American Beauty is a masterpiece
No, it isn't......Happiness nailed what American Beauty tried to do a whole year before.
Weird I never even heard of that one. Looks interesting I'll check it out @@kstrazz3552
@@kstrazz3552shut up nerd.
100%
Agreed
I like that Kevin gives a ton of credit to his directors and costars and doesn't take credit for things that others did, like when Lex asks if smashing the plate was improvised and he said no, wasn't his idea
I actually remember reading that, spacey was the only one who was told to smash the plate, not Annette or his daughter. So their reactions were real. Great scene btw. Another favorite of mine was when Annette fails to sell the house in the beginning of the movie and has a complete breakdown and is sobbing balling her eyes out. And that turns into anger and calling herself a baby and smacks herself then finally ends the scene with getting herself composed and fine again to go home. Amazing acting.
He has to try and ingratiate himself 😂
Kevin Spacey is one of the greatest actors ever and here he gives a tremendous performance as "gracious actor Kevin Spacey." He's showing Hollywood he can still make nice and play the game, and for god's sake let him back in, he's one of the greatest actors ever, and a lot of what he says in this interview is genuinely insightful on his own films and Hollywood and general. But he was being more authentic in character as Frank Underwood with Tucker Carlson than he is here.
I am going to watch American beauty today for the first time. Thank you Lex and Keven.
One of the best films ever made imo. As a teenager around the time it came out it moved me a LOT.
You won’t regret it 👍
How did you like it??
It will change your life
American Beauty was my film awakening. It was the first non-blockbuster movie I watched and it opened me up to being interested in more thoughtful films.
A stoner who runs -There a few of us .
My year too. 1999 was a hell of a year to get interested by films. American Beauty, The Matrix, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Virgin Su1c1des, Fight Club, it was really intense
Me too, the year I transitioned from blockbusters and “teen movies” to adult films.
Man…Spacey and Lex are really easy to listen to. Both have a very calming way of speaking.
In American Beauty, his character gives up a fake life to express who he really is. In The Usual Suspects, his character puts on a fake persona to hide who he really is. Versatile acting range, I believed both.
In America Beauty, he wasn't living a fake life. He just wasn't realising the beauty of it. That's what he realises in his final moments when he's looking at a photograph of himself and his family.
@@leon327 Great point
American History X has the greatest losing-your-shit-at-the-dinner-table scene. We don’t get the subtle evolution of Edward Norton’s character, he has a full-on coming out in that scene. Incredible performance.
Love American Beauty. Changed my perspective on adulthood.
If I had to pick a favorite movie of all time… American Beauty is probably what I’d pick
Kevin is the best actor we have. Bring him back in full force. Verbal/Keiser was astoundiing. His Lemon impession is one of his many excellent turns. Pacino, Brando, Hepburn.
Kevin?
He does Walken pretty well too
That’s a hard one when some one is talented but cursed . No where close but Howard Hughes genius and expression on the world also came with inability in other departments of life. No way am I saying this man and what he’s done is genius or a part of the craft because there’s many actors not with a background like Kevin’s. Neither the less he’s a made man there’s people backing him and require funds of his acting so he seems to be coming back but not from a prestigious event . No one is perfect neither me but there’s civil events and his help is helping him self and all the other elites while he goes and has his “fun” then getting caught.
@@mattwho187 What exactly has he done though? Do you know?
He was acquitted of all charges.
@@biocyklelots of guilty people get aquitted
His Jack Lemmon impression was great 😂
(1) American Beauty is one of the best movies ever made.
(2) That was a profound ending to this video.
I got to see it in the theatre. I loved that movie and still do.
One of the greatest moments of my life was working with him on House of Cards Season 2, chapter 18. Class act all the way around.
Did he try to grab your junk? That's sort of what he's famous for
So great to hear my favorite actor talking about acting! Get back where you belong KS
Damn Lex! With that beard, you're starting to look like David Beckam
Favourite Hollywood movie hands down. Just perfect.
I don't know what to think about Kevin spacey and his allegations. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I don't believe his accuser.
