As a girl gamer, I think their is nothing wrong with having good looking male & female characters. As for your question on who is the sexiest game characters. I will pick Geralt from The Witcher 3 & Lie Fang from the Dead or Alive games lol.
Well men tend to see those unrealistic proportions as goals to reach anyway, meanwhile the best way to reach the perfect female figure is plastic surgery, unless we can all make muscular tomboys the new standard so everyone can start grinding
@@thechugg4372 Men can't reach Arkham batman's physic without anabolics, a pump, hundreds of work out hours, and peak genes, and generally being dehydrated. Men 'want' to look more like them the same way a girl may 'want' to look more like black widow. The healthy individuals just get in the gym and get as close as possible, no one thinks they're going to look like Batman. Chicks can get bigger buns and better shapes by just being in the gym. Just not racks.
men don't care if a 300lbs pure muscle dude is the protagonist of game, movie, etc, we take it as a role model, but when women see an attractive women, well...
@imsentinelprime9279 its unrealistic in the sense that he has muscles on top of muscles to make it more aesthetic and pop more in the anime. Dude has like a 10 pack. You can train hard for years, eat properly and never reach that level. You also have to take into account ppls genetics are different, meaning some muscles might look different or bigger. Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger who is one of if not the greatest body builder ever. He's huge but nothing like goku. Aslo goku is natty💪 most guys that are really big are on the juice. Nonetheless, gokus body or any fictional character's body shouldn't be looked as a beauty standard. We should instead admire the lessons goku taught us, to train and never give up to be better stonger versions of ourselves...
Like act man said its a "you" issue. Im not at my ideal physique, ive been working on it for years. Still overweight but im good. When i watch Dragon ball or other anime with muscular dudes i get the urge to workout. Its all about the mindset. People who think this is a problem arent right in the head or have self esteem issues.
If the man isn't hot, they're just a normal dude. If a women isn't hot, it's the woke mob hating hot women and stealing away all our male eye candy. If someone bitches about plain looking woman, they're a nobhead. If someone bitches about a pretty looking lady, they're a nobhead. Apply this rule evenly, then again to male characters for even coverage, and you'll be able to figure out who on what side isn't worth listening to without nary an issue!
The irony in this is that these are the same people who will say you shouldn't dictate what a woman is allowed to wear, but they are judging video game characters for what they are wearing?
Girls in games with hips and boobs modeled after a real woman - "They're too sexy it's unattainable beauty standards for women." Cratos lifting the weight of the gods and looking absolutely jacked - "I need to go to the gym and look like him."

Twitter getting mad at a slim asian woman for being an unrealistic body standard, and not getting mad at Lady Dimitrescu, goes to show they think being not fat is more unrealistic than being 8+ feet tall
They were OK with Lady D because she is a boss girl who tortures the white male protagonist. But Ashley in RE4 being a cute damsel in distress with upskirts and ballistics was a problem. It's a constant double standard that is really pissing people off.
There's also another thing to consider : they're characters in a fictional setting. They're created, not real people. They can be whatever the devs want them to be for the purpose of the game they're working on. For Stellar Blade, they wanted a sexy, fit young looking woman and that's what they designed. For Gears of War, they wanted ultra-macho built man tanks that moved about as deftly as an overweight bulldozer. For Mass Effect, they wanted blue skinned space babes. So they did. And that's okay because that is their vision of what their fictional setting is about. Another example in fantasy that comes up often : elves. In most settings, elves are smaller, graceful and dexterous. They're the peak of beauty and grace. Then you come across some games where elves are presented differently. In FFXIV, elves (aka Elezens) are tall, lanky with long necks and while they retain some kind of elven theme to them, they definitively do not fit the mold most people would think an elf to be. And yet, people don't complain about it (well, giraffe neck jokes aside) and they simply accept it as part of the fictional setting as it is. And heck, having beautiful female (and male) protagonist isn't something that is desired only by men : how many clips you can find of women having the hots for beautiful female characters? Plenty of them... I'd even say that they're often FAR more obvious about it than men are because gawd forbid a man shows he's actually finding a bunch of pixels sexy but a woman can basically drool on camera and no one bats an eye. Those that complain about it? They're the ones caught in the middle, they're the people who are insecure about themselves and feel that they shouldn't be the ones to change but should have everyone else conform to their personal standards. Those people are vocal because they're not willing to do something about themselves and would rather try to make everyone else feel guilty because they don't share their faults. I'm not at a healthy weight myself and I'll never claim to be a "big beautiful man" because I objectively know I am the sole person responsible for that problem but I'm not going out of my way to admonish characters like Leon Kennedy or Marcus Fenix for being buff and/or fit and campaigning them to be fat like I am. I want Leon Kennedy, Nathan Drake or any male protagonist to look good because that could be a goal I can set myself to try and reach if only to improve myself just a bit more. It doesn't make me angry, it gives me motivation. They're fictional characters, they're fantasy, they're heroes, villains and the side characters that we can to embody, fight or help. So if a dev wants to make an objectively fat character be the hero of their game, go ahead... but they'd better not start crying because *other devs* do not do the same; they chose to go that route and the others chose to take other routes. And trying to take existing, established character and changing them just to fit some kind of agenda is wrong and it should definitively be called out. Respect established character for who they are, what they represented back then and what they represent now, good AND bad.
Thus proving that you don't need to put your female characters in a string bikini for people to like them. They can also have a personality besides being a hot girl, and people will _still_ like them. They don't even have to be human! We literally have furries in this world 💀

