- For RE:COVER's fourth episode, we visited Erased Tapes mainstay Rival Consoles, in his studio to capture his stunning interpretation of Kate Bush's anthemic ‘Running Up That Hill’.
Focusing on the similarities between his intricate electronica and the pop icon's unique approach to bold and emotive songwriting, the artist delivers a shimmering ambient take on the classic track.

Man, I hope you release a version of this - it's a perfectly suited hybrid that really cuts through emotionally. It's hard to have an opinion when it speaks to the soul so directly.

I’d feel so overwhelmed with myself knowing that I’m covering Kate Bush. I see Ryan shivering with his fingers in the beginning - I bet he was a bit nervous. This was a beautiful rendition of the original track. I loved the background sounds so much. It’s flowing through my spirit.

Rival Consoles has some of the best stereo images in the world, imo. It's a bit weird to hear this in mono, I don't suppose a stereo recording exists, then?

Wow, very nice. Good that you took such a long time before you introduced the pulse! very nice work with the prophet, but the ambient sounds that continued in the back were al little in the way of the harmony sometimes for it to really cut through.

Amazing cover. The smaller piece of kit he brings in at 4:04 is none other than the Korg Minilogue, a terrific entry level polysynth. It is nice to see an established and incredibly talented artist like Rival Consoles incorporate a tool like this into his work.

No. But I did purchase an OG Minilogue three months ago that I will gladly return to them in exchange for the vastly improved xd model they will be releasing in a couple months.

Buy a prophet 8 rev 2 and use lots of reverb :) As for the background sounds, a lot can be accomplished using particle delays. In particular, he uses Red Panda Particles 2 (guitar pedal). I think he uses a fair amount of distortion to add more harmonics to the sounds.

Wonderful. Was the minilogue used, and if so what for? Is it the arpeggio we are hearing in the end underneath?
at 4:03 you can hear him bring in the volume of the minilogue, it sounds like a drone. I don't believe it's the arp.