Did you watch him address them at all here or in the Dan Wootton interview? He admits that he was no saint but stories were definitely exaggerated or the truth was bent by accusers. Or they just took things the wrong way when Kevin wasn’t trying to be malicious. He was just a persistent, clumsy flirt
He's literally friends with Ghislane Maxwell there's photos
@@dropdead6969yes sir they are all island hoppers
It's just a clumbsy flirt with a 14 year old boy. Y ou Make me S ick. @ajhornes
I agree Annette Bening should have gotten the Oscar. I appreciate he pronounced Gallagher correctly
It doesn't matter how you feel about Mr Spacey. Mr Spacey is innocent, now leave him alone.
Or more guilty than one could ever begin to imagine until it’s staring them right in the face.
At 39- Years old I can truly say that this movie moves me and does make me cry and think about my life. What a great film. That your normal everyday person can relate too
Can't forget Annette Benning in this as well. Just incredible.
This man is so severely grandiose
Hard to swallow with that much jealousy in your mouth
He’s just cultured. I don’t see him being pretentious or pompous in anyway. He’s also constantly crediting the rest of his colleagues every time he’s asked about his greatest performances
If you like _American Beauty_ I have to recommend the HBO show _Six Feet Under_ for those who haven’t seen it. It was created by Alan Ball (who wrote the screenplay for AB). One of the greatest TV shows of all time.
Lemon and him in Glen Gary
was some of the best acting I’ve ever seen
This man should not have been cancelled…they need to jail the false accusers
They can’t for the most part. Most of them are dead.
Hasnt he admitted to doing awful stuff to minors and extras
I don’ t know about the accusers, but Spacey should NEVER have been cancelled.
Kevin isn’t innocent but he’s one of MANY in Hollywood who engaged with underrage people. He’s just one of the unlucky few who got exposed.
The stories are all true, man. I worked in film in Vancouver and heard stories for years. He's a pedo rapist, and you're out here simping for him. Pathetic.
Love hearing spacey stories on movies and before he became famous. He is such a badass talented actor, who needs to be back on the big screen. Spacey is my favorite actor of all time and lights up the screen. My favorite movie with him is a 3 way Tie with Se7en, xpax and negotiator. And of course the creative badass will written show House of Cards. Frank underwood is my second favorite fictional president, my first is Bill Pullman in Independence Day. Kevin is the jack of all trades , he’s a beautiful singer, director, writer, producer and of course actor. I have been researching and studying the 3 cases Mr. Spacey was summoned to and I’m disgusted. No evidence or facts at all against him!! I’m surprised it was sent to court because of statute of limitations. He was found innocent all 3 times . I can’t believe his career was put on hold because of nothing more than high school rumors. Please do your research before spreading false information. No kids was in any of the court Proceedings. The “14 year old” is 59 years old, he Accused spacey over 40 years later! I stand with Spacey because I did my research and found him absolutely innocent of all he was accused of in court. I’m not saying Mr spacey is a saint but a innocent man trying to go back on the big screen. I stand with you spacey and stay strong. Please don’t get easily brainwashed by the media
It's unfortunate that they let him go from House of Cards. That was a great role.
It’s sad this man is embroiled in so much controversy. He is a phenomenal actor.
My favorite character is Ricky. Wes Bentley, in the dancing bag video scene, makes me cry every time.
What worries me about Kevin. Is that, even in his interview, he still seems like he's performing. Nothing comes off. Natural and honest. It's still feels like he's acting.
Spacey is amazing. Loving the interview
his friend Jeffrey Epstein was even better actor for about the same period of time
Wes Bentley's narration over the dancing in the wind shopping bag was for me the highlight of this movie.
I definitely need to rewatch American Beauty. I haven’t seen it since high school and I’m sure most of the film flew over my head at the time
He really knows how to use a microphone.
Fantastic movie.
The piano theme “Any Other Name” is the most incredible piece of music in film.
Nice to see him back. He is a great actor. I've missed him.
Best screenplay
Excellent interview Lex. Another flawed American treasure. He’ll be back.
I saw American Beauty 4 times in the theater.
I’ve seen it so many times I can’t count. I’d do WFH with it in the background.
Great conversation
I see acting
Man….i’ve never not liked that guy….i like him more now.
The impressions 😁😲👏👏!
American beauty is entertaining. My favorite part is Lester getting tired of the wife’s sh!t & not caring about her opinions & instructions.
I’ve heard this guy makes people miserable on set and with petty annoyances , it’s disappointing tbh
AB is a masterpiece.
Sexy Lexy...LOVE ❤️ the facial hair!!!
“It’s just a couch!”