Considering how Korean media responded to IGN France and some other western media complaints, I'm sure she'll be fine. She and the rest of Korea are probably just laughing about how ridiculous some people in the west are.
As a woman, I'm perfectly okay with attractive looking ladies like Bayo; I don't get what's so offensive about a conventionally attractive woman. I wonder if it's just out of jealousy, like "I cAn NeVeR lOoK lIkE tHaT sO sHe CaN't EiThEr!" Unrealistic characters tend to be the most fun, like Dante from Devil May Cry. Speaking of the Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man himself, I don't see people complaining when he literally went shirtless for the entirety of DMC3. And for clarification, I'm not even attracted to ladies, I like me some big horned guys like The Iron Bull from Dragon Age: Inquisition and Hellboy or men who could definitely throw me with one hand, like Guts. I just don't like looking at uncanny valley ahh "female" characters like that new Fable protag and MJ from Spider-Man 2.
Exactly, people often forget why fiction was created. It’s not to represent our limited, boring and crude reality in our world. But to reinvent it or enhance it with creativity and imagination. Boosting the beauty, the strength, the power, the emotions, the designs, the mysteries, everything….

Let’s also acknowledge the fact that the IGN France article was trying to rewrite history by using Bayo and 2B as positive points of comparison. Bayonetta and 2B were also met with massive amounts of “they’re too sexy” controversy upon the release of their respective games. It’s time that makes designs “iconic”.
I'm glad you pointed this out. People used to complain that Bayonetta was made to appeal to the male fantasy and fans would try to counter that by reminding everyone that Bayonetta's design was made by a woman.

