    wow wow wow..... while studying these levels I tried to relate them to my own life and was certainly able to attribute aspects of Level 5 to myself. When I heard you say that I immediately rejoiced. Thank you for sharing your ability to make sense of these concepts that initially seem mind boggling, but after much time spent reflecting, they become (almost) crystal clear. You are able to do something POWERFUL here and help so many people in the process! I test for the first time on Wednesday and have used much of your advice in terms of mindset/mentality (and of course, resources) to prepare. thank you thank you thank you!

    Helpful hint I came up with for levels of assist per each level. If you are familiar with using FIM scores from your level II fieldwork experiences- the levels of assist match the FIM scores with the ACL levels . Example: FIM 4=Min assist & ACL level 4=Min assist, and so on. :)

    Hi Miri,
    Thank you this was very helpful in understanding the levels better and I associated personal things like you did to the levels to better remember them. By knowing broadly what the levels are about like you explained here, do you think we can still have a general understanding without having to know each sublevel like 4.2 etc?

    • @MiriLee
      @MiriLee  7 років тому +1

      Hi Julia! I'm glad you found this video helpful and even happier that you were able to apply it to make your own personal narratives. I found that it's one of the best ways to make the information stick! In keeping with the NBCOT Code of Conduct, I cannot make any conjectures or assumptions about what may or may not be on the exam, or to what extent we should know certain content areas. But here is my personal suggestion. You should learn each level enough to understand it conceptually and apply it clinically using your rationale. The exam is testing your readiness to be an entry level practitioner. While you may not be able to learn and memorize every single bullet point, your understanding of each level should prepare you to be able to make a clinical judgment about what the patient can and cannot do at each level and what intervention may be appropriate and safe. Once you have that strong foundation, you will be able to form a strong inference even when you can't recall all the details for level 4.2. Remember, it's impossible to learn and master every content area, so it's important to learn how to apply everything you learn by developing strong clinical reasoning skills. I hope that helps!

    Hi Miri! I was wondering...I am studying for the COTA exam. Are there pretty much the same questions on the COTA and OT exam?

    • @MiriLee
      @MiriLee  Рік тому

      Hi Shelley! I hope you're doing well and feeling more confident as you prepare for your exam. Since I've never prepared for the COTA exam, I don't have as much insight into all the content areas, but from what I've heard, the formatting of the questions and answer choices are different for the COTA exam. As for the content areas, I believe there is a lot of overlap.

    Hi Miri! I love your videos! They're super helpful. I am wondering if you have a trick to learning the smaller levels of acl (1.2, 1.4, etc.). Thanks so much in advance,

    • @MiriLee
      @MiriLee  6 років тому +2

      Hi Stephanie! Thank you for leaving a comment and connecting with me! I don't have any videos for the more specific levels of ACL. Personally, I focused more on learning the main levels and using my clinical reasoning to deduce what performance may or may not be possible between the main categories. So I didn't memorize each specific levels, rather tried my best to conceptualize the content so that I can truly understand and visualize client's strengths, limitations and assistance needed (particularly related to safety).

I started this channel in December with no expectation other than to share my story and resources with others who may be feeling just as frustrated and lost as I did when I was preparing for the exam. But since then, it has evolved into something so beautiful, meaningful and rewarding and I have been immensely enriched by it. I'm happy to hear you're finding these videos helpful and even more so that you're finding encouragement here. I truly believe that our sense of confidence and passion for our profession is such a huge determining factor when it comes to preparing for and passing the NBCOT exam, so it's great to hear that you're relating to these videos and finding inspiration! I would love to take an opportunity to share more about myself and my background, and will begin to incorporate more personal stories in my videos. Thank you for taking interest, not just in the content of my videos, but in me as a person. I appreciate that, Suzanna. If you haven't already, please join my FB group and connect with me on my FB page for additional resources and tidbit about my personal life.

      @@MiriLee Hey Miri, it’s funny you responded yesterday because my first attempt I had actually failed by only 3 points :/. But today I got my results of my 2nd attempt and I passed by a wide margin, so I went through a similar journey as you and I am so relieved it’s over. Again, thank you for all the help 🙏🏼 you’re amazing

    Hi Miri- thanks so much for these videos! Super helpful as I study for the NBCOT exam. I appreciate the personal study tips and anecdotes that you share. I noticed that the closed captions that UA-cam automatically provides are not always accurate, especially noted for this video. For accessibility for all of our Deaf friends and others who need the CCs, would you consider captioning your videos or checking what UA-cam shows viewers? Just a thought!
