Henry Gross singing his biggest hit Shannon at a private event. Check out Henry's website for new music and send Henry a personal email www.henrygross.com henry@henrygross.com
Ok, did as you said to do, I dropped Henry a short e-mail saying "hi" and asking to know when he his next gig would be in southwest Florida. That was this morning. By 5pm my phone rang. It was Henry Gross. After my wife revived me w/ smelling salts, I spoke at length w/ Henry about music, life, radio, Naples, Nashville, diets, Jack and cokes, karate, and on and on and on. What a thrill. And what a helluva nice guy! Henry renewed my faith in mankind in just 1 call. What an amazing day. :-)
I saw/met Henry Gross at the ShaNaNa Reunion at Columbia University last Friday night,(6/3/16). He is FANTASTIC!!!! Still sounds GREAT!!!!! He's a VERY NICE person. Thanks Henry for signing my shirt......
This song represents everything that was right about the mid 70s. A timeless classic. I can still smell the bunk of my sleep away camp when I hear this song. Thank you Henry Gross for being part of my youth.
This song always makes me cry , cause I miss all my family that have passed away I pray they are together on a Island with a shady tree just like the one in our back.
Absolutely beautiful. I was watching a infomercial for a 70"s set of music when they played about five seconds of this. I said my god I had forgotten this beautiful song. Of coarse I came to UA-cam where I can relive my life in music. I grew up in the Top 40 era of great radio. Thank you Mr Gross. You are looking and sounding great.
Henry Gross's "Plug Me Into Something" was voted in a popular poll into the top ten for the 70's...which, considering the talent in that decade, is OUTSTANDING. This song shows why.
Funny thing....I've played small clubs for years and years. Country Folks, Rockers, Bluegrass...It doesn't matter. THIS song always saves my butt! (And I never get tired of singing it) Thanks Henry. You are a class act. Tim
We just had to put our 14 yr old lab/retriever Lacy to sleep and I thought about this song. It was gut wrenching to see my girls holding onto her and sobbing as Lacy got her final injection. But she passed with her family holding and stroking her as she breathed her last. I told my girls about this song and I played it all day. I loved it in 1976 and I love it now. Thanks for the memories Henry...and Lacy!
Love this song...Takes me back to Summer '76....Our beautiful golden retriever passed away in 2009 aged 12 ...this song always brings tears to my eyes when i hear it....Beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Still hitting those high notes!! The best songs are the ones that spill out of the heart quickly and need little change. This is the perfect example of that!!! Thanks for a wonderful tune, and one that has become the biggest tear jerker for all of us pet lovers when we must say goodbye to our little family members.....the ones that everyone in the family gets along with!!
WOW!!! I am so relieved. I heard a BOGUS story years ago saying we lost Henry Gross in Nam. I am SOOO glad he is still with us. Sing it Henry!!! You are an ICON.
This came out the year I graduated from high school. Then, it went with me to Troy State University and I swear I think I wore that album out down there! Your falsetto was amazing then, and it still is today! I read the back story - the true story (as told by you) about Carl Wilson, your encounter with his Huskies, and his mentioning his “Shannon” which planted the seed for that beautiful song. After all these many years Henry, you can still hit that falsetto with power! I do hope you’ll be touring close to Birmingham sometime. It would be worth a “road-trip” to see you play. Like so many others have said, you’ve definitely still got it!
Henry Gross recommended this video after I contacted him regarding the passing of a mutual friend. I was surprised to hear back from him directly. Damn, Henry can still hit those notes!
One of the 70's most touching ballads that sounds fresh and moving till today. Great to see Henry keeps his voice intact. Thanks for the video and for celebrating the great music of the 70's. Best from Chile.
Flawless, genuine and honest as the day is long. Just lost our beautiful Bella, 13 and a half year old golden retriever due to her back legs giving out. Listening to this song multiple times is helping ease the pain of our loss. Thank you Henry for being there when needed. God bless!
My Brother named his Daughter after the title of this song. He didn't care what the song was about , he just loved the sound ,voice and talent Henry delivered this song with.
What a GREAT voice this man still has!! PLEASE tell him that I'm just a punk kid born in '78, that LOVES his work!!! I first heard this song on a Time-Life commercial when I was a kid...this was my favorite song on the entire 30 minute infomercial. Been listening ever since I pointed it out to my Mom, and she had the record. =)
geez he looks and sounds fantastic - not sure how people who were his age in 1976 can say this. Excellent post - congrats and best wishes to Henry and I still have the LP !
Very simply...Amazing...even after all these years...what a great voice and seems like a top shelf humble person....I remember when I heard this song for the first time on the radio in the 70's... This and 'My Maria' by B.W. Stevenson, were great songs by a rare breed, even more rare these days, GREAT songrwriters who were also GREAT singers...
Oh yea, still got it. Funny how this may be about a beloved pet, but so universal like all great songs. Could be about a friend, brother, sister lost love or pet. Crushes!
