I'm still riding a Muddy Fox Sorcerer Mega....it's one hell of a bike that I started mountain biking in the 90's...and I had it uploaded in Retrobikes...and you are right...there were lots of memories on it ...
My childhood mate seth put an Oakley thermonuclear protection sticker in his bedroom window in around 1990, his family sold the house decades ago , and it is now a business premises. The sticker is still there! ❤
This is what I like about GCN and GMBN when they look about the evolution of bikes throughout the years. Loving the 90s era of bikes, imagine all the creativity and tech innovations they're trying to do to stand out in the market. Makes you appreciate them even more (plus they look awesome ina a sea of modern bikes lol). Doddy for GMBN and Jon for GCN make looking at classic bikes so much enjoyable.
Love it I had one of those Alpinestars Almega DX back in the day when I was a kid my first real mtb ❤️ even took it to Greece on a trip with my Parents back in 1999 👍 I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada . Happy riding 🤗
Love hearing the back story about Doddy. Thanks for sharing. Also, that beautiful BB7....... it looks so mean, so capable, and ready for shredding.... even when stationary. I had the Michelin DH 32 tires on my DH bike back then and those tires were tough and would grip on anything and everything!
I Love the beautiful original Cannondale. I remember test riding one at a bike shop in northern Michigan back in the mid 90's, but decided to go with a purple GT RTS instead. Big mistake. I should have gotten the Cannondale. Great stuff. Thank you.
So much cool stuff. I love new old stock in the box. That Balfa took me back to my old 2-Step. Aluminum front triangle with a steel rear triangle. Thanks for the nostalgia.
The ALMega is my winner, especially the time correct neon seat bag. This bike was in the shop when my dad bought me my first MTB and I wanted it so much but it was over 2000 Deutsche Mark and out of reach.
I had the cannondale super v1000 years ago , this video has taken me back to the 90s where I had a marin shop and I used to walk past every morning looking at there Indian fire trail and there team titanium . Them where the days
Almost abit surprised i didnt catch a Fat Chance amongst them Doddy, I seem to remember one from the first Malverns vid? For me that ARC has to be up there as i raced a FRO PRO myself back in 91 i think (Grundig WC in Oslo, Norway). Lots of beautiful bikes and remember vividly checking out the Muddy Fox's in adverts in magazines back then ;) The one that started it for me was the Nishiki Bushwacker, not a bike i see very often and would love to get my hands on... Red/white fade or blue/white fade. Grand, grand vid m8, keep em coming
Outstanding knowledge. So many memories. I rode the Cannondale with 26" fr, 24" rear. Horrendous but cool. My first genuine mtb: rigid GT Karakoram, rear U-brake, front centre-pull caliper. Paint flick: black flicks on red frame. I got it second hand for about £30 back 95? I had been riding this abomination, a Raleigh Activator with undamped front and rear suspension. Or maybe it was a hardtail. It could have put me off biking for good.
That almega brings some sweet memories. I had a Miyata Terrarunner back then, which was a super nice bike, equiped with SPD pedals and Onza barends. Guess it must have been around 1990 or so and we went on vacation up north in Sweden that summer for some fishing and biking. As far as I can remember the almega was released about the same year and I had drooled over it in the MTB magazine. When we arrived at the locarion I discovered, to my great delight, that the local Sports shop had an almega you could rent for a day. Of course I couldn't resist and rented the bike. Super stoked I rode it that whole day on the gnarliest single tracks I could find 😁 Guess they wasn't that good at setting up bikes though while I remember I had to adjust the rear deraileur.
The Pepperoni fork takes me back to my 1989 Giant Rincon. I remembered after the P’roni mention that I broke the original forks on that ride and replaced them with…P’roni forks. Loved that bike right up to the day it was stolen. Great memory jogger!
Ooooooh maan. That Al-Mega. I had an Al-Mega XT and it was literally amazing. It was a massive step up from my Diamond back Sorrento with its lowly 200GS group that kept getting chainsuck and eventually suffered a terminal rear derailleur incident (terminal to the non-replacable mech hanger at least) The Al-Mega was second hand but still in great condition and climbed like a beast! I adored the elevated chainstay for that and when it got stolen from my garage was suuuuper disappointed when it turned out Alpinestars changed the design that year to a standard double triangle, and my test ride confirmed a horrible ride, so i switched to a GT Bravado LE as a replacement. But hot damn I loved that Al-Mega. And the dogs bolx was legendary in my circle of friends but never saw one in real life
I still have a scar on my leg where one of those sharp pointy ends of the Velcro bottle cage sliced me open lol. I obviously have a better story at the pub when the ladies are around
Thanks Doddy loved this! Some things I'd forgotten about. Ordered a super V and it was stolen from the shop so ended up with a delta V. And that muddy fox courier......
