- You all want to know how doctor mom Jones invests in me-time...well...this is not it.
$60 is a lot of money to throw towards a Dead Sea mineral swimming lesson.
just trying to pay off my med school loans over here
Support the cause by buying a "SCIENCE IS NOT FKN OFFENSIVE" shirt...
okay, it's a bit less vile than that.
Here: teespring.com/science-is-not-o...
Either way...I won't be spending money to do THIS in the future.
But I still like super soft tee-shirts.
Go team.

As someone who struggles with sensory overload (especially auditory) having access to these tanks is awesome. It is so relaxing to take away all the things that overwhelm my brain for all the waking hours of the day and just be able to relax.
My wife tried it and wasn't a fan, but I'm hooked. I've tried yoga, massage, acupuncture, meditation, but floating is the only thing that seems to work for me as far as relaxing. My place has a discounted rate for those with relevant medical issues, so it's relatively affordable.
I'm so happy to hear you found something that worked!
I have been watching you for a while, but I had literally no idea that your name is Danielle.
When she said her name was on the locker I was half expecting to see mama doctor Jones written!
Same! The I freaked when I realized we have the same name!
Always thought she looked like a “Jenna”
Here we thought it was Mama Doc, which would have been a little awkward in grade school!
I love going to the float tank. As a chronic pain patient it does reduce my pain. Also, it did take me multiple times to get to a place where I could truly get relaxed and shut my brain off. Now I mostly sleep in it and wake up in less pain.
I suffer from pain all the time. Does it really help. My neck is where I have the most. Wonder if the water would make it feel more supported
@@bethgramkow7865 For me it does make a big difference. My neck is very flexible, so I have to have support under it or it does make the pain worse. Overall, my muscles are much more relaxed after a session.
Beth Gramkow it really helps. When you float you don’t put any pressure at all on your joints and it increases blood flow to where you have injuries and speeds up healing. I use it for my chronic back pain and always feel better after. Also, my hands and feet tend to get cold easily but I notice my circulation is great after and both hands and feet stay warm for a while after. Wish I could afford doing more than the occasional session..
Did it help? I am a chronic pain sufferer and I need some relief

I love these sensory deprivation tanks. I use one every month and it is hands down the most relaxing 60 min I get in a month.
mosingbubble: Thats awesome, go you for getting over your fears and benefitting from me time.
Your hyperbolic nature about this is so funny... I would be so freaking skeptical too
My first float I panicked too.. being faced with you and your thoughts, no interruptions, can be terrifying and overwhelming. When I stopped trying to control my thoughts and just focused on slow deep breaths I finally relaxed. There's a trick to giving yourself permission to let go and just be. Kudos for trying it :)
I was laughing out loud during your commentary. So, so funny! I really enjoy all of your videos!
I totally believed the "hair down the drain" story for a hot second, hahaha
Wanthappend
I did my first float last month and I was the same way. I couldn't shut my brain down, I just wanted to get out, I was uncomfortable, my neck hurt. I did my second one today and it went a lot smoother. I was able to unwind a bit more. I brought a pool noodle with me and used it for my neck. I would say to try it again.
most float places offer the little 'head halo' floating thing and ive found that if I use that my neck relaxes better.
I've tried this a couple times, it was hard the first time but much easier to relax the second time. The place I went gives you a little floating light ball you can use if the dark is too much, I found it helped me not be so panic-y
😅😅😅 A boyfriend gave me a floatation tank gift experience years ago.... Yeah thanks sweetie, I always liked the idea of an hour of hyperventilating inside a coffin filling with water....... *shudder*
Annika Walsh: Lol... how you see yourself..... how your BF sees you!!
@@brilliantbutblue haha, you're so right 😅
I have never seen one of those places before! Good for you for trying out something new! So many people won’t and you never know what you’re missing out on!! Much love!!! 💗💗💗💗
Your sense of humor brightened my day!
My husband actually suggested we look into this for my severe back pain during my pregnancy (I'm nearly 9 months). Apparently it can really help.
It is awesome! You just have to let go and relax.

Lady checking is right-second and third time was much more relaxing. I always do mine after a workout in the evening/once every 3 months to destress. Sleep afterward is insanely awesome!