The hilarious part to me is that they reference things like 2B and Bayonetta in the exact same light until all of a sudden they flip the script when they realize no they're actually well developed characters who just happen to look conventionally attractive. Also, just to highlight...the bottom line with the discourse of body standards, can be basically summarized as forcing ideals. Not matter how we want to look at the intentions behind the people making these discussions, they're all arguing "How should a body look". Sure, there's a different direction as one side wants sexy or "idealized" characters and the others want something more "real", but when the other side gets called out with the fact that the character is indeed based on a living human being, the reality falls into the same issue of people wanting THEIR beauty standards to become THE standards.
I get what you're saying, but It being based on a real human isn't really a good argument. Imagine this argument was made about a character with a diaper butt and wisdom tooth shape and the defense is "well it's modelled off of a real person" when that person is Kim Kardashian
@@deonte9014 That's still a person, there are different body types all over the world and one way or another, we're still going back to the bottom line of folks saying "This is how people HAVE to look like". Regardless of the extreme examples we take, we're back at the concept of what kind of body fits on a magazine, but under the label of what bodies count as "Real People". And i thought we, as a society, agreed that was messed up.
I feel like this isnt really valid. The "other group" only exists because of the first one. The "other side" isnt trying to set a standard (that only scans of models are allowed), but are trying to justify why an attractive character exists, and that the studio/fans arent sexist/never seen a woman/contribute to unrealistic standards. Leaving alone the fact that it seems to be a trend to take a model and then change them to negative reception (which intrinsically seems like a bit of an insult to the actors/actresses, but i digress). Bg3 doesnt have the most attractive women but its beloved, for good reason.
I think one of the problems is that some of these characters are based on real women, and attractive women make other women feel insecure if they haven't dealt with their own baggage. Some men in the industry that want to boink those women in turn, do sadly white knight to look good and agree with them. A lot of reasons for this, but I think it's become worse in recent years.
... Yes. People with psychosis, schizophrenia, and delusional thoughts exist. We should endeavour to help them deal with and recover from such things. And not cater to mental illness.
@@JohnDoe-gt3jr The whole Capcom thing is specifically triggered by that one snafu of a prominent streamer using a nude Chun-Li mod or whatever. It doesn't matter "what it's supposed to be like", no amount of explanation or apologies will change how the greater public will react. It'll show up in the headlines, mothers will clutch their pearls and pass out, and then a bunch of kids will be told by their misinformed parents that they aren't allowed to watch EVO this year, because it's FULL OF PORN. The truth doesn't matter. Perception matters. It's 100% why Nintendo shuts down fan games and emulation. It doesn't matter that "that game only crashed and gave a that one kid a seizure because it was a modded version running in an emulator". The press, and uninformed guardians/consumers aren't going to sit there and do their research and be, all, "Oh, it wasn't actually Nintendo's fault". They're going to see video games/a franchise, see something they don't like, and run away with it like a Buzzfeed writer. If their reputation (and, therefore, the investments of their shareholders) weren't on the line, I'm sure there are plenty of Capcom employees that would be down with mods. Things that harm a game's image, and sometimes the community, can and do come in the form of mods, and the games can be fun without mods... so the reasonable/intelligent thing for them to do is say "No mods", and then... let everybody play the games and have fun anyway. Which is not to say I don't love mods. Just saying, I understand where they're coming from. When you finally realize that Capcom, Bamco, Nintendo, etc.'s product/money maker isn't their games, but, instead, *their reputation*, then you'll understand why they do a lot of what they do.

And I don't know if it's just me but I think I've seen more men than women crying about hot girls in video games.
Yep. It's called virtue signaling. Men are so desperate to not be seen as misogynist that they go to the extreme, not realizing that you can prove that you're not misogynistic simply by....not being misogynistic.

Honestly, the first choice that comes to mind for me is Tali from Mass Effect, you know, the girl that's literally completely covered up all the time in basically a hazmat suit. While it certainly is form fitting (those hips, tho), her main appeal to me is her personality. She's such a dork, and it's so adorable.
I was just gonna say this...Tali is best girl hands down and as you said those hips don't lie but what got me really into her was her personality as well...and that voice too ofc. Like I didn't even expect that I would be romancing her after I first finished ME1 she felt younger and *was* younger back then but BioWare did a great job showing how she matured in between the games without touching her dorky adorable personality and the rest is history for me lol
I love having one faction of people saying that having attractive people in video games is terrible, then another faction of people saying that “ugly” women in video games are propaganda. What a perfectly balanced and desirable media ecosphere that will produce only positive and constructive results in media discourse… right?
It's just culture war nonsense (that is deployed on both sides of the argument). Act Man completely nailed it. Getting mad over "hot" or "normal" looking video game characters is a giant waste of everyone's time. It's always going to exist. Look at what happened when Steam started to allow actual porn games. If western AAA devs completely get rid of sexualization in video games (they won't), it will leave a very profitable market open that will inevitably get filled.
I have a theory as to why some women have a aversion to sexy women in games. Its involves aome evolutionary psychology, but i think it makes sense. Men like sexy women because they like women. Duh. But they dont mind sexy men because they see those men as something to aspire to and improve towards, and for the most part, men can improve their looks and attractiveness. You many not be able to reach the ideal, but you can get closer to it. Women on the other hand may have issues with sexy women because women dont really have any natural way to improve their looks beyond makeup. This makes them self conscious about their looks if they srent comfortable with them and a part of their brain comes to see the fictional characters as competition. Its at least part of the reason.

