Yes. Addi Crazy Flexi flips. (Must be crazy ones bc then one needle is sharper than the other. If it doesn’t say crazy both are pretty dull points.) I made that mistake. I’ve been knitting for several 😂years and I just tried these on a whim and they make small circular knitting fly and I use DPNs too. And yes, get the metal ones.
You hit the nail on the head! But because it's afternoon here in Finland when the video comes out, I am watching on Sunday morning instead. Watching Nora, knitting and drinking a huge cup of coffee. Life is good, isn't it?
Nora- Easy way to keep track of your rounds on those gift knit gloves w/o winging it or using a row counter: CO, knit your first row, and at some point, place a lightbulb stitch marker around the stitch below one that you just knit. That's marking round 1. Now every 10 rounds, place another stitch marker. When you go to knit the second one, you just match up the stitch markers! No counting passed 10 lol. I do this for socks, sleeves, gloves, everything! And I will even color code the stitch markers, so when I get to a new part (heel, cuff, increases, etc.) I will change to a different color stitch marker for that section! Once I knit the first one, I rarely have to check the pattern. I'll even pre-count and attach all 5 markers to the first stitch so they're all right there for me to grab as I need them lol
This is a great idea. I do something similar to keep track of where I am in pattern repeats, but it never occurred to me to use this to keep track of rows in stockinette. I am definitely going to use this on the sleeves of the sweater I'm currently working on to make sure they match!
Dear Nora, I can not believe the modifications you are doing on your own after knitting such a short time! You’re fearless! As for the Poets cardigan, I would love to see like a brushed pewter button!
Also I know you mentioned before you thought maybe the oatmeal washed you out because it was similar to your skin tone, but I think you have enough contrast in your features (hair, eyes) that “ground” you enough so that doesn’t happen!
I agree that the earrings really cinched the look! And thanks for being human, really made me smile :-) For small projects in the round, my favorite method is using two 16-inch circular needles--kind of a cross between using 2 super-flexy flexiflips and the magic loop method. You have to find what you personally prefer, though. Thanks for another interesting and entertaining episode!!
You can always try the "traveling loop" instead of a pure magic loop. Basically you just knit like half of your magic loop and pull more cord through so you don't have to reset ever. It's my preferred method to long cable knitting on something small, and you don't get laddering because you don't ever reset.
I love sock knitting and use chaigoo 9" circulars. Yes they are tiny and were weird to start with but if you stick to it, just like learning to knit, it gets much easier and I love them! I fly on those things and hate when I have to switch to different needles to do heels and toes lol ... You may want to use the add a marker every 10 rounds like with socks to keep from having to row count. Lots easier 💙
You know I just paused your video on my tv, reached to my phone, find your vid in my history simply so that I can comment on how much I appreciate the little things you do on your videos such as brightening that really dark yarn in order for your viewers to see... Of course there's so much more but it's these details that just elevate your videos and differentiate you from this over saturated genre. So thank you... I for one really appreciate and enjoy your podcasts 😊
Thank you so so so much 😭 that means so much to me that you took the time to comment. I really appreciate it and I’m happy that you’ve enjoyed the edits!
I really enjoy your podcast Nora. Your diction is perfect 👍🏻. When I was young growing up in Scotland (live in Canada now) yarn was always given by ounces and there was never yardage. You also did not see gauge written on the ball band as certain weights used certain needle size etc . How things have progressed! Since knitting was handed from generation to generation we didn't always know all the techniques that are available today. My Mum showed me the way she did things. I can't believe you have only been knitting for 2 years! Xx
With the 9” circulars try using your pinkie on the outside of the work. I find that stabilizes it much better in my hand and I don’t have to grip so tightly.
Happy for you letting us into your little Knitting Universe, Nora 🙏🏻♥️ The indiecita yarn are from the danish brand “Filcolana” and is their Old name for their Alpaca yarn - now it’s called Vilja. It’s sooooooo amazingly Soft! 🤩 I’m Knitting on a FESTIVE YOKE Pullover by Skeindeer (Christmas is comming) 🥳🎄✨
Might be interesting on your holiday dress and make a minimalist collar, giving a larger neck opening, showing some collarbone? IDK, you'd have to try it on. Something like a narrow cord edge. It's remarkably beautiful how it's coming out!