I have ASD and the idea of a period of sensory depredation sounds like heaven to me. I don't think I could turn my brain off though and I'm claustrophobic.
I LOVE doing floats. They help my ADHD and (recently cropped up) anxiety. The beauty of these things is that there are things I'm sure you do to relax that would do the opposite for me! The petroleum jelly for your cuts is so that they don't sting, burn, and generally distract you for 20 minutes of your time.
Claustrophobic and have serious issues with the dark and water in the dark, sooooooooo no thank you, my anxiety went up just watching it. 😋
Same... it sounds like a nightmare!! 😱
Same!
Me too, not liking like the look of that.
SAME
It "reactivated" my fear of the dark when I was a child! It didnt last long, like a few days but still. I dont think I would do one again unless I had someone with me lol
Thank you for this. My brain seems to just go, go, go like yours so it is awesome to see how you felt about it.
Crystal Stemberger ive done a few floats and the place I went to had guided meditations, which definitely helped!
My breathing also became really loud (to me) when I tried it without the meditation.
We have a small, in ground pool in our backyard in a rural community in AZ. There are no street lights in our neighborhood so it gets really dark at night. It's great for star gazing by the way, but my favorite is to lie on my back and float - and have my hubby turn off the back yard flood light after I am safely in the water. I have never relaxed that well - ever. Just my chubby body on the water, darkness and silence all around. I float so well that I don't need any pool noodles or other devices and have actually dozed off! It is especially breathtaking when there are lots of stars. One night I had a surprise visitor when one of our local bats did a "touch and go" on my head! I think he swooped in for a sip of water and he was as surprised as I was. It is hard to get comfortable anywhere with my multiple orthopedic issues and fibromyalgia. I spend my days in a chair in my craft room, my adjustable bed, or my electric wheelchair. It is painful to stand and walk for longer than 2 or 3 minutes, so total relaxation and no pressure points are heaven on earth.
Not gonna lie, I stared at the egg pod thing and could only think about how cool it would be to have that, but with a bed inside instead of a pool. And then I thought even more and imagined doctors and medical staff sleeping in this nice and quiet egg bed and "hatching" after naps. I can't stop giggling.
My float place offers a tiny pool noodle for people to place under their necks. It definitely is easier the second time.
A must
You’re so hilarious 😂 thanks for the entertainment. At least you didn’t sink! 😅
Just did this for Mother’s Day. I appreciate my hubby for doing this for me but it smelled like potatoes and I just wanted to get out 😐 it made my skin soft though and helped my back pain a little
Woah. Holdup. They make converse with stretchy backs now?! Game changer!
OH EM GEEEEE!!!! I love float tanks! My favorite "me time" way to spoil myself. The best thing to do is go in with an open mind and ready for relaxation.
Hi Dr. Jones, I was wondering if you can make a video about miscarriage. I had a miscarriage November 2017 and I had no clue what was going to happen when my OB informed me that i was having a miscarriage. I decided to go the natural way and oh boy was it traumatic. I ended up in the ER due to heavy bleeding, huge blood clots, and horrific cramps my doctor had told me it was just going to be like a really bad period and it was nothing like it. It was so traumatic for me that i decided to hold off on getting pregnant, I want another baby but I just don’t feel ready that night ER was horrible. When I was going through this I couldn’t find much in UA-cam about it but maybe if you put a video out there about what to expect it might be helpful to someone :)
Rebeca V I wish the way for you! ❤️ You’ll have a little rainbow baby 🌈 God bless you.
if you want to try for a baby maybe talk to a therapist to process the trauma it could help but do it at your own pace iv never been through a miscarriage and I understand that its traumatic but just know that everything will be ok and I hope you have the baby you have always wanted
I'm so sorry for your loss...God bless you and your family.
Jenna Kutcher talks a lot about miscarriage, infertility and the hopes of getting pregnant. She shared a lot about her miscarriages and has now a beautiful daughter.
I'm so sorry you went through that ♡ My mom had a miscarriage before having me, so it's definitely something that makes me nervous when I think about starting my family. I can't imagine your pain. I hope in time you're able to process your trauma and feel ready to go through pregnancy again to have the baby you're wanting.
