hi cozy friends 💌🧶 the first 1,000 people to use my link will get a full year of Premium membership to Craftsy for only $1.49: go.craftsy.com/morganunraveled/ i’d love to hear what you were working on while watching or what your holy grail knitting tools are! ☕️
This is such a helpful and well done video! I’d definitely love a video on resources you used to teach yourself to knit:) I would love to know how people learn how to read charts and more complicated patterns and how to start learning how to knit cables!
This has essentially just formed my Christmas list 😅 just started knitting after crocheting for three years. Dropped a stitch in a baby blanket, and had to keep frogging cuz it kept unraveling while I tried to fix it. Of course now, after fighting with it for three days, I learn about the laddering thing 🥲
I slightly disagree with getting cheap needles in the beginning. When I first started I got cheap needles over 10 years ago and it discouraged me from even continuing. Recently I picked knitting up again and I got a lykke birchwood set and it’s made a world of a difference. Cheap things will cost you more in the long run.
Thank you for sharing your experience & opinion! I agree, investing in our hobbies is so valuable. However if you aren’t sure knitting is for you, trying new hobbies can be so much more intimidating when it’s expensive to start & it can make it more accessible to offer affordable alternatives. I do agree that purchasing an affordable interchangeable set rather than a bunch of fixed needles is much more affordable in the long run once you’re comfortable spending a bit more 🥰
But to be fair anything can be a project bag. I'm using tote bags and make up bags and those little drawstring dust protectors that sheets or purses etc come in as project bags and it's working just fine
I love mine, I think I need to get 2.25mm too. I have 2.5mm and my sock gauge could stand to be a bit tighter.🫶 and if I do I would use the 2.5’s for the colorwork cuffs!
I recently invested in the large size zip top LL Bean Boat & Tote bag with long straps to go over my shoulder. It’s BIG, but I love it because I can fit everything in it with room to spare. Even my wooden yarn bowl. And, it’s incredibly sturdy.
oh I love that 🥰😍 I forgot to talk about project bags! I mostly use project baskets on the shelf beside me but I also have a small project bag my friend made me that I keep my WIPs in until they outgrow it. I need to get a big one like yours! 😍
I started out with the Chiaogoo 5" metal set that goes up to a size 5mm/US8 and that served me well for my first year, but I found I prefer small circular knitting for sleeves and such so I kept picking up 3" or short fixed to supplement. I also started picking up wooden needles for some projects. Earlier this year I was able to trade some yarn I wasn't going to use for a set of 3" driftwood Lykke needles and having both sets has been so useful. I love seeing what kinds of things people have in their notions bags! It seems like we keep a lot of the same notions with our knitting. I like to make little mini kits with whatever upcycled mint tin size containers I find to stick in each of my project bags, on my desk, in my purse, in my bedside table, etc. I always have a handful of lightbulb stitch markers, at least one more distinctive stitch markers for a BOD marker, a little bundle of the silicone tubing, and a tapestry needle. I like having a set of more pointy tapestry needles and the more blunt bent tip ones. The pointy are good for sewing in ends really securely because you can weave in between plies of a strand. The blunt are better for like sewn bind offs where I specifically don't want to be splitting plies. I also agree that a few crochet hooks are so useful: for picking up dropped stitches, for picking up and knitting a collar or sleeve or something when you have multiple yarns held together, for some kinds of cast-ons, for one way of doing baubles, and the one I've been using one for a lot lately is for K4TOG in a lace pattern. I also think it's useful to have at least a couple tape measures, because it seems like I am always misplacing one when I need it. And like you, I have pain management tucked everywhere: motion sickness meds in the knitting bags I'm most likely to take out in public, but I stash BC powder just about everywhere, including in every knitting bag and notions kit. For moth prevention, my understanding is they have to be actively fragrant to work, so I think you can sand the blocks to reinvigorate the smell, but when using lavender or cedar chips, make sure they're changed out often when the smell dissipates.
omg so many helpful tools & tricks!!! thank you for watching and sharing all your insights & expertise. I love the idea of having several tins with the essential tools in different rooms & WIP bags. definitely going to use some of my extra tins to do that so that I can have my goodies with individual projects! I agree with having lots of stitch markers and some that have charms for the beginning of round! YES on sanding the cedarwood blocks or adding new drops of EO! I should have mentioned that👏
I would suggest for anyone wanting to learn that trying the 9" needles with the largest size (72stitch size) socks is so beneficial. That really had me learning how to use the 9" needles and now that I know it's sooooooooo much faster than magic loop
@@morganunraveled It can get there tho. my typical cast on is 56 stitches and I'm able to knit that now. But I also think tension plays a big part too and I can see how a tighter tension knitter for example would struggle with that.
Love this video! So interesting seeing what notions other knitters swear by. I'm currently knitting "the perfect tee" and using my clover takumi interchange needles. Love watching your videos! And absolutely relate with the toddler life 😊
thank you! oh yes toddler life! it can be so hectic picking up and putting down projects every few minutes but I literally can’t imagine getting through this season of life without my knitting. it really helps me decompress and feel productive😆
I only have one set of wooden needles and I must say I am considering buying another one because I begin to have so many projects that I don't have enough of them anymore ! Thank you for sharing ❤️ I hope you feel better these days, take care ☺️
totally relate, that was my primary motivation for purchasing a second set too! a huge investment but one that is well worth it for me since knitting is my main pastime & making videos around it too!
It has taken a big place in my life too ! I am totally addicted now haha, even got inspired to start a podcast ☺️ sending you good vibes to help with the coping 🫖🍵
I cant remember if you mentioned stitch toppers? If so, sorry! If not, these are my non negotiable accessory! Working on a Manitou Sweater for my husband..just adding it to the enormous WIP list i have hahaha
9:04 idk if it's just me but it glitched out for me at this point 😅 only for a second tho! i love my Chaigoo needles for sleeves and collars! i have the knitter's pride dreamz metal needles and those are my most used needles i bought the barber cord from your previous video that mentioned them and i loveeeeee!!
hm not sure why that’s happened! I’m so glad the barber cords have helped you as much as they have me 😍 and its so interesting to see what needles other knitters swear by!

a project bag! a must have to keep everything together.
so true!! idk how I didn’t mention this!!

Love my ChiaoGoo 2.25 mm 40 inch sock needles. I'll never give them up!!

also it sounds like you got an AMAZING deal trading stash yarn for those needles, WOW!

great point!! I think my issue is I knit my socks with 64 sts so there stitches end up too spaced out over the 9in circulars to feel natural!