I suggest you try 2 16” circulars or DPN’s. At least with the 16” needles they can be used for sleeves as well either alone or together. I find this a much easier way to knit smaller dimension. I knit my socks, mitts and sleeves that way all the time.
2 needles is what I was going to suggest as well. In addition, I don't know that it will help with the nausea, but if you're experiencing or are nervous about laddering with magic loop, there's a technique from the channel Knitting by Phrancko called Improved Magic Loop that's really helped me get more comfortable with Magic Loop. It might not work for everything, but I like it a lot more than the regular technique.
Before you try the flexi flips, try the two circulars method! It feels similar to magic loop but with way less adjusting and hassle imo! I literally will not do magic loop but 2 circulars is my favorite method for small circular knitting!
I wish I lived in Northern hemisphere so mitts, hats and scarfs were good Christmas gifts but when it's 25 degrees C I don't think people want winter accessories. This year I've been giving hats for birthday presents to close friends.
@ I think knitting potholders and ’fancy,’ towels in cotton could be a lovely fast gift. There are many free patterns on Ravelry, I think I have seen some free patterns on PurlSoho as well ☀️
Thank you for making me laugh! I am the same feeling about earrings, I can’t work or leave the house without them. I just feel naked without earrings. And yours are stunning, as well as your garments. I am just finishing up the cozy classic raglan by.Jesse Maed, using la Bien Aimee merino sock and Kumo mohair, absolutely beautiful and soft yarn. I highly recommend her yarn if you have never tried them.
I love the flexi flips ❤ they have been a gamechanger for me. They are easier to hold than the 9 inch. They do take some getting used to, but they made me like to knit socks😅
Hello! I had THE WORSt time transitioning to shorties for sleeves or socks. It’s a new way to use the muscles in my hands. I really wanted to knit with them though. Used them for short periods of time and taking frequent breaks. Happy Saturday!
Great video! I recently started an all over cable garment (the Smocky Cardigan by Soop Knits) and remembered your tip from a recent podcast with the Grayling sweater about temporarily twisting the stitches around larger cables so they don't stretch as much. It's helped a lot and I appreciate how often you share the little tips like that!
I am in chaotic cast on mod3 here. Currently on my needles I have musselburgh, colorwork cuff socks, a classic ribbed beanie, a greenleaf sweater, and an accidents, beach wrap. I bounce around from one to the other.
The enthusiasm you express in figuring out how to modify patterns/designs is so delightful! Your excitement and dedication to excellence with your ability to communicate the details is recognizable and cherished! Your podcast is like reading a good book that you don’t want to put down…❤
I have cheap dupe of flexi flips from amazon in 4,5 mm and I love them! I didn't want to spend that much on needles that I might not like, so instead of $24 I spend around $2 and now I know that if I want more in different sizes it'll be worth it.
If you're interested in some good review info on flexi flips before you buy any, check out Noelle and Kelly's last few Tuesday night Knit Chat Cafe streams here on UA-cam. They've been testing them out and working with them, and answering a bunch of viewer questions. Enjoy your knitting, and I love spending part of my Saturday morning with you!
I know this is different for everyone, but my experience with flexible DPNs was a little uncomfortable. I just couldn't find a good way to hold them. Good luck in your quest to find the perfect needles for small circumferences! My favorite so far is magic loop.