I always thought, well, it's just a car
Kinda sad that he got cancelled…
Lex why does Kevin get a pass? you know what I mean.
This is a great interview, I can be hours and hours listening Kevin talking about his craft. No one has been able to take his place, he is greatly missed. I'll be watching American Beauty tonigth in my old DVD 😂❤
One of the best movies ever made.
Well now i kinda want to see a cut of spacy flying lol
15:11 So that explains why, on the DVD making of featurette, there's cast interviews where the actors are in a courtroom.
The soundtrack for American Beauty is phenomenal. That Bag scene is to parts, it's the bag dancing in the wind, and it's the music.
Don't forget about moe-lester
Profound intellect.
It's so sad when great actors turn put to be monsters.
He turned out to be not guilty
This is kinda painful to watch.
how so?
im guessing cause hes not in films anymore
My top 5 favorite movie ever.
Been a fan, best interview ever.
American Beauty is probably my favourite of the last 30yrs.. Three Billboards a close second.
Spacey come back tour is really on. Expecting Tim Dillon on then Andrew Schultz probably up next
One of your best interviews Lex. Remarkably wise questions that brought out the most from Kevin.
I’m cool with Spacey continuing to prove himself moving forward.
For @Netflix not to re-engage House of Cards is a financial blunder.
This man will continue to catch issue and hate, from the catch of 7 years of shadow, but I believe his art will persevere and provide us the standard we’ve been missing since the death of cable.
We need souls that understand film and acting. And we’ve been starved of that for 9 years. Netflix and HBO jumped in to fill the void of quality from 2012 through to 2019. While the big houses were pattern theory building, and homogenizing out the new or encamped proven talent.
This is huge! Great interview Lex!!!
“It’s shit.” 😂
Spacey's anecdotes personify him as "the banality of evil."
Def one of the best movies of all time. Beautiful story. Changed the way I experience art
This is the best interview with Kevin Spacey I’ve seen, since the allegations. He’s relaxed and seems genuine.
One of my favourite movies. Watched it like 100 times. Genius 👌
Great Idea having him on
Yes, now allegiances are even clearer than before this interview.
Hey ask him about his dear friendship with Ghislane Maxwell sitting in the queens throne
Ghislaine was an upper level socialite. There’s going to be famous people in pictures with her who had nothing to do with the operation. There’s going to be people in pictures with her who did. Casting every person who ever crossed paths with her as part of her operation is not very bright
He talks about that in the Piers Morgan interview. He claims he didn't know her, she just happened to be there.
@@gmann6269 right 😂
That Jack Lemmon impression was spot on 🤣🤣🤣
Impressive
I love you Kevin! I don't believe a damn word those demons say about you. You are a good man
Amazing movie.
Lex is like a young Sean Penn.
American Beauty is a perfect movie and Kevin is amazing
There's depths to a interview that only Mr Fridman can get to. I feel blessed to see his interviews. I think him are Rogan are on the same shelf just different styles. They both are great at interviewing long format.
He is such a good actor and so good with words and emotions that any chance of finding truth as an audience is hard to find.
The Apartment is the best ROMCOM ever made
Anyone else think this guy is boring to interview?
Poor mike torsha, this creep did a number on him
Brilliant man, amazing actor. I miss him.
Lex looks as good as I've ever seen. #postjungle
One of the best actors of our generation.
Kevin's in some of the greatest films I've seen.
Glad to see Kevin back. Great actor.
The real tragedy is that anyone under 45 now has no idea who Jack Lemmon was.. 😢❤
(and that was a spot on impression, btw).
I’m 38 I was lucky enough to catch grumpy old men, out to sea, and the odd couple…..Also, as a very young boy Walter Matthau made me laugh sooooo much.
I think that American beauty has aged very well over the years since Kevin was found non-guilty, besides I would like Hollywood to give him a second chance to get back and reivent his career as an actor, he deserves it.
if he was not guilty i think itd still be his first chance
Spacey has his faults but is a brilliant actor
Get there Kevin.
Man this whole interview was so dam great!
11:35: That is a great question.
Amazing man and beautiful human being
Reminds me so much of my daddy John Thompson and my boyfriend Baldwin.
It makes me so proud to see them flourish like this. ❤
Stay strong Kevin
We stand by you.
AM I LIKE HIM?
inception lex went balls deep on these americans
