  • Rather than have to replace your leaky tap cartridge there is a good chance you can fix it with a fairly simple method and some simple tools.
For this example which is fixing a leaking bath mixer the tools required were a 17mm ring spanner, 2.5mm Allen key and some silicone grease.
The silicone grease used here was:

Brill, glad to hear it. Yes finding the right size cartridge is a nightmare. 47 precise measurements and hours of googling seems to be the norm.

Your work is appreciated, it felt so good to stop banging my head on the frozen shores of Glacier Bay replacement parts customer service.

I would add that since you have the unit apart...rinse it in a water and vinegar solution to dissolve the mineral build up.
I can see 'rust' on the outside of the ceramic disc you removed and some of the mineral deposit came off on your fingers.
So soak the unit in vinegar/water (1:1) and gently wipe away the debris. For the internal ceramic bits, soak and then rinse with running water or use a compressor to blow the debris out.

Was that ceramic grease or silicone. You said ceramic in the audio, but it says you used silicone in the description. They have both.

Apologies. Hadn't noticed that. Should definitely be silicone grease. Stuff marketed for plumbers is readily available.

Hi Stewart, no there are many many different sizes which is one reason why it is difficult to find the right size replacements.