Hi! I’ve been knitting for almost 5 years now and I still don’t have all the needles I need yet 😂. I am still using wood or bamboo dpns I got a whole 11 sets for $13 on Amazon years ago and they work just fine for me. The first ones I got were metal and heavy and kept sliding out and as a new knitter at the time working with acrylic yarn, losing my stitches often meant frogging the whole thing and starting over! I tried a pair of 9 inch circs but I couldn’t work with them either. Magic loop hurts my brain 😅, so I use dps… I also feel connected to my grandmother when I use them so that’s nice ☺️ I’m in the middle of doing sweater surgery on the first sweater I ever made, it was for my husband and the bottom of one of the cuffs was destroyed, so I picked up some stitches, ripped out a fluffy yarn (pain in the butt) and I’m reknitting the cuffs a little longer than they were. It’s a little bit magical what we are able to do with yarn 🧶 Loved seeing you this morning, take care ❤
I think leather (or faux leather) buttons would be pretty on the cardigan. Or wood. It would give the whole look more richness? Depth? Can’t think of the word lol. I’ve been knitting sleeves, panels, tons of fingerless mitts and socks two at a time magic loop. Just goes so much faster!
Yes to flexiflips. Love Magic Loop for knitting mitts 2 at a time so that I'm sure I separated for the thumb at the right row or when knitting a lace or colorwork pattern that I did the same thing on both mitts.
If you want to mix it up with smaller circumference mitts, I’ve been enjoying crocheting my fingerless mitts. I freehand seed stitch a rectangle which I then slip stitch together (minus the space for the thumb). Of course you could do the rectangle thing with knitting also, but this seems to be scratching my crochet itch lately!
For me for short circumference- using 2 sets of circular needles is the best way to go according to my knitting instructor who also owns our LYS where I live. From both our experiences, is also really helpful to avoid laddering- I could not stand magic loop the few times I’ve tried it and DPNs are not bad, but laddering is hard to avoid with them
I think the greige suits you better since you look like you can be a warm spring. But don’t let those palettes dictate your color choices, just choose any colors that you like to look at since you’ll be knitting with it for a good chunk of time!
Hi Nora, I’m not surprised you have reached another milestone of 12k subscribers. Congratulations! You are so much fun to watch and all your yarny characters are so cute. Love them ❤
I think if I were making your sweater dress I would do a higher neck and do it at my knees and maybe belt it with tall boots? I don't know if I could handle the really long to my ankles? Either way, it's gorgeous. Can't wait to see it as it comes along!
Hello from Gibraltar, 😂😂 love the earrings you were wearing all through the podcast 😅😅😅, you crack me up with your great sense of humour. Always look forward to seeing you every week.
Hard choice with the two greys! I think warmer tones suit you better, but the greige might be too light as you mentioned. It would be my preference for your complexion, but overall I think I'd pick neither to be honest
OMG I went through the same thing with small circular needles. I started out using magic loop when I learnt to knit, didn't really like it when I started, but it eventually became my favourite, because my muscle memory got into to it. I did try DPN's, hated them, just far too fiddly and not good for my hands, I have developing arthritis. So I tried the flexi tips, hated them as well, almost felt the same as DPN's, but they showed promise. I have friends who love them. I use Chiaogoo circular needles, so what I did do was purchase enough sets of the 2.5 mm tips in the length my hands like and an equal number of short cords to make longer flexi tips and found they work way better. I just needed to keep the hard straight needles away from the working space. It was a pricey risk, but I knew I'd use them no matter what. Good luck. Love the modifications in the Poets cardigan.
I vote for pewter buttons 😊. My advice for 9" circulars is to not grip the tips like you normally would...it's almost like you're not holding them at all....hard to explain, but I'd say give it another try. I use different methods for small circumference depending on my mood, but I've never gotten to like magic loop...not sure why 🤔
For the buttons for the cardigan, consider something in a deep navy to pick out the blue undertones in the yarn. Hopefully there isn’t too much of a difference in the dye lots of the yarn used in your Yoga sweater. I recently did some helical knitting with different dye lots of hand dyed yarn and ended up with some terrible striping and pooling. I am planning to dye the sweater 😢
It's crazy how many different types of needles there are to try! I've also been experimenting with small circumference knitting- I don't like magic loop and I'm prone to laddering with it. DPNs are my backup, but there are lots of ends poking out when knitting on the go. So I tried the Addi Flexi Flips and I do really like them, but for me they are not perfect. I didn't realize HiyaHiya also made them and wish I had gotten theirs- compared to regular HiyaHiya Sharps (my fav metal needles) the Addi's are heavier and a lot blunter. They also have one side which is *very* slightly sharper than the other, and it always takes me a second to figure out which end to use. They do seem incredibly high quality though, and once I got the trick of holding them they are nicer than DPNs.
