Arguably? Lol He's top 5 all time man. He's Jordan's choice of center and the only player to win in the Jordan era. Not only that, while Jordan had Pippen Hakeem had Kenny smith.
Those classes are priceless. Hakeem is just basketball smart. And he was totally prepared for each game. But what really set him apart was his heart. He basically willed the team to two championships.
It looks like Howard is getting the moves down but doesn't understand what they are about. It's about a series of fakes to get your opponent off balence so you can attack close to the basket or with an open fade away jumper. Shaq had all the moves and did them extremely well, until he found out that he could just bully his way to the basket and score. Now every center since does it the Shaq way - buly ball to the rim. Difference is that Shaq could do both very well.
The thing is bullying only works for very powerful centers like Shaq, even though Shaq could just bully his way in you could tell that he had the footwork, the spin, the hook, he developed his post game well unlike most centers today.
The reason I'm so frustrated with Howard is that he has so much potential that needs to be realized. His athleticism and strength will only help him for 5-6 more seasons if he stays healthy, and that's where he needs the fundamental post moves.
Nah. He would have been gassed. Hakeem was a shell of his former self in his last two or three years. In a single quarter I imagine he could recapture some greatness, but in a full game? I really doubt it (and I mean 11 years ago)
I would love to work with Hakeem on my post game. As a player who plays the PF/C position not many of them can dribble and do fancy crossovers. I play PF and I've been practicing my post game since last summer just by watching this video, when I was at training I remember being in the post and pulling off a dream shake. The defender got beyond confused it was great. Now I mentioned he PF/C position doesn't have that many players that can dribble, the dream shake is the equivalent to a crossover (except it's in the post and can really confuse the defender). Great move to have in your skill set, work on the post proficiency it's a fading art just like the mid range game. (No pun intended AHEEH)
Welp this statement pretty much is false now. Almost all the elite PF/C can dribble the ball full-court, do crossovers and hit 3’s. It’s crazy how much the game has changed since this comment.
damn these are beautiful to watch i'm happy that Hakeem took his time to give back what he has mastered throughout his hall of fame career. i respect him for his unselfishness #keep up the good work hakeem
I AM HONORED TO SAY I WAS ABLE TO WATCH HAKEEM OLAJUWON PLAY GROWING UP. THE SPEED, QUICKNESS, AGILITY AND FINESS WAS AMAZING. THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER SHOOTING CENTER LIKE THIS FOR A LONG TIME.
The reason why Howard hasn't been able to translate anything onto the court is because he didn't practice it enough. Yeah he got lessons from Hakeem but he still needed to practice on it endlessly until it is second nature to him. But he didn't. He expected to get lessons from Hakeem and then just be a great post player afterwards.
It doesn't look like he really got it, either. Hakeem had three basic attacks and all of his other moves depended on the threat of those attacks. Turnaround to the left, hook to the right, and the quick left turn into the slam or layup. You master going all three directions and then you add the other stuff. Dwight only ever really picked up the hook to the center, so he was limited. LeBron can actually do all of that stuff, though it's nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as Hakeem, and he doesn't have the side pieces that Hakeem through in, or at least doesn't have them consistently.
dwight welcome to l.a. LEARNED FROM THE BEST ...A LEGEND KEEP UP THE HARD WORK D12 AND GET THAT BACK WELL SOON... FROM ALL THE LAKEER FANS TY THE GREAT ONE HAKEEM
