I just found your channel and I am so thankful! I love your content. I have been on a journey of propagating and similarly found that in almost every case with the succulents clippings I used, the water worked out best. It’s funny because I just started propagating my spider plant and ivy among others so it’s awesome to see your success and your tips. Thanks again!
Ohh wow I definitely know what to do next time when I want to propagate my spider plant babies 🌱 also I love that you use a spoon as a tiny shovel 🥄 haha thanks for sharing 💕
I use the foam noodles bought from dollar tree for $1.25. Cut about 1” long and put the plants in the hole that already has if the hole too big you have to cut on the side then squeeze to fit for the plants. Use plastic cup just the same size. The roots will stay in the water only
To prevent the cutting leaves sinking into the water, you can place a piece of cardboard onto the glass jar with holes for the stem cuttings. It's easy then to lift cardboard when you need to add more water :)
Richard,.like how you give good plant tips by showing up close with your camera to see how it is properly done always a good Videos. i bought a new 2 baby green spider plants and i put a mix of perlite and pro-max indoor potting soil.thank for the tips.your one of my favorite channels.take care.👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you like furikake on rice, this is my go to small container for small trimmings, green onions, etc. Perfect little narrow jars. And I love furikake haha.
Awesome thank you! What do you do with the runner on the mother plant? Do you just leave it 'empty', or cut it right off? I accidentally cut mine off and now I'm worried I won't get any more pups :(
No problem! I leave the runners there because I don't mind how they look. If you accidentally cut one off, don't worry the mother plant should grow more :)
Cut it off..it will turn brown anyway, and the mother plant will send out new growth. Often times where you cut it off, the mother plant will double the shoots she sends out.
Richard,.i to prefer to propagate in water first to grow roots then i plant in my soil mix works best for me to.always great video information tips.thanks for sharing on line!.take care.have a great day.
Spider plants really are very hardy and the babies grow like crazy whether planted in water or soil. One of the easiest plants to grow, great for beginners.🧑🌾
I put my babies in a glass jar with about 1 inch of clay pellets. The clay pellets float in the water and don't sink. The babies don't sink down in water but pellets keep them wet. It works very well.
I am growing philodendron mican, marble queen pothos and silver satin pothos cuttings in water with a little bit of plant fertilizer in the water. My painted lady is doing bad. I am going to try her in water soon.
I have baby spider plant put in a empty honey bottle.I put coffees ground in the water. It has grow small roots.I plan to change the water once a week. I plan to keep it in water when it grows large I plan to put it in a vase with rocks and water .I don't want it in soil according to location in my house and space.Enjoy your video. Please share more tips.
you get a mason jar, with a lid. Take the lid off hot glue string and all types of direction on the top of the lid. Then you fill it up with water screw on the lid and solution easily solved. I have over 200 plants in that propagation method , works great. once a week don’t even have to upset the plants empty the water and screw back on,
These are very tough , one squirrel came and plucked it and throwed away I didn’t see for two days , and when I tooted back it survived again the roots are too strong like green sprouts
I know they can remain attached for long time since some people never take them off the mother plant. In my experience though, the roots on the plantlets don't grow to be well established while still attached to the mother plant.
Yes they can, as that is how they spread in the wild growing along the ground. You would have to have the pot next to the mother plant and use a reformed paperclip to secure the pup to the surface of the potting mix. It would probably become rooted faster still attached to the parent plant as it would continue receiving nutrients throughout the rooting process.
I have 15 - 1 footers I go from water to soil and then hit em with a feeding and hydrogen peroxide diluted in water once a month. With 4 months they produce new chutes with babies. Unfortunately I trim them off to keep the plant from getting to lanky. When they are fuller Ill let the chutes grow out.
I have Hawaiian Spider Plant is pure green only and it is very rare it gave so much baby cutting which i have in the kitchen .i want this version i have seen it but never own any.
It seem that it's a coin-toss. Better root growth with soil propagated (since they have been in soil longer), with a slightly better leaf growth on the water propagated. I call it a draw. I'm simply waiting for my "pups" to form a node. A good comparison & and a nice review. Thank you.
To keep cuttings from falling into the water, cover the glass with foil and poke the roots through the foil
Very practical solution, thanks!

Hahaha spoons have worked surprisingly well for me so far! 😅
@@BudgetBotanyspoons come in handy! Anyways can't wait to see your new plants in your new home in Canada!

Haha yeah the journey > destination
@@BudgetBotanyI like what you do, your videos relax me. So keep it 🙂
Thank you for showing start to finish!!!! GREAT video, just what I was looking for!!

Very helpful. Will be trying this for the first time today.
Good luck!
You should find some kind of object/s that you can put in the water to let them rest on. Maybe a small pebble or something?
Yeah that might work!

Do more pups grow off the runner if you leave it there after you cut the OG pup off?
Why have I never thought of using a spoon… 😅 that looks way, way easier and less messy than my current routine 🤓
Haha I also like that the spoon can go right into the dishwasher when I'm done 😂
Great video. You were really through. I really enjoyed watching. And love your accent. ❤️🙂👍
Thank you so much!
Use an old salt or pepper shaker to get the correct size that works from a thrift shop.

Throw away plastic water bottles do well for water propagating. I used one when I was propagating a Pathos
Great idea :)

That must be very pretty! I have yet to see a pure green spider plant
Can we add liquid seaweed fertiliser during this process???
I have not tried, but it sounds like a good idea for another experiment!
I'll go soil all the way
As you unpoted the plants in soil you made the results void unfortunately as part of the point of soil propagation is the lack of root disturbance .
Next time the root comparison will only happen at the end then :)
It seem that it's a coin-toss. Better root growth with soil propagated (since they have been in soil longer), with a slightly better leaf growth on the water propagated. I call it a draw. I'm simply waiting for my "pups" to form a node.

I agree!
Spagnum moss works best
I use a shot glass to root spider babies
That's a good one!
Do snake play please 🥺🌱♥♥♥♥
Great suggestion! I've heard they lose their variegation when propagated by cutting though, which I don't want, so I've never tried :(
To avoid the plant cuttings submerging in the container of water, just don’t fill the container so deep…..
Sure but unless you find a container of the right size, your plantlet will sit in the bottom of a jar and still fall over