One thing that keeps getting ignored in the Stellar Blade issue is that it appeals to women too. Of course it's geared more to men but me and my female friends find it attractive as well. We're Asian and she represents our standard of beauty. It's more appealing and reflective of our pop culture than how Western media portray us. Do I feel bad I don't look like that? You are right. I have heard multiple times from girls how they like and enjoy attractive characters as well, and btw there are studies that suggest that as well, and i also think that more women who play games should voice their opinions it would make things more transparent. But i never heard anyone reminding people about this important and obvious fact, that it's a Korean game and Korean culture and it doesn't have to reflect any of the Western bs. As a gay man, I am perfectly happy when I see sexy men and women in my video games. Especially when they have an interesting personality added to them so that I can go "slay". Bayonetta, Miranda from Mass Effect and the classic/LAU Lara Croft instantly come to mind when it comes to women. Alistair from Dragon Age, James Vega from Mass Effect, Sebastien from The Evil Within, Daddy Duke Nukem and so on when it comes to men. And I have used NSFW mods for male characters in my games and literally nobody mentioned anything about those mods on Nexus. But every time a female character gets even a suggestive "SFW" mod, the comment section loses their minds. Double standards at their finest. So yeah, I am all for sexualizing men in video games. Keep em coming!
This is the best take on it ever. I never have an issue with how men are portrayed in videogames, neither does anyone else. I do bring it up against those that try to use "realism" (How did the guys in Gears of War have such HUGE muscle mass with so little food? Is this not unrealistic in this post-apocalyptic scenario?) But otherwise? Give me sex appeal on both sides. I don't care. Hell, if I'm going to look at a character for 20-100 hours (or more) I'd BEST enjoy the fucking view (Why did Bioware take so many of Miranda's ass shots out in the LE, dammit!?). Personality makes it so much better.
I dont think sexuality has anything to do with it personally, Im straight but so what, I still want to play as a buff dude because in real life im tall and skinny af, I have no problem with buuf good looking dudes and i certainly dont have an issue with attractive women either, im not going to delete myself because someone out there in the world is better looking than me, these people are so fragile that a fiction character goes against their fictional gender and they cant handle it, screw these people. give me my hobby back ive been doing this since the early 80s and i will not lose my hobby to people that dont EVEN GAME FFS

I always thought it would be cool to look like them. So to shut people up and go after my ideal physique I went all in. Still happy to this day.

I like the message about how we are the only people who can accept and learn to address our insecurities. You can't let a stupid video game character (a completely fictional thing btw) affect you so much. It's important to realize that video games are art/entertainment. They aren't something to be taken too seriously. Play the games you enjoy, and don't play the ones you don't. It's all about what you make of it. As for your insecurities, just accept that you are a human being, and that there are always habits and areas you can improve on. Don't focus on things outside of your own control, worry about the actions you can take. Stop trying to be someone else, be the best version of yourself. And be who you truly are. Don't waste mental energy on fictional video game characters, games are meant to be fun, nothing more.

I dont really care for sex appeal in video games but if youre making a game anyway might as well make them not ugly. And making characters unattractive on purpose just to pander to twitter is lame. If you want to make a character ugly do it for a good reason and make it part of the story. I wouldnt mind playing a game with a butt ugly protagonist who gets insulted and ridiculed and denied opportunities in life just for looking like the behind of a donkey, that would be an interesting experience and actual social commentary.
Man you should write a book because gd this shit was well put together.

