did both my mirrors this weekend successfully!! your video was a godsend. saved me so much money. the only hiccup i had was that i accidentally switched the plug for the turn signal and the one that goes into the motor assembly. once i realized that the motor was only working when the door was being locked (meaning that the turn signal would go on), I realized my mistake. changed them back and all works.
@@jlkirbee the first one probably took about 55 minutes, but the other one took around 30 minutes. the only thing that really took time was putting everything back together.
Thank You for your instructional video. I went step by step and completed the gear replacement in about 90 minutes. Not sure what the total cost of the dealership would charge but I'm sure it saved me a lot of money following your step-by-step repair video. Again thanks for doing this video.
Just repaired my broken mirror. Took a little over an hour. Mine is a 2015 Genesis and it's slightly different inside the mirror, but not enough to confuse or make a difference. Thanks so much for your video, saved me a bunch of money! Really appreciate you. Thanks!
@@obriets I just bought a 2012 Equus and the passenger side mirror won't fold or unfold. The dealer sent me another one, but it's pretty chipped up. I'm assuming this is the same part for the Equus, but wanted to check with you first. Did you order? And did it fit?
@@Gods-Country I managed to order the metal version of the gear inside that was broken. Went in to change it and noticed that the reason it was broken is that someone must have forcefully tried to open my mirror and broke more than the gear. I ended up pulling the gear back out for some future use on the other mirror if it breaks and ordering a whole new mirror from EBay. Installing it was pretty quick and it now works fine. Cost me about $600 and change.
Followed this yesterday to replace the gear in a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. Reviewed the video again after receiving the replacement part. It was very helpful in doing a pretty tedious repair but I could not have done it without your video. Anyone else trying this repair should not be intimidated by the apparent complexity, just take your time and line up all the screws in the order you remove them. that helps. Also be aware of a small circuit board within the motor assembly. Mine came disconnected when I was opening up the housing. There is a small plug that came loose but was fairly easy to re attach. if I had not noticed that and got everything put back together it would have not functioned and been very hard to diagnose the problem. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the excellent video.. I have a 2012 Genesis and both mirrors quit on me at about the same time. I initially had a hard time getting the trim off that surrounds the mirror. For anyone doing this in the future, after you take out the three screws in the trim, start your prying at the screw end. There are three snap tabs at the other end that will let go when you pry it up from the screw end
Thank you! This was perfect.my side mirror started clicking last week and it was the same broken part you had. $11 on Amazon and an hour of work, and my mirror works great!
Awesome video! Thanks for posting and I have ordered my replacement gear. Looks like a perfect, but tedious, rainy day project. My 2012 Genesis sedan will be very happy to have a passenger folding mirror again!!!
Man this was a life saver. I changed my passenger mirror in like 30 mins thanks to you! my bluetooth isnt working. It would be pretty cool on how to take out the bluetooth module
I saw a different video and in that one the guy removes the door panel first. Glad I saw ur video before I started. In my case (equus), left mirror would move but when folded it kept making clicking noise. I found NO broken gear. Uh oh! I did find that the same gear was stripped on that “toothed” shaft. Thanks for the video
Thanks for your comment. When you do a repair like this, take your time and be organized. Also you can use your phone to take pictures for reference which helps with reassembly.
Great video. I have the same problem with my 2016 Genesis v3.8 sedan. Are you located anywhere near the Orlando area? I would like for you fix it for me.
If the mirror were to be pushed forward like in a minor accident with a shopping cart would it break the mirror or is there a safety feature which allows them to rotate forward without breaking?
Note: for new viewers, the plastic gear might just have a hairline cracks that is barely visible. In that case might hold the gear shaft with needle nose vise grip, or pliers, and try to rotate the gear. I have pictures but don't think I can add them here. Other mirror that broke 2 years ago, the gears were good, and it appears the motor had given up.
So my mirror won't move up, down or side to side in addition to the whole mirror folding in and out. Does the one gear (or motor) contol all of these things?
I did the same thing on my 2018 Genesis G80. The glass mirror did not come off as easy as the video. I did replace the motor screw with a metal one. My problem was that the mirror would not open when my driver mirror opened. I had to do it manually each time. I thought it was the plastic motor screw but the screw was fine. Now it cost me $450 and the passenger mirror still does not open when my driver's side mirror opens. What a waste of time and money? The only consolation I have is now I know there is a metal screw there. The prices for these mirrors is outrageous!

How long did it take you to replace?

I’ve got a 2016 Equus and am about to order the part he has linked. Is that the part you used for your 2015 Genesis?

Thanks for that tip. I’m gonna tackle this tomorrow.
Also, did you use the white grease too, or just put the part in without it?
Can't thank you enough. Saved me over $1,000. The recommended part and removal kit links from Amazon were dead on target.

@@dial2fast I did this but now my mirrors are just clicking. What do I do?
Thank you for the video. Does the gear also impact the mirror adjustor as well? My mirror will move but does not seem to adjust as mush as it used to.
The folding mechanism has nothing to do with the mirror adjust. The mirror adjust motors might be wearing out.
Amazing video!!! Very detailed and helpful! Thank you sooo much for sharing!!!!!
where can the replacement gear be found for a 2016 genesis passenger side mirror that won't fold
My mirror is just clicking and not moving now. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Fixed mine today. Appreciate you!
Dumb that it didn't come with a metal piece from factory. Great video as always.
Great video. I have the same problem with my 2016 Genesis v3.8 sedan. Are you located anywhere near the Orlando area? I would like for you fix it for me.
Thanks very much for posting this video. It was concise and easy to follow. You have saved me hundreds of dollars! Much appreciated!
Great video. Thank you for spending the time sharing this repair!
Is it the same for the driver's side? Or is it a different gear?
If the mirror were to be pushed forward like in a minor accident with a shopping cart would it break the mirror or is there a safety feature which allows them to rotate forward without breaking?
Wow bro thanks ! Very well explained 👍 I'm having the same problem with my car so I will definitely try this . Have a bless day brother
I have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate with the same issue, would you consider fixing my mirror for a fee of course?
Can you tell me how much it cost to have someone do it for you ?
You make it looks so easy to do.
Very smart man!!
Thank you, this was very helpful!
Great video
Please help me i have a scirocco from 2014 and I cant take the motor out, it just doesnt come out

Nice job!
Thanks I was able to fix mine with help from this video. Only thing is I have a extra screw and don't know where it goes. 😂.

Where did you order the part from, my local dealer tells me they can't get it

Will this work with a 2011 equus?

Best to check the cost of repair, & compare with the price of a new mirror, then decide which is the best way to go.!
Short answer is no. The mirror face itself is by a center movable assembly that has a multi-connector plug (blue?) @alanarmstrong9571
great Video!
Well done.
thank you very mch bro
thanks
How much does the mirror cost
Replace with manual.
Screw all that, buy a new mirror
Wtf just buy a new car. Just kidding I have to do this shit to my genesis and this video is extremely helpful
I end up just buying a new used mirror from the junk yard for 75 bucks, easy day...