If u like double points then you might like the flexiflips… my preference is the addi rocket squared version… easier to hold and I like the texture so stitches stay on better and still slide easily…. I have bought several fixed longer cables of these recently too…. And my other fav is using lykke short needles for smaller circumference ..
I'm like you when it comes to small circumference knitting. I have tried everything, magic loop, metal & bamboo DPN's and Flexi flips. Flexi flips, flip me out. Magic loop confuses me. DPN's I can manage. I was ready to give up trying. But then I saw someone using two cable needles to work in the round. Brilliant! You can find a tutorial on UA-cam to see what you think. Cheers
I recently re-tried my 9in circulars for a sock and re-remembered that I hate them too. I just can't seem to get comfortable with them. I have learned that I use my pinkies A LOT when I knit to stabilize everything so it is very uncomfortable to try to knit without them. With the 9-inch I knit with my pinkies out haha
Hi Nora. Thanks for your delightful and informative podcasts and beautiful projects. You are so courageous in making complex designs that turn out so well. ❤ I’ve knit quite a few fingerless mitts “in the flat” and then seamed them up leaving a thumb opening. So simple and quick with great results.
My head knitting faster than my hands pretty much sums up my entire knitting life 😂 I’m currently knitting a sweater with some of the Berroco aerial mohair and I love it sooo much. Mine is just a solid color but it’s SO soft. I find mohair to be a bit scratchy so I’m very picky about which ones I use and the aerial might be my favorite one right now.
Nora, the cooler shade of grey (your new cardigan) look really good on you. I think you should consider the colour petrol like in Drops Alpaca mix color 7240. I think it would suit you really well.
Love watching you Nora. Have you tried small circumference knitting on two circular needles? I can not use the small tips, I find them very awkward with the way I knit (and my huge hands) and prefer a longer tip. I mostly use 2 X 60cm (24") interchangeables or fixed with the longer tips (13cm, I think) to knit everything in the round, from the toe of a sock through to the body of a sweater. Much less fiddly than magic loop in my opinion.
Those earrings are amazing! They added such a sparkle throughout the video ! 😉 but seriously, fun video and thank you for keeping me company this Saturday morning as I knitted along while watching this 💕
Good work on the Poets cardigan adjustments. I think the oatmeal actually looks better on you so if you want something a bit darker grey I’d still aim for a warm grey.
I'm knitting the 1999 sweater right now and it also has the BOR in the front. I was like you and thought it was wrong and read the pattern over and over to make sure. As for as I can tell I'm doing it correct, I'm going with it. I've split for sleeves and working on the body only now and it's all going great so far. Good luck with yours 💙
I was going to say it is pretty common in patterns to move the BOR from the center back to under the left arm so that it’s better concealed. You can always keep it in the center back if you like, but you have to mentally adjust if you’re working a texture or colourwork pattern.