Jesus, Dwight just didnt have it, but hey, very few did. And there are no two Hakeems. You cant just learn everything, no matter how much you train. People like to criticize Howard for not being serious etc, but if you are a stiff player, whatever you do, you wont be a great scorer. Thats never gonna go away. Ewing for example, also looked stiff as hell, and even he was a savant compared to Dwight's offensive moves. Dwight even in his prime was often getting 5 shots per game, multiple times..... He was amazing defensively but this was quite indicative. Imagine a Kareem or Hakeem or SHAQ or the Admiral getting 5 FGA..... Dwight just didnt have it and its aight. Even with that he was a force to be reckoned with and dragged the Orlando Magic to the finals... Beat a pinnacle LeBron-led Cavs in ECF, and a strong Boston team. I wouldnt blame Dwight for anything. Well, other than not wrapping up with hoes, but thats outside court stuff. People just didnt like his aloof, childish behaviour and a smile bigger than life. Haters and critics were slowly taking their toll. I m so glad he found his team after like 3 teams in 2 years...... This Lakers team is special and Dwight's resurgence has been amazing. He is such a great team player. LeBron takes care of guys like that. And he rewards his leader with selfless play. He deserves the chip this year with the Lakers. One of the greatest comebacks ever. Lessgo baby..... Purple and Gold!
Dwight has no post game. How can you be the biggest and strongest athlete in the league and not be a back to the basket post-player!? He would be unstoppable if he could adopt any of this. And maybe shoot a fucking free throw
Dwights 30 years old but maybe this year with Ty Lawson he might be forced to learn post moves if he still wants to PLAY in the post. Lawson can always just deny him and make him P&R all game which is absolutely devastating still
5:20 Just look how smooth is that spin... this is shooting guard's smoothness! 11 years after retirement, 50-year-old center does something what none of the active NBA centers will ever be able to do. When Dwight repeated this, and Hakeem said "exactly", I almost fell off my chair laughing. It wasn't even close! :) Incredible shape Mr. Olajuwon.
Many of today's greatest players have worked out with Hakeem (Kobe, Carmelo. LeBron, Dwight etc.) This just shows us that the moves that Hakeem used back in his days are now applicable to almost all 5 positions of basketball. He was a fast, strong, and dominant force in the NBA, one that can never be replaced!
People are saying that he never used those moves. That's not entirely true. If you watch his single game highlights from the season after this video was recorded (2010-11), he actually did use many of those moves at the time. He set his career high on that season and it was actually the best scoring season of his career.
Dwight Howard will and always will be my favorite Post man of all time ( does not mean im saying hes better) just the combination of his hardwork, personality, athletisicim, and talent
agreeed.. Wilt pulled down just as many boards, blocked just as many shots....and was a fierce, unprecedented PROLIFIC scoring machine...oh and he led the league in assists one year
@TheFootballFred centers that are under 7 feet are usually considered undersized, just because the height difference can cause shorter centers to be neutralized by taller ones
Agreed, he's a brilliant highlight reel, and he has massive potential, but as a playoff threat against great defensive teams he doesn't have enough weapons to be considered a great player. I think there are definitely a couple of other power forwards that could produce more during crunch time. Pau Gasol, Josh Smith, Nowitzki, Aldridge, Millsap just to name a few.
hakeem one top 5 centers and in my mind top 10 players, no doubt. his post moves, just man. so smooth, not many players are that smooth. dwight and hakeem are different builds, but i think that dwight could definitely improve offensive post game if he gains the work ethic that hakeem had. all the old timers who followed him when he first came to houston said that he couldnt play ball for nothing when he first came. he was just a defensive beast. but through hard work he got the offensive game.
hakeem is a basketball player dwight is an athlete
nah...just a big ass nigga with no skills.
+My name is Earl well said my man
+rambosexy2009 W
rambosexy2009 💀then he wouldnt be in the nba
3 time defensive player of the year and best big man for several years and you are a nobody
Hakeem had the best low post footwork in NBA history
Hakeem can teach, it's up to the players to use it in a game.
Dannie Riel yep, it appears Dwight didn't learn anything :/
@@meachewyeah, still though it’s nice to see Dwight win his first chip.
Hakeem was by far the most technical, skillful big man of all time. So underrated.
Arguably top 10 all time.
Arguably? Lol He's top 5 all time man. He's Jordan's choice of center and the only player to win in the Jordan era. Not only that, while Jordan had Pippen Hakeem had Kenny smith.

