t damage them. Remove the 5 T20 torx screws. Using a standard screwdriver, pry around the outer edge to disconnect the clips and help the inner cap out. Take your time, it can wedge preventing the opposite side from disconnecting. After that is removing the circuit board, using the standard screwdriver, pry up the main power supply terminal and then lift out the circuit board. You can also assist it out by pressing on the plug connections on the rear of the assembly.
Inspect for any corrosion, first is cleaning with a brush. For this I am using DeoxIT’s gold kit, it comes with the cleaning tools, corrosion remover, and protectant. First using the supplied round brush, clean the terminals of any debris.
On the terminals which are still enclosed with the plastic casing, use DeoxIt’s D5 spray. This will dissolve any corrosion, depending on the severity, you may need more than one application. The thinner solution allows for flushing action to get into those tight places.
As for the exposed terminals, back to the DeoxIT gold kit, using the D100L and the supplied brush, apply it to the rest of the terminals. Again if there is extreme corrosion, make one application, let it sit for some time, clean away the corrosion, and apply more as needed.
When everything is finalized, apply a layer of G100L to the terminals as a layer of protection. Mine was fairly clean, other than one broken terminal which I’ll show you in a moment. When done, wipe off the access solution using the clothes from the DeoxIt Gold Kit. Assemble in reverse of removal. Install the circuit board back in the bottom portion of the case. Take your time and make sure all those terminals are aligning with their holes.
Next is installing the cover, snap it back into place. Again make sure those terminals are aligning with their holes, do not bend or break any of them. Install the torx screws and tighten. Don’t overtighten them as this is only plastic. Finally reinstall the fuses. Their orientation doesn’t matter, however, make sure they are in their correction locations.
Going back over to the truck, spray each of the electrical connectors with DeoxIt’s D5 solution, this will flush out any dirt and corrosion. If corrosion is excessive, more than one application may be needed. Then allow it to sit for a couple of hours so the solution can dry.
Install the module in reverse of removal. While my main power terminal was clean, these can corrode too so I applied some of DeoxIt’s battery cleaner and protectant as preventative maintenance. Then install the terminal and tighten. Then reconnect the battery.

My turn signals would occasionally stop working for no apparent reason and would only work after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery for my 2007 dodge caliber, so I took out the POS TIPM, found a few of the pins had some green corrosion, sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner until the green was gone (let it dry of course) and so far ZERO ISSUES.
Thanks to your video I was able to remove the connectors without breaking them and do a good cleaning. (Edit, there appeared to be no corrosion on the circuit board so I didn't take it apart further then the top cover and fuses)

The starter circuit I went to auto part store had starter tested it tested bad or so they told me but I grew up in a junk yard so I went back home I just came out of hospital with heart surgery so I test starter with jumper cables and 10gauge wire. Hooked to main terminal of starter + then grounded the starter with jumper cables. Touched 12+to starter to solenoid on the starter it bench tested fine. Next I simply reinstalled started (I just had heart surgery so I only have one had to work with but it my hospital ride)
Next simple remove connector from starter solenoid went to Napa or any auto parts store (parts needed one electrical I ring connector to fit on starter main terminal 12+ 6ft gray 12 gauge wire with a gray vinyl jacket and inline fuse with a 10 amp fuse I hooked it to the 12 volt big terminal on the starter after I took the battery loose always take the battery loose first unbolted the terminal put the iring under there with the wire on it with the fuse on that side I ran it up to the driver's cabin on the inside I looped it through my clutch switch cuz I have a standard transmission and hooked it to my push button switch the black wire went back to the solenoid on the starter which I used a red butt connector crimp it halfway shut and pushed it on the terminal I coded everything with liquid tape and electrical tape to keep the moisture out which the manufacturer should do but they do not push the clutch down turn the key on to the ignition come on and I push the starter switch button and the POS started take the space shuttle out of your cars guys we're not going to be flying in outer space anytime soon I hope this helps some of you poor guys because I was having a tough time in one hand after being in the hospital thank you for listening to my nonsense I have others if you need them like how to get rid of those body control modules for the rear in the front the 1500 a piece

The TIPM looks slightly different on my 2005 Ram 1500 where the main power is at the end furthest from the fender, but it has the main power connection, and it is corroded. I am having little success getting that nut loose. I am soaking it in PB Blaster, but there is not much holding it except the plastic case of the TIPM and the way it is connected to the circuit board it connects to so it isn't like I can put a huge amount to force on it. It is surrounded by plastic, so heat is not an option. Any suggestions other than continuing to soak it in penetrating oil in hopes it will eventually make its way in enough to get it broken free?

No problem and thank you! It's quite possible, the TIPM can cause quite a few issues on these trucks. You would need to look at a wiring diagram in order to determine where all the circuits are tied in. However I would be surprised if they just wanted to throw parts at it either. If they have the work written up as a TIPM replacement, clean it yourself instead. As mentioned in my video, if you do find a faulty pin which is an option equipped on your vehicle, have someone who does electrics work replace it. It will be by far cheaper than the replacement, I believe the TIPM alone is around $600.

Hope this doesn't cost me a fortune

Did you find out the problem with your truck?

@@fabpie6356 i ignored the problem and it went away. If it comes back, I'll probably pull the wiper assembly apart and clean the park contact

Hey man. I did this and somehow the anti theft activated. truck did run for two seconds then shut off. Did it 3 times now it wont even fire. How do I reset the anti theft. I have looked online and have tried with everything with almost no help.

Is there a red light flashing on the dash, is it the original key, do you have an aftermarket alarm system?

My truck wouldn't start so I cut the starter circuit out of this over engineered thing lol. Simple $12 fix .!

Yeah this truck has too many electronics for my liking. Manufacturers really like making things super complicated for no reason.

Good video 👍. Have you ever had problems with the electronic throttle control on your dodge? I have a 06 ram amd when I hit a bump hard enough I lose throttle control and the red lightning bolt light comes on the dash.

Thank you! No issues yet. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Next I would check any connectors for corrosion.