Hello! I'm one of the weird people who LOVE 9 inch circulars! I always have a pair of 9 inch socks in my purse. There's a big learning curve to them, I got super frustrated when I bought them in spring and retreated back to magic loop. But this summer when I was teaching my two best friends from college (they're dating and Swifties) how to crochet in an attempt to help them find post-grad hobbies, I committed myself to doing a pair of socks with them. That way, we all got to learn something new and be annoyed together before moving home! And it sucked for awhile until it clicked. You're learning a completely different knitting style, so it takes some patience and experimenting. I'd commit to a pair and see how you feel. For me it's worth it because I can knit all the time everywhere now. I can knit while I walk!! And you could crank those fingerless mitts at warp speed. That is my pitch. Of course, you might also hate them too, but give them a fair try. Also now I need a cabled sweater dress in a blown yarn, hmm maybe that'll be my Christmas yarn request
I love flexi flips (and the hiya hiya flyers are even more incredible, as sharp as stilettos) and use them for everything-DK weight socks, crowns of hats, mittens, even sweater sleeves. I canNOT live without flexi flips
I just started a sock using size 1 9 inch circular needle.. usually use magic loop. Love them! Less fussy. But as I get to the foot ill do magic loop again. I cannot believe whst a fabulous knitter you are since you've not done it very long. You inspire me to try to.knit things I've never dreamed of knitting. Thank you for such uplifting podcasts. You are truly a gem
I feel the same about the magic loop method and prefer dpn's for small circular knitting. I have tried the flexi flips but don't like that there are only 3 needles which gives it more of the magic loop method vibe.😕 I can't remember the brand of dpn needles that the Crazy Sock Lady uses. They are metal, not bamboo. Good luck, Nora. Loved another one of your great podcasts!😊
Lovely podcast yet again. Regards the small circular knitting😢I have found magic loop has been the best format for me followed by DPN’s my fingers not happy with any other method. Hope this helps you in your decision making 😊
Your video’s are so full of energy. I like that. Why not knit your mittens flat and graft them together. No more new needles, no more fiddle….. Good luck 😊
Those earrings you had on for the video are gorgeous! Really made the entire outfit really. I can never find such great deals at my good will near me. And when they do have yarn they are charging almost as much as the lys so it isn’t always worth it, but I keep looking.
Interesting, Helga. I have been thinking about getting FlexiFlips, but I am afraid that the short tips would make my hands hurt. This the reason I knit sleeves on DPNs rather than on short circulars. There's more needle to grab. Do you think I should save my money and stick to my DPNs? Rgs Sari
The mitts are cute. I did 4-5 mitts last year as gift knits. I used the Penny glove pattern with a road to a China yarn. This yarn was on sale at my LYS and one skein made two.
Nora you are fabulous! Love your adventurous approach to the poet’s cardigan mods. Yay for thrifted yarn and same here in terms of brain knitting faster than hands 🙃
Yep, I have to say (this being the Comments section, not the Compliments section) that listening to the gift-knitting push doesn't sit well with me in this moment. You're having fun and that's the main thing, but it's the first time I've fast-forwarded this vidcast. Loving thumbs up and forever subscribed, I'm looking for creativity and serenity right now.
I just realized your videos are my adult version of Saturday morning cartoons ❤😂 So a big ol’ thanks to you for the joy you bring!
Thank you so much!!! That makes me so happy 🥰
This is exactly the vibe!! I am always so excited to get my knitting and come to a podcast on Saturday morning!
Haha it is! I always get excited to sit down and watch Nora on Saturdays

Dear Nora, I can not believe the modifications you are doing on your own after knitting such a short time! You’re fearless!
As for the Poets cardigan, I would love to see like a brushed pewter button!
Thank you so much!! I believe that we can make anything we set our minds to!!
I love that idea for buttons!
I actually think the oatmeal grey suits you! Definitely the warmer tones
definitely the warmer version.
Oh yes, definitely the warmer colour, the oatmeal. The grey... No, not your colour at all. BTW great knitting and a beautiful cardigan!
Totally agree... Warm tones become her...
Also I know you mentioned before you thought maybe the oatmeal washed you out because it was similar to your skin tone, but I think you have enough contrast in your features (hair, eyes) that “ground” you enough so that doesn’t happen!
What did we do to deserve Nora? She even put a spotlight onto the dark knit we couldn’t see…😮 ❤ the edits are so thoughtfully done 🎉
Omg thank you so much! I’m really glad everyone found that helpful. I’ll try to do it even more in the future!!
Great finds at the thrift store! How exciting! I hope your sister's cardigan comes together very quickly. It's looking wonderful so far.❤🧶
I love the flexi flips, I use them on all my socks
Me too, I hate magic loop, I either use DPNs or flexi flops or two circular needles
I agree that the earrings really cinched the look! You have a warm skin tone in this lighting, the oatmeal grey for sure.
You are seriously stressing me out with your deadlines......I'm sure I'm gonna have a section of VERY tight colourwork following that video!!! 🫣
I so thought wood buttons immediately for the Poet's cardigan. Congrats on 12K !!! Who doesn't love a cozy Saturday morning with Nora ❤🙌

I JUST got flexi flips for my musselburghs because I also hate magic loop. They are amazing! Totally worth it!