Awesome, great voice, still sounds like years past. Great high notes, this song so touches my heart. We have had precious dogs we have lost, but they remain in our hearts and memorizes forever.
WOW... Absolutely Stellar! ~ And the award goes to......HENRY GROSS !!! Still, after all these years.. Thank-you so much for sharing this.. It just brings back a lot of great memories..
I was 9 years old when this song was a big hit on the radio....hearing this (beautifully done by the way) again took me right back to being that carefree 9 year old.
I remember this song I was 9 also in 1976 and I never knew it was about a dog. Such a beautiful song he has an amazing voice and looks and sounds great.
I have always loved Shannon even before I heard the story behind it. I got to see Henry perform it in The Villages a couple of years ago. It can still bring tears to my eyes. After his show I bought one of his CD’s and took it over to him to autograph. He was very personable and approachable. He asked me my name, and I told him “Mark.” He said that was his middle name, and jokingly accused me of stealing his name, and that’s how he autographed my CD...”to Mark, who stole my name, Henry Gross. Great guy!
Over the past year i have watched the studio version of Shannon here several hundred if not a thousand times, and am shocked that it took until today for this video to show up on my you tube page. I heard this song on the radio about a year ago and remembered how much I loved it. I spent the next week playing it over and over and over again then researched it and found out that it was about a dog, then played it another hundred times while bawling my eyes out.Lol.I have 15rescued dogs and one of them happens to be named Henry!..(he's a dark brown brindle swirl boxer mix-big lovebug). It's probably the most beautiful song ever written and recorded. It's the most perfect expression of love and grief.
i heard this song just now on the radio at work -- did a quick search - and there's my old friend that sat next to me in high school ! --- how cool is the internet !! henry - you look good - happy holidays - a timeless great song that should have been updated a few times
Henry G, you are super and your love for Shannon will go on forever. When I first listened to this song back in the late 70s or was I wong? it was in the early 80's? I have 7 dogs to care for.
Great to view and listen to this performance. Henry looks well and happy and still giving a strong performance. Thanks for your comment on mine and for posting this event. :-)
Shannon was the first song that made me cry , at the time I was 12 years old and I thought it was about a girl that went out to swim in the ocean , got caught in the riptide and drowned .... but the music is so sad , sweet and heart touching that now in my fourties every time I listen to it I got teary eyes .
Euless Tx. Midway Park Elem. 6th grade,,, 1976-77 if we got to school early Mrs. Allen would let us play 45 records before class started... Shannon, Stand Tall and The Hustle to name just a few... LOVE this song ,,, LOVE those times... much appreciation here
Great voice. First concert I ever went to back in the early 70s...Henry opened for the Doobie Brothers in Charlotte NC. He was fantastic! Love your music Henry!
Fantastic !! A true musician ! On a totally different level to today's so called popstars. I can't believe he can still achieve those high notes ! Wow !
As the years pass, and ever so swiftly, it's wonderful to hear beautiful songs such as this which bring back fond memories. Appreciate posting. Always loved his voice.
Similar comments. Brings back tears mixed with happiness. My boyfriend at the time played the song over and over again. I went off to university and we parted, I’ll never forget how the song mixed with my own feelings gave me my first love. Was the ind the one that got away. I think of him daily, even though it’s my youth.

Thank you sir. I love this song. Brings back so much to me.
This song always makes me cry , cause I miss all my family that have passed away I pray they are together on a Island with a shady tree just like the one in our back.
I get it. Singing a song about a dog may seek trivia to some, but what you have done has transcended 40 plus years. My hat's off to you.
Glad to see he's still singing, song makes you want to cry. Timeless, thank you Henry 😀
Absolutely beautiful. I was watching a infomercial for a 70"s set of music when they played about five seconds of this. I said my god I had forgotten this beautiful song. This song makes me cry. Like a baby. I love dogs so much that I can’t bear to think of them being lost or dying. The most wonderful companions.
Tears.......I said farewell to my girl, my rock and best friend ever on dec 19th I miss you sweet girl beyond words
I'm know it's been years since you wrote this but I'm so sorry you lost her. I feel your pain in my own life now.
When I was young I didn't know the song was about a dog I loved it, finding out Shannon was a dog made it even more special.
SO AWESOME, amazing that his voice still is crystal clear and on point. What an amazing artist!
Henry appreciates all the comments and hopes you are able to see him live this year and check out his new music.

Wow, Henry!!! You've still got the pipes!!!! Such a great song. Keep on keepin' on!!!
What a beautiful song. Two things I need in my life music and my unconditional giving and loving dogs. I love you Henry xx
No T&A or glitzy performance with over the top media blitz. Just and honest and heartfelt performance from a man and his guitar. Beautiful.
The song was awesome then ....and 47 years later...still awesome !!! thanks Henry for the memories