Excellent point!! I very much agree
I get what you're saying, but It being based on a real human isn't really a good argument. Imagine this argument was made about a character with a diaper butt and wisdom tooth shape and the defense is "well it's modelled off of a real person" when that person is Kim Kardashian
Very good point
The problem is, some people can't differentiate between fiction and reality.
Remember that scene in SEL? “Don’t confuse the internet with reality”. And it makes me think on how hate is abundant on the internet.
Another problem is that some people always want reality even in fiction.
Oh so like people on Twitter?
... Yes. People with psychosis, schizophrenia, and delusional thoughts exist. We should endeavour to help them deal with and recover from such things. And not cater to mental illness.

Too bad Capcom and Bandai don't. I swear it's like they saw what other companies do here in the US and copied them.
@@JohnDoe-gt3jr The whole Capcom thing is specifically triggered by that one snafu of a prominent streamer using a nude Chun-Li mod or whatever. Regardless about how you feel about it, it's bad publicity, and hurts the image of the company, the franchise, and the character.
“I jerk off to pixels and drawings” is a weird thing to publicly state.
Nexus mods? Lol.

3. Random banter and drama between the two

9. Will your partner become evil or not turn evil, just choose whatever you want them to be
And there is much, MUCH more to discover.
I'm a woman and I've been gaming since I was 12 years old (26 now) and I've never had a problem with my girls in video games looking hot. Whenever I have a character creator available I try to make my character a mix of hot and "realistic". If that's true, it would be hilarious.

@@graye2799women can improve their looks just as much as men can (besides getting jacked) its just that less women are autistically into looksmaxxing and instead go into shit like astrology

On the topic of Baldur's Gate 3's attractive ass companions... Astarion. No, because I'm an adult who can differentiate fantasy from reality. I have my own identity and style; a look that suits me more and that I'm comfortable with. Doesn't mean I can't celebrate another beautiful woman, fictional or otherwise.

I feel like there's an "Americans think there's no world outside US" meme somewhere in here. "Western bs" started to creep in into Japanese mainstream culture and it's not a pretty sight. I can only hope that Koreans and Chinese will gatekeep better, there's a lot of beauty in unique and distinct cultures (and btw that's how diversity they claim they value so much looks and works) and it would be a shame to loose it to a gray androgynous swamp that Western culture has largely become.

Im not gay, but Leon s Kennedy could get it any night just as equally as Ada wong, that how you know capcom do it right 🙏🙏
As a bisexual, HELL YEAH
@@waurfy2267 I am as gay as I can possibly be, but Ada Wong can step on me and I'd say "Thank you ma'am, please do it again".
How bad is someones insecurity that they have to make everyone ugly in a video game instead of just finding someone to love them unconditionally?
You still believe in unconditional love? In current year? Can we trade places?
Well my parents love me unconditionally, so yes!
I was inspired by video games and anime to get ripped. In Jr. High I was chunky but didn’t have motivation. Wasn’t until my friends started calling me out for being fat and lazy, that I finally went for it. I always thought that video game and anime heroes were awesome. I always thought it would be cool to look like them. So to shut people up and go after my ideal physique I went all in. Still happy to this day.
Are Video Game Characters TOO SEXY?!
No, they are not. We like them, we need more. Period.
Well said
Like Baldurs Gate! Those characters are sexy as hell, and that game did insanely well AND maintains some incredible amount of diversity. It's a win-win-win :)
@@butHomeisNowhere___ Devs needs to understand that they don't have to cut from one side to be more "inclusive". Inclusivity means that EVERYONE gets their spot in the product.
@@arionell I agree, I feel like most devs know that. It's the higher ups who will demand this kinda stuff to increase their market share. Classic corporation stuff, ya know?

