Thanks. Your images of basic parts and internal mechanisms was super helpful. It was excellent teaching - assume nothing. For me this video clarified quite a few internal things, and I've been successfully servicing pools for five years now.Never too late to learn. Many thanks. Australia
Great suggestions. Didn't fix our issue, but we checked everything on your video. As the pump is 15+ years old, it it probably time for a new one. Thank you for information.
Having air bubbles rising from return jets while NOT experiencing water levels dropping frequently can be caused by clogged pump impeller fins. Air bubbles at return jets coupled with a grinding sound or noisier than normal pump sound is another indication impeller inspection is required. The motor/pump will need to be removed and dismantled to proceed. The impeller slots may easily be cleaned with a small wire once accessible. This is also a great time to inspect and replace the shaft seal and other O-rings as a preventative measure which pays dividends by not having issues during the hot summer or on Holiday party weekends. Take pictures of your motor, pump, and filter's stickers that identify manufacturer model, and serial number information. Replacement kits or singles of specified O-rings and seals along with a tube of gasket/ O-ring lube can be per-ordered and have on hand to save $$$ while minimizing downtime and increasing Miller time.
I just subscribed! Where have you been all my 'pool' life? Your illustrations / diagrams in this video are so helpful, especially for novice pool owners like me. Thanks for all the time and effort put into your presentation - excellent content, clarity, pace and very professionally done. Thanks again.
Wish I had seen the low-pressure video about three years ago. After replacing a barely-used salt system and having three experts guess wrong, it turned out that the problem was that I used a phosphate-free dish detergent to clean the cartridge filter. After it sat out in the winter rains, I reinstalled it and it was good as new. A product I seek: my pool refinisher tossed out my old jets and installed fixed jets pointed 30 or 45 degrees upward. Especially with solar heat, it seems preferable for them to point 45 degrees DOWNWARD. I'd love to find something I could glue to these and redirect the water. I confess I have not tested, but doubt they are friction fit, so removing them would be more trouble than it is worth.
Great video, I am experiencing low pressure at moment, can a build up of DE in the pool line reduce the amount of water flowing through the lines and if so is there something I can put in that will dissolve the DE ?
Past few days ive been trying to help fix my in laws pool and These videos have been soo helpful especially with accurate pictures and showing someone actually doing the steps so i dont feel like im breaking something.
Thanks for the video. What if your water pressure or should I say the gallons per minute fluctuate between 57 gallons per minute and 47 gallons per minute even dropping as low as 42 gallons per minute throughout the day. But when you put it in recirculate, you get 70 gallons, per minute consistently?
Thanks for this. Going to try to add more water to the pool. One question- sometimes there is leak at the base of the pump basket . Is that normal. The water appears after the pump is off. Should I be concerned?
Your pool equipment should be air and water-tight; it is not normal to see your pump dripping water. Where exactly is the water coming from on the pump housing? Can you see the water stream from the drain plug hole? Or do you see water more towards the middle or motor section of the pump? Does your pump lose prime when it turns off?
Sorry I am a newbie with pools. Got an inground here. The water is leaking directly below the water basket housing nexy to the pump. The one with lid that says “fill with water before starting pump”. Any way I can send pics?
Very nice video, volume, and pace. If I have relatively low PSI (10), I clean my skimmer baskets almost daily, pump basket at least weekly, rinse my pool filter also weekly, but have low PSI what could be the issue? I don't think the issue is after the pump due to low PSI. The pump was designed for the pool, not moved, no new water features, salt systems, etc installed. Getting green water more often than last year. I added a ionizer, which helped, but still feel the water kind of lower end pressure.
Good nfo, thank you. I still have a problem: pool circulates correctly when manifold is disconnected in jandy DE filter with a small bubble and good circulation. when manifold is connected, the pump pressure won't create a bubble or push water thru the chlorine tablets tube and circulation slows. PSI remain at 20lbs either way. Any ideas (tried all new filters, too)
We have a low pressure on the return jets. Pool was not properly serviced last year. So we took apart and cleaned the DE filter but pressure is still low. Any other suggestions what can be done. Than you!
i have a 4-cartridge filter. 2 suctions coming into the pump, 1 from the skimmer and 1 from the vacuum. When i have the valve only on the skimmer side, i get around 5 psi but when i switch the valve position all the way to vacuum, and the PSI drops down to 0 however it still sucks in water pretty good. Should the filter pressure gauge stay around same psi when i switch from skimmer to vacuum or is 0 psi at vacuum ok?
I was trying to find out what the water should look like when circulating but not areating because I am battling high PH constantly and wonder if the little surface movement when the pump is on high is actually areating thus causing high constant high PH. I have 8 Ph and 130 TA adding acid every day to lower ph. Trying to get the TA down to but it seems to take a lot of acid and if you don't stay on top of testing adding or you run out of acid a day later I'm back to square one. Trying to determine the root cause. Thank you
