Oh how I miss the pacific ocean and breeze, as well as my pleine air group in Half Moon Bay. Yesterday was 114 degrees! I have deadlines for two paintings. Your video gave me both inspiration and relief.
There are times when it's nice having a cold ocean nearby. The water temp is 53 degrees which kept the air at about 70. Hope it cools off for you soon!

VERY nice painting! Fantastic curb appeal! Perhaps presumptuous but I think a hint of a waterline where the incoming water meets the sand would break up the mass of the foreground. It would give the water a bit of dimension against the flats with a touch of sunlight twinkle. I hope you don't mind my comments! :)

Thank you…I’m old but new to art and I’ve just started painting and just had a break down… I can’t get the paint or my hands to do what my brain sees and feels. I literally cried and my forearms ache from so much tension 😂 BUT watching you made me feel better. I see now it’s a process and it’s imperfect till it’s not. Thanks also for explaining and saying the color names! All the other art people act like the viewer went to art school or something…THIS is my art school! 😅
That's great thanks. Really helpful and helps me to better understand my disaster yesterday with my plein air. I was trying to paint the exterior of a lovely victorian pub in a street scene. My painting was far too complicated and busy and doesn't work. I will have a go at it again in a few months and try and make the street scene much less complicated
It can really help to do some light/dark studies. Just break the scene down into light and dark shapes. If you don't see a strong light/dark pattern you may want to wait until the light changes or choose something else!
@chamberlainpaintings As I look at the photo of that street that I took now, considering your comments, that's exactly what has gone wrong. I was trying to paint it in full sunlight with no shadows. I will look out for that next time and if I encounter the same problem again, i will, as you suggest, paint something else. Thanks once again.
I agree that this is your best yet of this scene really draws you in. One thing I do miss that I don't see a lot of your recent paintings are figures, I get that in this one they would be to hard to read.
Very nice picture. I find it interesting how you decide on colors for the painting vesus the colors in the actual view. How do you make those decisions?
I tried an umbrella when I first started painting but it's usually too windy in the places I paint. It's also one more piece of equipment to carry and set up. I found it more annoying than helpful. 😂

Thanks! My panels are a bit rougher than gessoboard. And cheaper! I used to really enjoy painting on gessoboard for 6x6 paintings.
