Changerion is my jam when I was a kid and still is today. The costumes (especially the villains) are just kicks ass, and it's cool seeing the future Kamen Rider Ouja playing a bumbling hero.
The unorthadox nature of Changéríon is honestly my favourite aspect of the show But then again, I always like it when a toku show just embraces what it is and has fun with itself
The reason why the ending came to be the way it was is obviously to the cancelling of the show. Inoue wasn't the happiest man about that and decided to make a gag ending. The common complaint the show got is how untraditional it was. So Inoue pretty much made the ending of the show be like the what if idea. What if Changerion was a more "traditional" Toku. He sort of was venting in a tounge and cheek fashion with this ending. Since obviously Changerion was enriched with meta humor that the auidence didn't seem to get when it first aired.
Oh yeah, I see the connections a little bit though Akira has the benefit of keeping his skin and just a regular guy like you and me while the Borgmen had very sad backstories and had to give up their human bodies for cyborganic ones.
I've finished watching this show and man, this show...is freakin' awesome. Normally, I don't like MOTW style episodes thanks to Junko Komura's writing with Zyuohger and Zenkaiger and LupinvsPat when clearly, in those shows..something big would have happened and she's guilty for setting up plots that ended up nowhere, here in Changerion - there are things I enjoy which brings out the best in characters as well as the world they live in and feels pretty believable. If Kamen Rider Revice is about fighting against your demons and improving to save the world, Changerion is the opposite of that where its ok to be yourself, have fun and be merry. Little did you know that the stuff you might see and ppl you meet will eventually change into something better. Revice is about demons while Changerion is about seeing the bright side of life and just enjoying it to the fullest.
I’m currently on episode 30, and I’m really liking it. It’s nothing ground breaking, but it’s definitely one of the most overlooked Toku shows I’ve seen. I do have one small gripe though. For some reason, the monsters became less and less detailed as the show went on. In the first bunch of episodes, the monsters were all full body costumes. But as the show went on, only the upper half had the monster parts while the lower half was just pants and shoes. It’s like they ran out of materials for the suits and just decided “eh let’s just do the upper half and not bother with everything else.” It just makes the suits look incomplete. One other small gripe I have with Akira’s assistant Akemi. Now I really like Akemi, my problem stems from something a bit later on. Ok a bit of a spoiler here, Akemi leaves mid way through the show to become a school teacher, in the next episode she’s replaced with Rui, a girl whom Akira saves from a monster. I like Rui, but her shtick of buying very expensive useless items got grating after a while, especially when it got Akira into financial trouble. Anyways, a bit later into the series, Akemi comes back, but her return isn’t treated with the finesse it deserved in my opinion. After she left the first time, Akira was legit bummed out about it, he got depressed and sad and wouldn’t do much. Yet when she comes back I thought he’d be ecstatic to see her again, but no it literally feels more like “oh Akemi, you’re back, hi.” Idk, that’s how it felt to me. Sure we get a cute little moment where she sneaks up behind him and covers his eyes saying “guess who.” But afterwards it’s all business.
It's kinda weird seeing Takashi Hagino play Akira, a dorky, funny and juvenile character when I know him from Kamen Rider Ryuki where he plays a psychopathic, sadistic villain.
And the Sega/Toei connection would continue when both would work with Gainax on the Evangelion movies, basically providing funding and distribution of those movies respectively. But yeah Changerion was a very interesting show, the only thing though which I think don't spoil things too much is the fact that Hayami and Brader are the same character and that he transforms by eating umeboshi. Other then that, it's a good video. :)
Kuuga is a unorthdoxed rider season thats great. Im in the camp of i watched faiz first with my rider seasons and when i watch the others faiz feels noticeably weaker. Faiz fights are neat but some elements of plot and kaixa in general just makes it kinda rough. Kiva is actually much better than i anticipated. Agito is a underrated gem that's written by inoue apparently
Strangely I kinda miss the early heisei being darker for KR (like Faiz) and Jetman is regarded as one of the best seasons for a reason, same with Timeranger.

I wouldn't say Changerion is forgotten, people talk about this a lot, the show is fully (fan) subbed.
I'm usually not interested in Heisei tokusatsu outside of the Big 4, but the comedic elements definitely make this seem unique.
Hayami Akira bond is like Lion Man G & tiger Joe.
The first 2 episodes are on Toei's Toku UA-cam channel if I remember.

The Author kinda have some haphazard writing but for some reason Changerion, Jetman, and Faiz is the only Toku that kinda stuck with me
