How long before Kevin Spacey is allowed to be uncancelled? Seriously, writes Allison Pearson. It has been almost seven years since Spacey had the leper’s bell hung around his neck. Is it to be a life sentence or are the millions who relish this great actor’s performances to be allowed to see him back where he belongs, on stage and screen?

Kudos to the interviewer , who asked ALL of the tough questions , she didn’t skip a beat , but she also was compassionate without coddling him or making it a fluff interview . Well done .

She is an excellent UK Journalist who writes for the Telegraph and is co presenter in a weekly podcast called Planet Normal
I met Kevin once - at a SNL party after he had hosted the show. I was a fan, not an industry person at the time, and he patiently answered all my questions. He was a lovely guy, and I appreciated the time he gave me (right) in the middle of a storming party. Life is complicated.
I'll watch anything Spacey does. Hell, I'll buy two tickets to the next Kevin Spacey film. Just about every performance I've seen of him, he was a powerhouse.
He is a hugely talented guy and we are all at a loss of him not being there.
More importantly the courts override public opinion and having been exonerated he should be allowed to proceed without judgement with his professional life. No doubt he has learned and will be much more careful in how he conducts his private life. But please give him a chance and let him move on.
Never met him, never spoke or being next to him.
I will nevertheless be forever grateful to Kevin Spacey for the joy , thrill and pleasure of the characters he has created.

Don't know if Kevin Spacey is guilty or not to all these things BUT he does have a point that people were extremely quickly to judge. Everything happened so fast without much evidence, thought or anything else. If guilty.. Put him away. "Cancel Culture" is not the right way.
I’ve always thought he’d be back, but superstardom would never be his again. He’ll easily find work, but that work will probably be regional theatre or microbudget Eurasian productions that get buried on VOD.

Yes. It's mostly about money, though, no noble intentions. Corporations are afraid to lose money so they fire people and reshoot scenes in movies. They would even put a finished film on ice just because Spacey acted in it. That means the work of thousands of crew members was for nothing. I hope that the Gore Vidal biopic will be finally released.

I watched the documentary last week only because he has been one of my favorite actors. I’m reading all the comments of love and support and the fact that this was a really good interview. She did it exactly the way it should be done.
But I’m still having a hard time accepting that these men that seemed so vulnerable and so authentic and real and had the same sense of shame and embarrassment I’ve seen with women that have been through the same experiences that I’ve never seen before with men. I know they are raised not to cry or not to be emotional and I thought they were being very vulnerable and real. I love Kevin but I’m sorry I do believe the men in that documentary. I know I’m probably the only one that’s going to say this but I did not feel that they were lying. What would be the agenda of going up into the public forum and share their experiences?

Great 2 hour interview / discussion on Lex Fridman’s podcast a few days ago. Massive shame on UK legacy media - yet again. Alison Pearson is a very good interviewer.
I would still watch movies with Kevin Spacey. The only way to counter cancel culture is through fan support.
All i can say is I've missed his film and theatrical work - he's among the greatest actors out there. I am also happy he is surrounded by people who care about him.

Excellent interview by Allison Pearson. She asked very tough questions, not skirting around the issues. Kevin Spacey seemed to be very open and honest. I appreciate the fact that he wasn't evasive even on the most difficult questions. A good lesson in not judging someone until all the facts are on the table.
''very tough questions''? Which were they? She obviously was sympathetic to Spacey from the get go and her questions reflected that. Ms Pearson said at one time that nothing that Spacey was accused of was a crime in law. Since when has masturbating in a cinema, a public place, not been a crime? Are US citizens allowed to do that?

What people seem to ignore is that his accusers saw a cash cow and with all the panic around MeToo, they saw easy money.

He was found not guilty. All these people saying "Not guilty in the court of law, but he's still guilty" are idiots. The court of law exists for a reason. Justice must be objective and logical. The problem for Spacey, with this new documentary, is that the allegations are specific and overlap quite a bit. The accusers are credible and paint a picture of a deeply disturbed man who used his fame to protect himself.

Thoughtful, meaningful interview. Interviewer was compassionate but straightforward and skilled. Kevin was open, sincere and likable. Of course, I've always like him. He's a brilliant actor. But he's also a kind, gentle and funny man. I hope to see him doing what he loves and does better than most - acting. He is a prime example of a flawed human (aren't we all!) who more than deserves a bright new future.