I went for my first float last weekend and I absolutely loved it. I tossed around at first but when I got relaxed it was amazing. I have now scheduled for the next 4 weekends and 90 min. You have to atleast go twice to get any benefit
I have always enjoyed just floating in a warm (not hot) hottub with the jets off. So relaxing to just breathe and listen t the birds
I've only done this once before and I loved it immediately. Current 5 months pregnant, and this video reminded me to book a session!
I have to say, floating has been life changing for me and I would go every day if I could.
I think the hidden reason people push against floating is the silence of the mind.. it's scary to simply be with yourself fully. Few ever do.
I would argue that it is for everyone...
It took a few tries to really get into the relaxed state, but that stillness in the mind and body is ecstasy.
I totally agree ! People like to live in denial so this would be a very hard thing for those types to do. Just float, just relax and stop being concerned with anything else 💞
Honestly, kinda seems like the effectiveness of it depends on how you process information, and if you’re focusing on anything while you’re in there
going through and watching all your videos, i love how funny you are lolll "momentary lapse of judgement.."
I’m glad you are experimenting with relaxation ideas
Huh, I kind of want to try that now. I love warm baths, easily get overstimulated, and small spaces feel very comforting to me for some reason, so those tanks seem nice. Also, someone mentioned it helps with pain and I'm constantly hurting somewhere, especially now that I'm pregnant. On another note, your commentary is gold!
I love floating. Although doing it several times, you learn what to do and what not to do. Usually there’s some sort of pool noodle for your neck, cause I had issues with that.
And definitely never go when you’re cramping or hungry. Just seemed to amplify that for me.
Also, it’s kinda hard to sink in them. There’s about 900 pounds of epsom salt in there!
The tanks here were big enough that even a claustrophobic person wouldn’t be too bothered
Mama Doctor Jones I was anxious going in because I pictured it being small pods like where you went. But, it was actually a really large tank you went into so it was actually pretty cool. 😊
Please give it another try ! It took me a two floats to get used to the feeling and achieve complete relaxation. I experience chronic pain , and have adhd. So learning to relax was a uphill battle I am glad I gave it a second chance. My first float was much like yours mind running, trying to gauge the time, feeling unsettled. I can now hit deep meditation even fall asleep in the pod. When I emerge I’m pain free and feel relaxed. The results last for hours if I go for the late evening float I have the best sleep ever. It is like combining yoga ,massage, and a long bath in one.
Ur so funny! I love ur sense of humor! That does look very neat like a little room but geez I don’t think I’d like to be in the dark lol I’d want the blue light on 😆 lol I woulda laid there and made my grocery list in my mind, went through everything I need to do for the week... etc ..all kinds of things lol
Gosh! You CRACk me up! I love your vlogs. You filming has improved, as well.
Oh my god your commentary before and during the float 😂😂😂 I am heaving 😂
I can't shut my brain off either when I go in so I listen to either music or an audiobook and it makes it so much more relaxing.
So wanna try this!! It's a shame there aren't many places to do this in England 🇬🇧 xx
I've done a float spa before... I felt the same as you. Weird space womb was the general feeling I had. I'd so much rather get a massage for relaxation me time.
By far my favorite video you have 😂😂 too funny!
I do it on Fridays after a long hard week.... love it. But it took me about 3 times before I really loved it
I've done this and I enjoyed it! The second time I did it was definetly better I will say, and I highly suggest trying it at the end of a really busy day! That's when you need it and when it's easiest to relax and just not think about anything. I found myself thinking about alot of things the first time and wanting to move my arms and legs around cuz I was getting bored but the second time was much better because I was super exhausted and I was in an almost dreamlike state. I definetly didnt fall asleep but it felt like that stage between wake and sleep where you are somewhat dreaming but still aware of what's going on. I would give it at least one more shot and then decide what you think! I'll be honest, I've only been 3 times but I would consider going back! And did your place have a pillow for your neck? I found that helped me relax my neck alot easier. Without it I could relax okay the second time but I actually got so relaxed my head went back too far and I ended up getting some salt water in my eyes which hurt!!