"...as soon as you land, you're gone" Nice!
Im watching this video again and again, and these moves are REALLY helpful to me.
How could u dislike this video? Probably the best center of all time teaching the best center in the league some of his past time moves
It looks like Howard is getting the moves down but doesn't understand what they are about. and shaq had balance, footwork, body control, positioning, and fundamentals that players in the league dont have today
The reason I'm so frustrated with Howard is that he has so much potential that needs to be realized. His athleticism and strength will only help him for 5-6 more seasons if he stays healthy, and that's where he needs the fundamental post moves.
Replying to tel you he didn't realize anything
Yol Once lol at least now he’s gotten used to a role on a team that needs him
this was so accurate
Future telling mf
This is beautiful.
I'll never get tired of watching this
Hakeem could school Dwight at age 47. Hell he looks like he could start over some centers today.
+Agent of Chaos hahaha me too
Nah. He would have been gassed. Hakeem was a shell of his former self in his last two or three years. In a single quarter I imagine he could recapture some greatness, but in a full game? I really doubt it (and I mean 11 years ago)

you only need 50,000 dollars a lesson thats it

Man, I'm a sucker for off the glass shots. I love them so much lol
Damnn...Hakeem looks like he could still put up 20 in the NBA today!!!!!!
learned a lot from this video
Wow. Awesome listening to an EASILY top 3 Center of all time (arguably the best) insight on the game.
I AM HONORED TO SAY I WAS ABLE TO WATCH HAKEEM OLAJUWON PLAY GROWING UP. THE SPEED, QUICKNESS, AGILITY AND FINESS WAS AMAZING. THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER SHOOTING CENTER LIKE THIS FOR A LONG TIME.
Hakeem is so slippery, seems like the river passing around stones. Greatest big man ever!
Thx, it's really useful. Unlike other "low post tutorial" on youtube. D.howard doesn't learn it, I will.
Hakeem was the player who's skills made me interested in watching and start playing basketball.
thx for sharing !!
conclusion: Dwight Howard has learned nothing!!!!!!!
FrankW1029 not a damn thing
Thats not the dreams fault because he has helped lebron and he is great in the post
Francois Tarraf
Lebron = an unskilled loser
FrankW1029 I agree he never came back
FrankW1029You said it best,
he doesnt do any of these moves in a game
you got to watch him more
i actually learned from this.. thank you hakeem..
love this........

Royal Ace no Bruh he's a low basketball IQ... he's a dumbass

Man, what I would give for three training days with Hakeem Olajuwon...
Its great to see how young, talented athletes can learn so many things from NBA- hall of famer's
Dwight has no post game. How can you be the biggest and strongest athlete in the league and not be a back to the basket post-player!? He would be unstoppable if he could adopt any of this. And maybe shoot a fucking free throw

top 5 center of all time, and my favorite player.
Damn...every single one of Olajuwon's moves flow flawlessly.
Dwight has huge shoulders
Dwight travels at 5:10
what a great guy!!!! one of the top centre in nba history
wooooow when I watch this, I think Hakeem would own most centers in the league right now
Hakeem waste his time :)
+mynameisclive I believe to remember Dwight paid a decent amount of money for these 3 days, not sure though
I hope he got paid well
as you can see he didnt learn anything smh this was almost 4 years ago and he dont do none of these moves
Cain Beezle Please. Dwight Howard is a horrid post player. Just disgusting.
Hakeem's foot work is so smooth!
Hakeem looks so in shape. Its amazing. Great phisique.

Hakeem is so elegant!! Big Respect Master!!!!!

Hakeem is truly the master of post play... Nobody can compare!
Amen To That
Please come to Houston! You won't regret it, we'll be a championship contender. Especially if we get Josh Smith and/or Deron williams
wow hakeem just amazing, he could still play in the nba
omg hakeems laugh at the end cracks me up every time
