With Meshuggah you will generally have a hard time picking out the bass sound on it's own. It IS audible though. They just have a very specific way of mixing their sound that doesn't make it obvious. Their Guitars are tuned so low (they use 8-string guitars) that it would make no sense to record bass another octave lower as you'd usually do. Therefore they record bass in the same octave as the guitars and have it provide the clean low end while the guitars add the aggressive distortion element. Basically the sounds of bass and guitar mix together for their rhythm sound.

Digging up the question about where the Bass is:
From a Metal/Djent producers point of view most of the time the Bass will play in unison with the guitars. The guitarists play 8 Strings tuned down a half step, the bass is tuned up a half step. This means the common low note is F. The Lowest string on the 8 String guitars has the same pitch as the lowest string on the bass (only exception that comes to my mind is probably Bleed). The bass tone is naturally fatter than that of the guitars.
The effect that this creates is a very fat guitar tone. The bass is not heard individually, cause he playes the same shit as the guitars do. That is also the secret to Meshuggahs metallic but fat guitar tone overall. In metal, the secret of a perfect guitar tone is the underlying bass.
Just pointing that out, cause when I first started listening to Meshuggah, I was riddled in how the f**k they sculpted that guitar tone.

Tomas Haake trained a looot of years, there is a lot of practice involved on this, this song is hard even for his legs but it's a lot of training

    Meshuggah- Future Breed Machine
    Clockworks ( drum cam)
    Born Of Dissonance
So many good songs by this band.
    Are they math metal?
    Well...Tool is basics... Fibonacci.
    Meshuggah is trigonometry and calculus
Danny Carey from Tool couldn't do the math to play for Meshuggah 🤷
I like both bands, but Meshuggah is on a different level