I purchased a home two years ago and it has a solar heating system on the roof. For the last two years my pool vacuum has worked great with plenty of suction. I'm able to turn the solar system on and of from a control panel. Recently the pool vacuum stopped working when the solar system was on. I entered the pool with the solar system on and the suction connection was very low, not enough power to operate the vacuum. After I turn the solar system off the suction is strong enough to operate the pool vacuum. Can you give me any advice of what to check next? I've checked the filters and catch buckets and they are clean.
Recently replaced a pump that was leaking at shaft seal , could have been fixed just wanted to upgrade an old pump . Shortly after that when I turn the diverted valve from the gas heater to flow 100% into spa, the pump starts to struggle and the pump says cavitation detected . When I open a small amount to flow into pool from that same valve it calms down . Took apart that jaundy valve and found what I can only imagine was a spring and plate from an old check valve that was on an old heater ( this one is about 2 years old ) . Is there something in the jet itself that comes out to flush debris ? Not sure of the brand of the head itself looks like one in the video with just a female thread packing over a ball to change the angle of the jet ?
Thanks - love your videos. I have an issue though that I can't seem to figure out and hope you might know. My Pressure is constantly at 30psi with horrible skimmer suction and jet return. When running the pool without the filter its reading 15psi but flow and suction is great. 1. My filter is like new 2. Only a minor air leak (I believe) as I see small bubbles in the valve. 3. All diverter valves are open (in and out) 4. Pool :15,000/16,000 gallons, pump 1.5hp, filter cartridge w. 90 sqf. Biggest issues is the minimal flow and suction at 30 psi with a new filter in it. Hope you can help or guide me in any direction!
I'm in construction phase and I'm pre equipment but post rough plumbing and failing pressure inspections. It loses about 2-3 psi every 24 hours. My pool company can't seem to find the leak after multiple attempts. There's nothing but pipes. Any ideas?
Very helpful, just replaced two pool pumps with a three HP VS pump, now my jacuzzi jets work but no bubbles why? When two pumps were there we had bubbles
Maybe a line was capped that used to bring air into the system. Was there a pipe that looked like a candy cane or a hole in the deck near the jets? If so, those draw air into the system for the jets. It's also possible that you used to have an air blower and it was removed.
I have a Pentair DE filter, the part where you screw in the air gauge keeps filling up with DE, keeps taking my pressure down to 5 or less. Do you know what would cause this, and how do I fix the problem.
WHEN YOU DO THIS *make a checklist FOR EACH PART OF THE EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE CONNECTED* ( AS WELL AS A POOL BACKLOG JURNAL , *SO YOU CAN BE AWARE WHAT YOU ARE CHECKING OUT AND WHEN* ) go through the EQUIPMENT STEP BY STEP >>>>> *it is important to do so*
I just had a new pump put on ,but my fountains and slide still have low pressure. When I first back wash it , it runs great for about 2 hours than it loses the pressure again. I’ve had a pool man out here four times , he backwashes and says it’s fine . The next day same thing no pressure .
I have cleaned all leaves from the basket of the pump, had all plumbing and the sand replaced yet the the water slow slows dramatically after it’s been on for a couple of hours?
It's possible that the sand filter is filling up with debris and needs to be backwashed. If you have a multiport valve, turn off the pump and switch the valve to the bypass/recirculate setting. Turn the pump back on. If the water flow is fast, the issue is the filter and it needs to be backwashed.
I followed your steps up to #3. I opened the pump basket and it completely flooded my yard and my neighbors yard. Everything was turned off and unplugged.
The problem is gravity. Do you have an aboveground pool? If so, there should be shut-off valves that stop the flow of water before the pump is opened. This could be the case for an inground pool if the equipment is located lower that than the body of water. This would also require that the valves be closed to that flooding doesn't occur.
I’ve just changed the sand, I’ve checked everything for air leaks, the pump isn’t clogged, none of these apply to me But i am getting high psi on the pressure gauge,20+. And low pressure coming out of the return. It doesn’t help when we backwash either.
Is the return jet with the strongest stream the nearest to the pool pump? If so, the strong jet releases most of the water pressure before it reaches the other 3. Or, maybe there is a diverter valve that got fiddled with causing the difference in pressure.
Yes, the closest return jet to the pump gets the strongest return flow abd the furthest jets are barely moving any water. The water flowing thru the spa is moving the water over the spillover ok near that return line. Should I change the return line fittings perhaps a smaller hole on the stronger return? It never used to be like this, that's why I'm thinking my last pool man clogged the skimmer by vacuuming without a vacuum plate. Could this be the issue?
Yes I would greatly appreciate your help my pump motor went out I have changed the motor but I have a lot of debris in the pool I am going to vacuum it out will that hurt my pump motor or how can I use pump or does the debris travel through the pump at all I'm confused lol please help
The one furthest away from the pump may have lower pressure because it's further away. You could put a smaller eyeball in the stronger jets. That would force more water to the other jets. If this a new issue, my guess would be that the filter needs to be cleaned or you have a suction side air leak.
Thanks. Your images of basic parts and internal mechanisms was super helpful. It was excellent teaching - assume nothing. For me this video clarified quite a few internal things, and I've been successfully servicing pools for five years now.Never too late to learn. Many thanks. Australia

Experiencing no flow again. 😢

it usually goes to a fitting a 90 or ell right away

How would I know if this is the problem? My pool loses and gains pressure and when it gives pressure there are bubbles. This just started today
