Great vid Scott! Any 09-14 will work..BUT, you absolutely need to ONLY exchange your original pump that is connected to your brake module by unscrewing the 4 star screws and carefully prying apart with a knife or flathead. Attach the new pump to your old computer housing and reinstall. If you just install the new module without these steps, the brakes will work but the abs, esc, and brake light will stay on. Your car is married to the old computer and need it to function correctly. Besides this, the pump is usually the issue due to the original corrosive factory brake fluid. Don't forget to bleed system after.💯💯
I has a super great mechanic do it, so I'm not sure of the swap details. thanks for the additional info. We're almost at 250K Miles and it still drives like a racecar!
@@scottkamper What model number was the part? I have a 2013 RSpec and the ABS ETC and parking sensor lights are always on now. And I cannot use cruse control
I followed this video. fixed it right up. $133 for used low mileage ABS unit from ebay, paid my guy $150 for labor, and flush. BAM! fixed. Thank You!!!
You can disassemble the plastic housing on the brake module, and remove the "computer". do this to both units and swap them. Then install the 'new' module (with the computer that was programmed to your car) into your car. Yes you will have to bleed the brakes. you will need an advanced diagnostic computer, and then you just tap "bleed brakes" on the screen and the car will go "brrrrrr.....Beeeeeepp..... mweerrrrp" and they will be bled. no tools required. You might want to have a mechanic shop do that for you.
same question thanks, I have a 2015 genesis all the lights coming on told by different dealer the ABS Module is the propblem. The dealer purchased from was worthless. I was just told $2400 for ABS Module and found part on e-Bay $72 -$260 and up. if i get the part and need the tech and his machine to bleed the brakes should I even try doing any of this myself? or have the same tech do all of it? I was already told by my shop unable to install because cannot program it.
You need to ask your mechanic who is the most capable mechanic in your city. my mechanic recommended a better guy and they were willing to install it and reprogram it but the reprogramming was not needed. I do not think you can do it yourself. I think Hyundai switch to brake fluids a few years after my 2009. There's no way to be sure that you have the same problem as the earlier years
Hello, not related to the brakes, but I heard you say at the time your Genesis had 183,000 miles on it… Have you replaced your transmission fluid? I am looking at buying an 09 genesis with the 4.6. I’m just concerned about the cost of changing the transmission fluid. Having experience points, do you have any insight to this?
Sortof. about a year ago our trans started to click a little bit between gears 4 and 5 (or something like that) It's a sealed, lifetime transmission, meaning that it's rather difficult to change the fluid in and they dont recommend it. also I don't think there is a trans fluid dipstick on it. Also, there is No Haynes Manual for this car, since only *apparently* only wealth bring-it-in-to-the-dealer type people own these cars. If you search the transmission compatibility you will find that it's a German transmission also install in mazerattis and a bunch of other high-power cars. All that to say it's pretty well built and probably won't self destruct for a lot of miles. My mechanic said don't worry about it and it'll last a reeeeeallllly long time, so we drive on. 204,000 miles and counting. It could really use some new struts in the near future. It's the best car I or any of my siblings have ever owned and if it gets in a wreck, we'll probably cry.....then wait to buy another one.
That's what I had. I took it in and they tried a bunch of stuff and didn't fix it....look at the recalls. I believe 2009-2012 they had bad fluid in them that made the brake controllers go bad like what you're describing
Hello. Thanks for the information and video. I'm considering purchasing a 2011 Hyundai Genesis with elect brakes and adaptive cruise control. It has an open recall for the brake cap, and im.sure had the standard dealer repair for the abs system you referred to in the video. The oem part number for the abs control module is (58920-3N3A0). I believe it would be worth the chance if I could apply your fix to the car. My question is, was your vehicle a v8 or v6 and will that matter regarding the 2013 swap? The car I'm considering is a v6. Thks I know this is an old post but maybe you can assist and let us know how your cars braking system is holding up. Thks again
I cant look it up exactly because ebay closes old listings but it was listed in ebay as a "2013 genesis abs anti lock brake actuator pump". The forums i found said it was fixed in 2012 so the cars sold after that should have "non-contamimated" units.
Hi, I know this thread is quite old but hopefully you or someone else may be able to respond. I have a 2009 Genesis 3.8 sedan and I just recently started having the common brake issue I assume is due to corrosion in my ABS module. My car’s module has the part number 58920-3M050. You said you put a newer module with part number 58920-3M060 in your 2009 and was it a direct fit replacement? I just wanted to verify before trying to purchase one myself and I don’t want to buy one prior to 2013 so that it hopefully won’t have the corrosion issue. Thanks!
My mechanic did the swap and brake bleeding. He did not tell me there was any issues. Look up the recall and confirm the year that they fixed it. If they fixed it in 2011 then you could get a 2012 part. I'm not sure of that anymore.
Im gonna try this fix because i paid the dealership 950 00 to replace this ipc module and they replaced the brake switch, i still have issues starting, and they really dont know what the real issue is, im gonna try this and pray this helps , its overall a good car except this issue
Hey man I'm having a problem with my genesis 2013 When I break the car goes to 1 side... But a was thinking that the problem was on the suspension.. But today thay tell me that the abs module is just passing fluid to only 3 wheels. So they give me the same price on the dealership.. So do u think is the abs module? Thanks
How have your brakes been thus far after posting this video? I recently just purchased a 2010 hyundai genesis with 75k miles on it and it had the dot 3 replaced with the dot 4 fluid but I am still concerned that corrosion may have already taken place in the HECU that I cannot see which is why I'll probably go ahead and do the correct fix for it and not the bs Hyundai tried to pass off as a "fix" because after the additives wear off in the dot 4 fluid the system is open to corrosion again.
I bought the car with 170K miles, Its at 214K miles now and no brake problems. from my initial research lots of the Genesis have electrical issues. my driver seat controller died and the backup camera died, trans has a small click between first and second, but engine and brakes are great!
Scott Kamp thanks for the quick reply. And okay awesome I will be doing this very soon then and thanks for the heads up! Hopefully all were easy fixes but I will face them once I get there lol
Am about to buy one of the 2009 genises but the owner said it has brake issue and not sure how to fix it,do you think I should try the 2013 break module?
@@vsvpdom it's now been over 4 years, 226000 miles now. No transmission problems. The brakes have been great. It had random misfires but they went away spontaneously.