@@redtobertshateshandles I only paid for the delta V price 🤣 Was an inside job and happened again on next lot of orders but police were waiting. A long time ago.
Does anybody remember an advert from the early 90's shown on British and Irish TV for either Lucozade or Mars Bars. My memory is very vague of it but from the best of my recollection it featured a girl being heli-dropped onto the top of a mountain, she rode out of the helicopter on a Cannondale Super V and headed off down the slopes. The advert featured "She Sells Sauntuary" by "The Cult" as the background music. Anyone??
These bikes were my childhood. Before the internet all we had were magazines and the local bike shop. MTB Pro, MBUK with the mint sauce cartoons. John Tomac. The first bits of carbon fiber and titanium. Love seeing this - thankyou! Did you see any Fuquay bikes while you were there?
The coolest? The Yeti cause I have 2 of those ARCs. Visited Durango around 92/93 and stopped in on John Parker and Co. By then they were already spraying the headtube dart onto the frames.
What's going on with that Super V? I've never seen a Cannondale frame without blended in welds, and also appears to possibly have a gusset at the head tube which I've never seen before either.
Best thing there was the Avocet 30. They were great. How far? How fast? What time is it? What more did you need from a computer. I'd love the see a new wireless version.
Al mega with cosmic trail haha won my first xc race at Penshurst on a borrowed one of those it was super muddy like sticky muddy can't believe how long ago that was pretty sure I raced Hemmings the Lemming down there too good days man, good days my mud cow brethren 👊
I used Michelin front tires for years on my intense m-1 I am on my last one from the time era. I used them all up for races. Now my last one is on the bike and still good.
I have a Giant XCXDS1 Had to wait 3 months for it to be made. Its still in mint condition, stayed inside 5he last 24 year's. I think it's still lighter than half the new bike's.
I’d love to go to this. Does anyone recall a Santa Cruz full-suspension FR/DH sort of deal (before freeride was a thing) it was not a Heckler and came before the Bullit.
A friend of mine had a purple Muddy Fox here in Canada that he got off a guy who moved from the UK, such a beautiful bike; I never should've let him sell it to anyone but me..
I still have my Schwinn Hi Sierra from the 80’s. Unfortunately I replaced the Bull Moose handlebars when my son was riding the bike. I also have 1978 Gary Fisher Level Betty, but someone upgraded almost everything on the bike.
I want the the Nokain Gazza series back, Ha I don't really want to move up to a bigger wheeled bike if I can't have my 2.6 gazza Jr for a front trie (great xc/enduro/DH tire)
I used them in the 90s and loved them. Filed the teeth on the outer cage razor sharp, no slippage but if you ever did it would be a trip to ER.... Great pedals! A big deal back in the day, they were a tough pedal
Iv watched a few retro bike utube videos and not once have i seen my first bike a GT arrowhead in a beautiful metallic blue.. and the bike i own now a Kona dawg primo I bought in 2004
I'm not even an MOBERLY, and I can tell how special this day was. On this topic, does anyone know anything about a vintage MTB I bought that says PARAMOUNT on downtube? Appears to be well outfitted, has a Gervyn stem.
Doddy what ever happened to David the guy who made his own carbon enduro frame? Iv often wondered if he ever managed to get in with a bike company in the industry? Awesome content as always. Thanks bud
Sick bike, I had a pornking back in the day. 24" wheels dirt jumper 1's also had the cock ring seat clamp on it too. I could manual for days with that bike. Should've never sold it 😭
Whatever happened to Vetta?🤔 I used to love reading their clever & creative "Vetta man" archeological dig adverts, a really cool brand but I never got to own it. Oh well.
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
I still ride my Muddy Fox Street Finder. Been with me since 1996.
Really cool to see the Zinn, we funded, sourced every single part, and built it in just 3½ weeks leading up to the GT Malverns event.
These retro videos need to be longer.
At my age I love seeing the old school stuff.

Cool stuff! I'm newer to MTB so it's really cool to see the older tech compared to what we run now
Totally agree! This is the same for a lot of people! It's awesome to learn about MTB when it first started! 👍

Those Ritchey Z-max tires Doddy had on his Muddy Fox were fantastic!
