- Last night (June 26, 2019) I had the great honor to play piano onstage on a song I have always loved, with its original writer/performer and my high school band mate Henry Gross. Much thanks to Henry and Bowzer for the invite (Bowzer's Rock and Roll Dance Party), Frank W. Torres for the great sound, Rocky and the Rollers, and all involved. Love Henry!!
Wow, he has been Blessed to be able to sing as best as his Original. We have all been Blessed to have been part to the great memories Henry has provided us. Thank you!
I worked with Henry back in the early 1970’s. He was an A&M solo artist and I worked in promotion. What a voice and stage presence.
I can't believe people are just randomly walking around during this beautiful song.
I was thinking the same. It's mesmerizing.
They ain’t gotta clue.
Me neither! I was just thinking the same thing. Even if you were walking around, why would you not sit down when you heard this song starting?
My thoughts exactly and more importantly SHUT YOUR CAKE HOLES UP!!! some of us came to listen to the band.
That is exactly what I was just thinking.
Just Great.
Henry Gross is a great artist and fine human being. Such a terrific song.
Amazed he can still reach the high notes, great performance
its called singing falsetto and it takes years to train a male voice to do this
Wonderful live version of Shannon
Loved this song when it came out and still do. Also loved San Diego County Fair when I used to live there. This song is such a tear jerker especially for all of us who have experienced the loss of our dog. One of the best songs ever recorded.
Yep, this one and Elvis' "Old Shep" brought me to tears every time.
I just listened to this song for the first time in decades, and it made me tear up...about my best pets ever...a couple cats. 😊
I loved this song as a teen. Still do. Highly underrated artist Henry Gross.
I would have stopped in my tracks to listen to Henry Gross as well as legends Sha na na
Thanks for this memory Henry. Lost two dogs in a special period. One cancer. Got a new one sparky and he was run over on a Sunday afternoon TX to my neighbors getting lose. People kept driving. I'm pretty much a single male and they were all I had. Never forgot coming home that Sunday afternoon after leaving the vet and him dying on the vet table with me. The absolute loneliest days in my 60 years if life. Thanks for caring about animals and your music. Life goes on but some memories are just difficult.
Loved Gross’ song SHANNON. Makes me cry still. Sometimes it’s good to cry ! GODSPEED HENRY!
Henry Gross sounds the same as he did in the 70's
Growing up we had 2 irish setters around the same time this song was released. I would've been 4 or 5
R.I.P. Shannon 😢🐕
How can yu not love this song. One of my favorites from back in the day.
I never knew Shannon was about a dog. This song is tied to a special memory for me. A friend of mine had a mother who's name was Shannon. She did not survive a terrible car accident. Shortly after the accident the song Shannon was released. I hope you're well Todd and may your mother rest in peace...
Great song!
Touching story! As a young boy whenever this song would play, in my mind's eye I envisioned a dog getting taken out to sea and drowning. Even though it was a song, I was devastated. I guess it speaks to the amazing bond between humans and their best friends.
Love that Beach Boys sound
What a sound is a truly great song! One of my favorite albums ! Thank you Henry.
I saw Henry open for Kansas and Fleetwood Mac in Omaha mid 70s when Shannon came out. Fleetwood had Rhiannon arounf the same time. What a great concert
Reminds me of the summer I went to university. Played it with my boyfriend daily. Fab memories every time I hear the song. Ginny. Thanks for those great days. Have stayed with me. My youth.
Henry is Amazing!!!!! What a songwriter & singer!!!! I would love if we could see him in concert & shake his hand! Bravo, & thanks for all the great music Henry!!!!! I have all your music.
Awesome!!!!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Still sounds great! Beautiful song. One of my favorite falsettos, up there with Brian Wilson's.
After all these years, high notes are not a problem for Henry. Loved this song back in 76, memories of an old girlfriend I was dating in Jacksonville, NC when I was stationed at Camp LeJeune.
Greeting from New Zealand. Classic!! One of my all time favs.... Cheers
Memories of my late Roxie, that's her to your left. She died on Valentine's Day 2021, as I layed beside her, held her and looked into her eyes as she took her last breath 💔. Then I cried like a baby.
just wonderful!
Great song!
Black hat man gets it.
Excellent. I thought of this song and played it after I had to have my 13-year-old golden retriever put down last year. Henry thank you for giving us such a wonderful sentiment.
Thanks for sharing this piece of rock history !! I also have had the great honor to have worked & toured with so many greats in Rock & Roll !
KEEP ROCKIN & KEEP THE FAITH
Joe, I enjoyed watching you and Henry, Thanks for posting. Marc Bloom
SHANNON named my daughter after this
My GIRLHOOD. THANK YOU, Henry.
sounds great !!
My daughter's name is Shannon I love this song
EXCELLENT. ONE OF MY FAV SONGS AS A KID
Different but still incredibly powerful, and still elicits tears. Can somebody pass me a kleenex? Those folks wandering around checking FB were obviously not born in the 70's.
This may sound crazy but I was just going to leave a message to Henry Gross, that he should link up with John Bowser Bauhman and perform Shannon with him! The UA-cam gods must have read my mind. 😆 Great song! I heard it on Columbus radio Saturday and have been singing it every since!
Great tune. Always love to hear it. Thanks for sharing. Your piano playing is lovely.
Very nice piano playing.
I named my daughter after the song Shannon in 1977. she just found out it was about a dog lol
Casey Kasem said it was about one of the beach boys dog that got hit by a car. 😥😥
Never mind I just heard in this video.
It was 1976!
@@jonogren5567 I'm pretty sure my daughter was born in 1977 lol. ya missed my meaning. same song different year
@@marycurtis5148 okay. It was #47 on the top 100 for 1976.
Wow, the dude can still hit the high notes…
10:47 Shannon
Grease for peace
Funny thing is, when I thought it was about a person, this song never made me shed a tear. Knowing now that it was about a dog, I'm crying like a little kid. Go figure.🤣
10 mins in still no song.....10:48
The video is 16 mins long. Were you expecting an extended guitar rock out version of Shannon?
@@hazeyjane119 LOLOL. Had to skip ahead.
Doing the lord's work, thank you
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Dogs just dont make me happy ! love the song .i love people and find joy in people not Pets . I see women triing to date on apps.they show thier dog they kiss thier dog pictures they dont need a man they got the dog !
My dogs make me a lot happier than many of the fools running around these days doing street takeovers, carjackings, mob thefts, mass shootings, and your everyday, run of the mill murderers, muggers, racists, and other human garbage. I’d even rather deal with a mad dog than a psychopath human. Human trash never seems to get put down as easily as an animal that’s been mistreated.
Sounds like your jealous. Animals protect and care.
im happy for you ! Hope you have sence enough to take to the woods or dog park and not home depot ,or some resterant
I liked Arnold Horshak better and Eddie and the Cruisers.