"Eve body is unrealistic, oversexualized and puts women in danger." Coming from the body positivity "go head girl. It's fine being 340lbs at 5'2. Live your truth. You're beautiful" crowd. Guarantee eves curves will lead to less harm to women than the health issues your message will.
And to answer your final request it's Panam Palmer for me.
Not only that but it technically would be body shaming women who look like that character. Imagine folks pulling the oversexualization card when most women have Thicc thighs
The "sexy women in games put real women in danger" stuff is essentially the same as the violence in video games argument in the 90s, on for SA instead of violence.
@@graye2799 I'd expect this from strict hypocritical Christians or conservatives but there just reaching at this point with their mental gymnastics

I think Aloy looks fine. However the Fable girl looks like she was modeled after Steve Buscemi.
Equal rights, equal tights.
Damn this is really good advice
Finally, someone with common sense, pretty rare in a time where everything becomes a political hot topic for very dumb reasons.
People have forgotten the difference between facts and fiction nowadays.
Be careful though, common sense pisses of the extremes of the "culture war". (But their replies can be entertaining).
Games just need to be games again, not some mouthpiece for peoples personal issues.

I can't believe he actually said sexualize everyone. I've been saying that forever. Sexualize everyone of legal age, that way no one is getting special treatment, and no one has anything to be offended about.
Honestly, I think the main problem with Aloy, is that it was a sequel, they changed her look/body type from one game to the next, and there was no narrative reason to do so within the context of the story.
I’m tired of people shaming people for finding things attractive. You can’t force people to be attracted to certain body types. they like what they like.
*Can't. I normally don't do the whole 'correcting on youtube comments thing', but this seems like a typo that's actually pretty important for the message.

People are just entitled nowadays. They think they can control and demand people to dance to their tune. "How dare you have preferences and standards?!?!"
@@VanTheMan1099They’re not wrong. All attractions are not learned behaviors, they are inherent. When people “gain” attraction, that just means they realized their attraction after not knowing about it before. The “p-philia” falls in that category, same as the “z-philia”.

And will continue to forever be.

Honestly the only thing I have a problem with is how female characters don't ever get combat appropriate armour. Having bare skin on display isn't conducive to not getting killed.
There's no such thing as too sexy! Sex sells! The devs make characters sexy in their own way! Nuff said!
Some people just don't care for sex appeal. They simply want an overall fun game! Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade are doing just that!
and then there's the part where anyone can be sexy to someone, so what these "too sexy" ones are.. are just conventionally attractive to the majority. some people might like them flat or tomboy for example.
@@Chillwave6 indeed
I dont really care for sex appeal in video games but if youre making a game anyway might as well make them not ugly. And making characters unattractive on purpose just to pander to twitter is lame. If you want to make a character ugly do it for a good reason and make it part of the story. I wouldnt mind playing a game with a butt ugly protagonist who gets insulted and ridiculed and denied opportunities in life just for looking like the behind of a donkey, that would be an interesting experience and actual social commentary.
But instead game devs are submitting to the twitter mob and making characters look like twitter users without it having any relevance to the game and that I consider spineless behaviour.
but then again there should be a fine line, if a game is overly sexualized it's just hard for me to take seriously.
@@Immolator772theres no fine line imo, theres an obvious line if a character sole purpose is to be sexy and to have sex with her it goes over it, if a character has actual good writing behind it like ME DA BG and many more its fine to be "unrealistic good looking" hell miranda from ME2 is designed too be unrealistic its her entire story how to deal with that and its expectations of people around her that expect her to be flawless and how toxic that is
When they can properly mocap the Fallen Order protag's face, and not Outlaws, something feels fishy.
The thing with outlaws only the protagonist seems to have had shotty mocap in the latest trailer another lady that appears in that trailer looks fine I'm more inclined to believe that someone at Ubisoft just fucked up with that trailer which wouldn't be far fetched after the classic collection debacle

This is the most objective and unbiased The Act Man has been on certain subject.
Just keep it consistent in whatever franchise you're making. Don't uglify a traditionally sexy series or character and don't sexualize a traditionally non sexual series or character.
Yes this☝🏿
This is exactly the reason why Dead or Alive 6 never even popped off in ANY of the regions and the development was ceased only after few months.
Before the game was released, they specifically stated that they decided to switch their art focus away from sexy characters.
They doomed the game with one single tweet.
Agreed, for example, the fable trailer. Character designs in that franchise have always been purposely ugly because of it's setting. Anyone expecting a needlessly attractive character in that game are probably not fans of the series in the first place.