I’m so heartbroken to hear Kevin speak his truth but at the same time so proud of him in telling it so authentically and organically. He was really given the shaft by everyone. I’ve always loved him as the most incredible actor of his generation. This just adds another layer of greatness and I pray he finds the love of his life and lives in peace and harmony. The downside to being one of the World's Best Actors is that we will never be able to know whether Kevin Spacey is being genuine or not. But he was acquitted on all charges. I’ve always liked Kevin. A great actor. And I believe he’s learned from his mistakes and should be allowed to work again. I also believe at least some of what his accusers have said as well. I think his was an extreme case of hubris and ego. But, again, I feel he’s learned and should be allowed to show his redemption. Nobody should be cancelled forever if they’ve learned their lessons. It’s just humane.
I’m so glad I found this interview with Mr. Spacey after watching the MAX broadcast a few nites ago. I feel better about how Kevin is responding to these accusations and look forward to his return to acting as he has always been a favorite. He is sorry for anything he has done wrong and we need to forgive him and move on.

I believe that an actor's personal life is his very own, and as long as it doesn't interfere with his acting/performance, who are we to judge. What has been done to Kevin Spacey is simply atrocious and all the big movie producers that would pay anything to have him on a movie and are now, in this day and age, turning their backs on him as if he had some horrible contagious disease should be ashamed of themselves and deserve no respect

Poor Kevin. The public court of opinion is horrific. To the people who still believe he is guilty... God forbid any one of them ever have a false accusation made against them. We need to somehow find ways to allow innocent people to shed these horrible rumors

Why would so many people come forward to lie? I think Kevin is in denial and even more so because he was found innocent of the charges against him.
The likelihood of women lying about SA is less than 1%. It’s a lot less for men coming forward with allegations too.
I can’t blame him for thinking he can act his way of this but I think he’s bitten off a bit more than he can chew here.

I believe Mr. Spacey. I always have. I reached out to him in his darkest hour. His Masterclass on Acting is a must have. The man is passionate about acting. He supported and helped so many. Anyone can be targeted or lied about and zeroed out. We live in Twitter times and viral Video bloodshed. The people watching from the other side of the red ropes now try to kick, trip those on the red carpet. Why? Why do some people randomly attack a stranger? Why do other's make false claims just to get noticed? Who can explain away the actions of a sad desperate or deranged group of people? Who can understand a situation that might have behind the scenes agendas, revenge factors or just no reason what-so-ever. Again, if it's a person, a rival or a studio with a past vendetta or simple people with mental issues how can sense be made of it. Sometimes it's just a wave or fab. So many times. I have seen one-time friends, confess to me, shame they have for false accusations they've made against other friends, against their X's, against police or a landlord or a boss. I used to ask why they did it. They were pissed, rejected, scorned, felt they were disrespected, improperly represented, over-charged, dismissed abruptly - so many reasons that just do not justify the act of using deception and lies to ruin another human being.
I mean he’s a fantastic actor so it’s impossible to know when he’s being authentic.
Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors. I really want him to come back to acting and feel he should be allowed to return. This was a great interview, and it's good to hear him discuss his life and his progress after all is this. But he shouldn't have because people got on a bandwagon and threw him to the wolves. I really hope he has a come back. He worked hard his entire life and deserves it. Scandals in Hollywood have been around forever. It seems that only certain celebrities get targeted while others skate by.
Kevin spacey seems like a much much better and more genuine person that the media has portrayed.

I love his acting. Genius. Is he guilty? Most likely. Many men have come forward. He had a messed up childhood. Can see how his childhood made him escape into his characters.

There should be consequences in law for people who make spurious accusations that are subsequently dismissed in court. If there are no consequences we will continue to see persistent persecution like this.
I was wondering about that too. What about anti-defamation suit like Depp did against Amber Heard? I think the person has to bring a lawsuit against the accused like slander. If it causes someone to lose ability to earn their living, destroy their reputation all due to lies. Idk if Spacey would go that route.

“Not guilty” in court doesn’t mean innocent. Evidence of predator behavior is very difficult to prove with physical evidence.

I miss his talent
I never thought he was guilty of the things he was accused of. Was he perfect? No. Was he tried by public opinion without facts? Yes.
I think he is guilty of all that he was accused of. But , he has been cleared in two courts of law. So he needs to be accepted back in Hollywood . He is a very talented actor who has a right , now , to pursue his expertise like any human being who was declared by a court.
Just bring him back. The film industry misses talent like his. He is a brave human being, facing unjust challenges caused by evil and greedy people.
We have a 7 year lag on art that he could have produced, acted, created. Let him catch up. Let us all enjoy some good acting.
