thank you for featuring Rival Consoles! I ADORE HIS MUSIC SO SO SO SO MUCH. Not many people i'd travel across the country to catch a live show but i've done it more than once!
Thank you for your kind words. Rival Consoles / Ryan is amazing. His music is incredible and we adore him to. Definitely worth traveling to see his shows. :-)
and thank you Imogen for your amazing contributions to music! The Hide and Seek performance live at Studio 11 altered my limited perception of what it meant to be a vocalist as a young creative
Apart from Rival Consoles being the incredible musician he is... This was probably the best filmed and edited artist interview I've EVER seen. The use of B-roll, the way you edited the voice, leaving room for the insecurities... Just felt so real... wow! Props to everybody who made this. (PS: I'm going to have to steal this... haha)
Hey - thanks for your kind words about the film. The team were super proud of this one and how it all came together. Ryan was great and super generous with his time and open up about his creative process. 🧡
Barbican looked/sounded incredible. Must've been great in person. Interesting how the interview segments the music process description seemed quite haphazard / random but the live segments seemed highly refined, focused and big. He seems to have elite editing and compositional skills (including an intimate knowledge of his gear) to go from one to another. I've only followed him casually through the years, a few tracks on comps. I've always loved the name and it's future-proof concept though possibly borne of the 80s (because of my age I think Atari, ColecoVision, Intellivision, then Nintendo, then the next wave Playstation, X-box) but it also can completely mean mixing desks, and all the gear vying for our attention, dollars, creativity etc. Brilliant name.
AWESOME. Big thanks to my friend Peter, for introducing me to Rival. That fade out beat at the end, sounds like it is from Psyence Fiction-era DJ Shadow stuff... trying to remember the track. Lush and lovely.... Thanks to ALL who made this.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful glimpse into Rival Consoles’ creative process. He captured the essence of modular synthesis with the observation at the beginning about harnessing those moments that can never again be replicated in quite the same way. It is the Tibetan sand art of sound and music creation.
Thank you for your kind words. Rival Consoles / Ryan is an amazing artist and was real pleasure to spend time with him to see how he creates as an artist.
Fantastic. Rival Consoles’ music has added a whole new level of depth to reading for me. I am reading the first book I have in 5 years at the moment. Super cool music, thank you.
Beautifully put , inspiring .Ive been working with modular for three years now in a purely improvisational way, the way you describe process absolutely nails it . I come from a visual arts background its all about "ways of seeing "so experimentation comes easily . Process is everything I think ,its more of a spiritual journey .
Really enjoyed this. For me the old film style clashed with the clean footage syle and the artistic zooms and overt handhelds made me a bit motion sick. But still a great 10 minutes.
You can think whatever you want of Rival Console's work (I partially like it a lot) but this video is neither a 'glimpse into the artistic process' of RC nor is it a 'conversation'. It is just a fancy promotional video for RC, aiming to mystify the 'artist' behind the project. I mean c'mon, who seriously wears a blazer during music production sessions at home? 😝 I feel like I watched an advertisement.
That's because he is better than 95% of other electronic artists. The guy has at least 5 10/10 tracks and his albums are extremely consistent with very few fillers. I mean just how good is this : ua-cam.com/video/_FK-mrVem5I/v-deo.html
His sound is like pure emotion. Happy memories, sad memories. A sunset and a sunrise.
Thanks for the comment - love it. 🔥

@sodiumfilms Imogen heap would be a great artist to cover
One of my favourite artists loving one of my other favourite artists - oh happy day! 🥰
❤❤❤
The best sound designer of our times. But in an absolutely musical way and result, not in an academic/sterilised one. Thank you!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks you 🧡
Always wonderful to see a soul in full authentic flight. this is why we are here.
🙌🧡

Hard to see a clear shot but looks to me like a Novation Launch Control XL

The amount of views this video has is too damn low! Seriously great work capturing what feels like the essence of Ryan’s work.

Kind of confused why he's more successful than the many other people making similar music. I mean, I like his music, I'm not putting it down.

How many producers do you think make music like him?
