I love how you use the English language. "If you encounter such leaves..." I would never think to use the word encounter there, and it is absolutely elegant.
John from NZ here, but my wife from Meghalaya and we will be moving there when conditions permit. Firstly, my thoughts with you all in India at present. I do a lot of propagation here in NZ and will be doing more (different plants, different climate) when we move to Meghalaya. I liked the video very much but I just say that I have variable experience with propagating in water when they also propagate in soil. There are a few plants that I find propagate well in both (e.g. Armeria, "cigarette plant", pineapple sage) but if I start them off in water they grow roots much quicker and easily transplant directly into pots or the garden itself. One of the joys of gardening is that one can always experiment, always learn and enjoy sharing experiences with other plant lovers from around the world.
In a shallow, open container (including anything you’d use to root plant cuttings), there’s enough gas exchange between water and air that the water will generally be saturated with oxygen, and the carbon dioxide will outgas quite rapidly as it is produced. So changing the water in the container is to keep down algae, bacteria, fungus, and mold levels (and, of course, mosquitoes), not really to maintain an oxygen level.
Thank you for the information. I just repotted and trimmed my Zebrina Transcadetia. Over 50 cuttings are in water right now. I will be placing them into soil tomorrow because I don't want to loose them.
Hey Ann! Love everything about this video. Simple, to the point, no irritating music, and perfect length of the video. Love your instagram content too! You are doing great! Appreciate your efforts in making all this information easily available to fellow plant enthusiasts 💚
I was given a neon pothos that was sitting in water for 3 years. I had it for a year and I only potted it last month. The roots were extremely long. So far so good! I changed the water so that’s why it survived
@@lilsleetee1427 can you keep it in water forever or do you eventually have to plant it? Also did you just put it in regular soil? Or did you add anything to it?
The clarity of your video is amazing! Thank you for investing in good equipment. Secondly, this video was so helpful because I wanted to bring back some of my annuals for next year.
#1 so true. It's good to all rinse the roots with a sink sprayer if you can if you let them sit in water longer than "considered necessary" like pothos/philodendron for example
good video!! I like that you tell the truth, and not saying propagating in water is the best thing ever, like other videos do.I will add that, the kind of water your using is really important too.I find that in tap water ,or filterd water, cuttings die easy,so I use only mineral water(spring water)for cuttings ,
Someone suggested me to watched your video cause according to her it is so helpful and the moment I watched it I got so inspired and it helps me a lot specially to my huge collection of rare plants... I actually have a lot of rare ornamental plants , different variety of orchid , roses and more.,.. and your video also inspired me to share my collection to my own channel .. I must say that you are the best and thanks to your great help ... Love lots ❤️❤️❤️ from the Philippines
Found ur video while searching for something else.. loved all ur tips about plant propagation.. i hv just started to propagate my house plants and garden plants and found ur video very helpful.. you just earned a new subscriber..🤗
I'm so glad mosquitoes aren't a concern for me here! Yikes. Also, unrelated, but can I just say how beautiful your voice is? It's so relaxing I could listen to it for ages! :) 🌱✨
Superb video ! I am a new gardening enthusiast and I loved your detailed yet to the point explanation. I will surely keep all these tips in mind while propagating my plants.
U can add this point too : plants rooting will b faster in a non transparent bottle than transparent because root development doesn’t need light .So first keep the plant in a opaque bottle with water , then transfer to anything ☺️
Just curious, I’ve noticed some plant owners only keep there plants in water containers for the roots-but you mentioned taking them out of the water and into soil after a few inches of root growth. I also do like observing my root growth in the clear water vases and debated just leaving them as such rather than planting them. Is this okay after all? Or do you think we should always plant directly after achieving 3 or so inches of root growth of all of our plants? Thanks! ✨🌱🌿🪴 Love your video-it is so helpful and your accent is absolutely gorgeous to listen to as well!
Thanks to this video! I never knew it was mosquito larvae! I thought some kind of plant worms and would keep them thinking that they were as beneficial as earthworms 😕

I brought a ivy plant cutting from a friend's place yesterday. I've put it in water for now but I have no clue as to how to get it to develop roots. Please help!
i change water every 3 day and also harvest rain water for my cuttings. I never leave sanseveria to air dry but i wont let the cutting touch water while propagating. I use cling film on the container and insert sanseveri through a slit and the humidity will do the job .i did propagate my sanseveria in this way. you should give it a try.
What a lovely video, I so enjoyed listening to you. You speak very well without rushing that I found you easy to follow. It is perfect that there is no interfering music as you speak!!! You have confirmed things that I have often wondered about. Now I know! Propagation is an art form and people often say that the plant failure rate is high, generally, which is why plants are expensive to buy. Here, in the south-west of England, my cuttings in water, root at a slower rate. I enjoyed seeing your propagation station, it’s something to drool over!! So interesting!! Thank you, dear, for a beautiful lecture and I wish you much luck in your horticultural pursuits! 🍀🌻🌶
Hello! amazing video! but what if i want to leave the plant in water (for instance alocasia zebrina), can i trim the roots and put it back in water or will it get a root rot?
my precious one thanks from Amsterdam Holland i learned too many of great ideas from this. i love and needed all these big thanks and appreciation be blessed...namaste smiles success
Great video, thank you for making and sharing it, I really learned some valuable tips, many blessings to you, आप के लिए कई आशीर्वाद, உங்களுக்கு பல ஆசீர்வாதங்கள்
Thank so much I really really enjoyed watching you talk to us all about the propagation of our cuttings. I really enjoyed this and it made sound sense too. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too
Very informative. I'm just starting my water and soil propagation at the same time for my plants. Waiting for my cissus cuttings to root, noting which one is quicker. 💚
Very helpful video! I have definitely broken rules 5 and 7... What would be the best thing to do with my propagations now, plant them anyway and wish for the best or leave them in water?
Good ,helpful video. Just a suggestion ,when you name the plants,if you could use the common names by which they are referred to or just show the plant, it'll be very helpful to "basic level(!!)" kind of plant growers like me. I didn't know any of those plants whose names you mentioned.
Thankyou, glad it helped. :) some of those plants I referred to are not so common hence there is a possibility you've not heard the names. Also those are the names by which they are generally referred to in the hobby. But have made a note of your point and will try to use common names as much as possible. Thanks for your feedback 😊👍
Don't replace the water, saw an experiment where there was no propagation from changing water and there was huge one on the no-change water, if you're worried about oxygen, just fill a little bit of water every few days. Plants release a growing hormone that if you just dump by changing the water - then it'll impede your plants' growth.
Do u add rooting hormones into the water.. For eg Rootex which is meant for soil plants.. if you add a minute amount will that help.. thank u Video is soo wonderful 👌👌
Mam, Your videos are very informative and helping. I shall make some request for betterment 1)At the end of Videos, plz display summary or quick windup of important points 2)Request to use Hindi + English, rather than only English 3)If you specify also key Month and Season for performing the activity then it will help a lot to avoid any mistake 4)Kindly guide more on Areca Palm and Kalanchoe especially, I'm really having hard time with them