I feel like this is exactly how I would feel in there 😂 panic, panic, panic
I imagine this is like extreme mindfulness. I have a hard time with mindfulness because focusing on only one one thing just makes me MORE anxious. It seems like elective small scale solitary confinement. I don't think I would be able to do this. However after I do laps at the gym I will float to let my muscles calm down and that's ok but it's not in a small dark space alone.
Mindfulness = elective small scale solitary confinement
Brilliant. I might have to put that on a t-shirt 😆
@@raraavis7782 Being mindful in an isolation tank yeah lol
Your thoughts while in the tank were hilarious to listen to. Definitely would be me!
OMG! Not many people make me laugh out loud, but you accomplished it! I have been afraid to go try these too....
Some places have a little floaty headrest to help with the neck discomfort!
Also, some people go in there and they listen to audio stuff, or even go in with intent to have time to think about a specific problem or issue and troubleshoot in an environment with no distractions.
20 minutes of meditation clears my head just fine :-)
Danielle is your name! I have terrible anxiety, scared of the dark and claustrophobia so the first time I did a float, I took a trusted friend and experience floater with me. He is also a UA-camr, he does meditations, Jason Stephenson. Anyway, I did not close the lid fully on my first float and it's strange how time does warp while floating. I've been a few times now, mainly after work and I am actually getting more used to just being in the moment. When thoughts pop into my head, I acknowledge them and push them aside. I still leave a tiny light on while in the tank but feel safe to close my eyes. I love floating in any pool, it's such a relaxing feeling. I hope you try to float again some day. You may end up liking it, or it might confirm it's not for you. Thanks for sharing.
I take epsom salt baths at home. Not in a tank.
Your skin and hair gets really soft and your muscles relax. It's good to do it before bedtime 👍😉
In your own bathroom you can put whatever you want to relax, which makes that a plus for me 😉🙏
I have a migraine and an hour floating with no lights, sounds, or smells sounds heavenly right now
That is actually the only thing that would make sense when it comes to using this thing. It is perfect for someone with a migraine! It would be heaven for anyone with a migraine. But otherwise just to relax, that’s just way too much, easier to relax in bed at home
Floating has become a part of my regular healthcare routine. I do it monthly. I have high anxiety and chronic pain and it is the only thing that helps and makes the world just stop for a little while. I almost always fall asleep. The one I go to has the option to float on a larger cabin if you are worried about being claustrophobic. The water literally makes it so that you have to try to drown. It is completely safe. If I could afford to put a tank in my house I absolutely would.
For relaxation, I love the "Elaine Petrone Method" aka the Miracle Ball Method. Which reminds me... I really need to get "back on the ball". ☺
This is how your mind owns you or can own you if you let it
I feel that way about just laying down and relaxing sometimes lol my anxiety gets me lol
The closest i have been to experience this was, when there was construction close to my bedroom, work the night shift btw, and i had ear plug in and the sound of my heart beat and my respiration was relaxing.
We have open Bassins if you book a 2 person session here in germany. My husband hates it, I love it!
But put earplugs in! Having the salt crinkle in your ear for days is not so much fun. 😂
I prefer just to relax in my bed with the lights off. Doing all of that just to relax, that would stress me out lol
I did the float tank thing. It took me forever to relax. At the place I went to it played relaxing spa music and there was an option to turn on low blue lights or no lights. When I turned the lights off I could not relax and started to get panicky. I turned the lights back on and still took forever to relax. I also had trouble with figuring out how much time passed. I did finally relax at the end though.
It took one time doing this for me to know I wanted a membership. I like going full dark and just floating. It's the best thing ever.
Omg this was one of the funniest things ever 😂😂😂😂
Confined spaces freak me out. Although this looks so calming and seems like a great way escape life for a moment, I just know my anxiety would go from zero to sixty in an instant.
Most places will have lighting options if the darkness is too much. And if you need to, you can leave the pod open.
Floating is a wonderful way to relax! I love it!
And here I am spending most of my sunday being lazy since I was productive last weekend and have a decent cold haha
they told my cousin it takes 4 to 6 times to get someone to actually relax.
That sounds terrible!