Thank you so so much!!
You could always knit the mitts flat and seam up with the tails, leaving a gap for the thumb
The enthusiasm you express in figuring out how to modify patterns/designs is so delightful! Your excitement and dedication to excellence with your ability to communicate the details is recognizable and cherished! Your podcast is like reading a good book that you don’t want to put down…❤
Nora, maybe try knitting the mitts with 2 circular needles. That's my favorite for small circumstances.
Same here - and you don‘t have to buy a different „category“ of needles.
Nora, I love love love your energy and humour. It's a huge part of what keeps me coming back every week ❤
Thank you so so much 🥰

Hi Nora. The beigey gray looks wonderful
Another great podcast. Looking as pretty and making me smile. I love the earrings you have on. First thing I noticed when you came on.
For small circumference circular knitting, I’ve been getting along better with using 2 circular needles instead of magic loop or dpns. Worth a try!
I’m pulling out my truffle tester and will make the yoga’s I can keep the neck which I love! I am making a truffle sweater for my daughter
Hello from Gibraltar,
😂😂 love the earrings you were wearing all through the podcast 😅😅😅, you crack me up with your great sense of humour. Always look forward to seeing you every week.
You are just the cutest! Thanks for your positive vibes and wonderful smiles!❤
I like using two circular knitting needles to do small circumference.
Been bingeing your videos the last few days! Love your energy and bravery. You've inspired me to cast on my first sweater 😊
I don’t do much on larger needles- I’m SUPER loose… but I LOVE my addi flexi flips!! I have them in 2.0, 2.25, 2.5mm 😍😍😍
Loved the cute earrings you for sure had on for the whole video ❤
I ❤ your earrings (very Greta Van Fleet) and WIPs! Happy Fall! 🍂
Look forward to your Saturday morning episode! The Viking yarn looks so snuggly.❤
Thank you!! It does, doesn’t it??
Totally agree that the earrings are a must
If u like double points then you might like the flexiflips… my preference is the addi rocket squared version… easier to hold and I like the texture so stitches stay on better and still slide easily…. I have bought several fixed longer cables of these recently too…. And my other fav is using lykke short needles for smaller circumference ..
I recommend the flexiflips!! I have all the sizes - and I use them for knitting sleeves, gloves, socks etc (I was a hard core dpn knitter)
Cheers
Fingerless mitts are so cute......an embroidered flower could be easy and add so much on that beautiful combo of yarns that you used 😊
I really like the flexiflips - they are pricey but they’re just a little bit more comfortable for me than DPNs and I find I get less laddering
I’ve knit quite a few fingerless mitts “in the flat” and then seamed them up leaving a thumb opening.
Mother of pearl style buttons would be pretty with the poet's cardigan
Oh and I have scored a few sweaters quantities of 100 percent wool lately too…. ❤❤❤
I would give knitting two at a time with magic loop a try. In total you will only have to shift the needles for half the amount of time.
100% wooden buttons on your sisters cardigan. And those earring are amazing they did make the whole look 😊
Great projects, Nora x I'm working on the La Prairie cardigan by Joji Locatelli. Nice earrings lol
And yes the felted slipper rocks…. I am working on a pattern for a crocheted double felted pair…. They are amazing and cozy….
Love your videos! I am finishing up the lounger cardigan as a gift knit that I started last year! On the second sleeve so I’m getting there😂
I have never tried the flexi flips so cannot comment on that, but Michaels carries metal DPNs! I get my metal ones from there :)
Flexi flips work for me but I enjoy DPNs more.
Your mittens are so cute! Greetings Helga ❤
Rgs Sari
I use 2 16” needles for small circumference knitting, I have also tried the flexi flips, they are ok but I prefer the 2 circular.
Just LOVE your episodes SO MUCH!! ❤Congratulations on 12K subscribers!! And, OMG the little graphic of Osi with the mug is SO cute!!
Thank you so much!!! 🥰
