2009 Hyundai Genesis brake recall fix
Переглядів 13 тис.7 років тому
the 2009 and 2010 Hyundai Genesis had brake recalls from corrosive fluid. The "fix" was to replace the brake fluid. The rest of the components had already been slightly corroded be nevermind that....until the brake module fails. Replace with one from a 2013.

    Don't cut the skid , place for the oil filter. I just remove the front bolts and bend the skid plate down ,to have access to the filter housing ,then back up to reinstall.

    Great vid Scott! Any 09-14 will work..BUT, you absolutely need to ONLY exchange your original pump that is connected to your brake module by unscrewing the 4 star screws and carefully prying apart with a knife or flathead. Attach the new pump to your old computer housing and reinstall. If you just install the new module without these steps, the brakes will work but the abs, esc, and brake light will stay on. Your car is married to the old computer and need it to function correctly. Besides this, the pump is usually the issue due to the original corrosive factory brake fluid. Don't forget to bleed system after.💯💯

      I don't recall exactly. There's a lot of shapes that you can get just by searching for them but I think I had to cut this one to get it big enough for my hand and an oil filter to get through. There's a really great guy named CJ laser cutting in Florida who you can email and he'll cut you anything out of steel and send you a Paypal invoice.. just tell him to cut you a circle from 1/8 inch thick steel plate that is 4 in ID and a 6 inch OD. There's also a greg at 2twentytwo steel who does similar custom projects.

    Hello. Thanks for the information and video. I'm considering purchasing a 2011 Hyundai Genesis with elect brakes and adaptive cruise control. It has an open recall for the brake cap, and im.sure had the standard dealer repair for the abs system you referred to in the video. The oem part number for the abs control module is (58920-3N3A0). I believe it would be worth the chance if I could apply your fix to the car. My question is, was your vehicle a v8 or v6 and will that matter regarding the 2013 swap? The car I'm considering is a v6. Thks I know this is an old post but maybe you can assist and let us know how your cars braking system is holding up. Thks again

    same question thanks, I have a 2015 genesis all the lights coming on told by different dealer the ABS Module is the propblem. The dealer purchased from was worthless. I was just told $2400 for ABS Module and found part on e-Bay $72 -$260 and up. if i get the part and need the tech and his machine to bleed the brakes should I even try doing any of this myself? or have the same tech do all of it? I was already told by my shop unable to install because cannot program it.

    • @scottkamper
      @scottkamper 2 роки тому

      You need to ask your mechanic who is the most capable mechanic in your city. my mechanic recommended a better guy and they were willing to install it and reprogram it but the reprogramming was not needed. I do not think you can do it yourself. I think Hyundai switch to brake fluids a few years after my 2009. There's no way to be sure that you have the same problem as the earlier years

    Hi, I know this thread is quite old but hopefully you or someone else may be able to respond. I have a 2009 Genesis 3.8 sedan and I just recently started having the common brake issue I assume is due to corrosion in my ABS module. My car’s module has the part number 58920-3M050. You said you put a newer module with part number 58920-3M060 in your 2009 and was it a direct fit replacement? I just wanted to verify before trying to purchase one myself and I don’t want to buy one prior to 2013 so that it hopefully won’t have the corrosion issue. Thanks!

    • @scottkamper
      @scottkamper 2 роки тому

      My mechanic did the swap and brake bleeding. He did not tell me there was any issues. Look up the recall and confirm the year that they fixed it. If they fixed it in 2011 then you could get a 2012 part. I'm not sure of that anymore.

    How have your brakes been thus far after posting this video? I recently just purchased a 2010 hyundai genesis with 75k miles on it and it had the dot 3 replaced with the dot 4 fluid but I am still concerned that corrosion may have already taken place in the HECU that I cannot see which is why I'll probably go ahead and do the correct fix for it and not the bs Hyundai tried to pass off as a "fix" because after the additives wear off in the dot 4 fluid the system is open to corrosion again.

    Hello, not related to the brakes, but I heard you say at the time your Genesis had 183,000 miles on it… Have you replaced your transmission fluid? I am looking at buying an 09 genesis with the 4.6. I’m just concerned about the cost of changing the transmission fluid. Having experience points, do you have any insight to this?

    • @scottkamper
      @scottkamper 6 років тому

      Sortof. about a year ago our trans started to click a little bit between gears 4 and 5 (or something like that) It's a sealed, lifetime transmission, meaning that it's rather difficult to change the fluid in and they dont recommend it. also I don't think there is a trans fluid dipstick on it. Also, there is No Haynes Manual for this car, since only *apparently* only wealth bring-it-in-to-the-dealer type people own these cars. If you search the transmission compatibility you will find that it's a German transmission also install in mazerattis and a bunch of other high-power cars. All that to say it's pretty well built and probably won't self destruct for a lot of miles. My mechanic said don't worry about it and it'll last a reeeeeallllly long time, so we drive on. 204,000 miles and counting. It could really use some new struts in the near future. It's the best car I or any of my siblings have ever owned and if it gets in a wreck, we'll probably cry.....then wait to buy another one.

    After swapping the unit, did you have to reprogram it? How about bleeding the brakes? Thank you in advance.

    • @scottkamper
      @scottkamper 7 років тому

      You can disassemble the plastic housing on the brake module, and remove the "computer". do this to both units and swap them. Then install the 'new' module (with the computer that was programmed to your car) into your car. Yes you will have to bleed the brakes. you will need an advanced diagnostic computer, and then you just tap "bleed brakes" on the screen and the car will go "brrrrrr.....Beeeeeepp..... mweerrrrp" and they will be bled. no tools required. You might want to have a mechanic shop do that for you.