I laughed all through this video! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
First couple of times is was a bit scary but I was determined to find a way to escape and decompress. The pods are not for me, nope don't like the coffins..lol. I do float rooms. After the first time (60 min), I started doing 90 minutes because it takes 20 minutes to just relax your mind..its like you have to learn it within yourself..haha. My mind is always going with family tasks, household errands...dinner, groceries, school....ughh! But now I'm hooked, I float once a month for 90 minutes with a monthly membership that is cheaper than paying full price for a 60 minute float. Such a peaceful atmosphere.
I'd be waiting for IT to pop out of nowhere "We ALL FLOAT!!"
This was HILARIOUS. I love you. Oh my goodness.
😂😂😂😂 so funny. Cool video. I would never everrr do something like that though. Sitting inside something dark by myself, ohhh nooooo thx
Its cool u did that.
I've been curious about it.
But now I know I'll never do that.
I'm claustrophobic and I'm horrible terrified of the dark.
So I guess that's not ganna be a thing for me.
But I've seen some ppl who love it.
And some who hate it.
I guess it just depends on who does it.
But it is super cool u did it.😊
You are seriously cracking me up this would so be me in this situation lolol
Definitely give it another shot and I would say that even claustrophobic people can try it because you do NOT have to close the lid. You can leave it open and just turn the light off in the room to simulate the darkness but you can breathe more freely. Most pods have lights you can turn on and off as needed. As for neck strain/pain, most places have a floating halo pillow that you can rest your head on that helps with relaxing your neck.
I’ve really want to try that for so long, imma google if there’s a place in my city
😂WOW😂 poor thing! You were really suffering in there huh? Book on the beach kinda gal?
I love floating. The first time I was afraid I'd panic and some people do, but personally I find it incredibly relaxing.
Hahahahaha I would have felt the exact same way😂😂😂 and my hair washing is about to the extent of yours except I’m a teacher of littles and only have 2 toddlers at home🤷🏼♀️
Omg. That hunger games portal comment 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 omg you got me!!!!!
Interesting point about being claustrophobic because I get sick and nauseous in MRI machines or in certain rooms. However since that feeling is related to visual stimulation I think I'll be okay with this...
Lol i just watched the big bang episode w these!! 😁
I could NEVER do that of my own free will n not being paid a ton of money lol I dont even sleep w.o sound nevermind being closed in- u can call it a cute dinosaur egg if u like but its a water filled coffin if u ask me lol no way! 😁
Great job sticking it out for us!! 👍👍
I loooooove float tanks. They have ones that are basically a float room. So it isnt so enclosed. I was very nervous the first time around. But the fact i had a float room, made me less anxious. I have always done the float room. I did the egg/tank once. But i didnt care for it.
Lol Scrolling through your older videos and just saw this.. I must say this actually looks like heaven to me.. I have sensory anxiety issues to loud noises and have to have complete dark and quiet to sleep, I think I've got some sort of undiagnosed mild autism along with other birth defects I was born with that have probably made my brain a bit quirky (hydrocephalus and Chiari malformation if you are curious and yes Spina Bifida)..
You are already a naturally mindful person, or it seems that way, you probably have a lot of me-time moments throughout your day and you dont even know you're doing it!
You are seriously very funny 😂😂
I would freaking love this! I'm always going going going & I'd love to do nothing, hear nothing. An hour may not be a long enough time.
I wanted to try this since knowing this exists - so my boyfriend got this as a birthday gift. the place we went to didn‘t have closed tanks but rather pools big enough to fit to people. he had a lot of fun - I legit got sea sick! turns out, even if your other senses are „deprived“ your inner ear still notices your movement in the pool (at least mine is that sensitive). The nausea got so bad I had to get out of the pool and the private room it was in to calm down and allow my bf to enjoy it. I really have no desire to repeat that experience, way too close to a panic attack!
Could you do packing video of your pump bag? I just watched your video with tips for pumping at work, and wondered what your work bag looks like and how everything that you put in there fits? I will be student teaching in the fall and will need to pump, trying to find a good bag. Thank you!
I love this video!!! I would be nervous too
Loved your Louboutins! LOL
I have been wanting to try this!!!!
As a doctor, you should understand the importance of self care. Especially with the work you do. I can understand this is not for everyone but make sure you take time for you.
My float place doesn't have pods. The float is in a room. Highly recommend floats. If you're in South Los Angeles County or Orange County try the Awake Float Lounge in Orange.
