I love the phrase " you can't control if they like it, but you can control if they see it." Twice a year I have a yard sale that has a fine art section that is advertised as such. Since I sell most of my paintings during these yard sales, I've been contacted by two galleries, I dont have anything left for them to review..lol. .maybe next year
That was my next question. How do you get them to see it. Your fortunate to live in a place with lots of wealthy people. Getting people to see it is the hard part. Around here, if I tried to sell fresh, new work at a yard sale I would hear "how come that painting is 300 and this wrench is .30?". It's hard to get them to buy at an actual art show.
@petersenesac8102 No sir, I do not live in a wealthy area nor an artistic one. The hard part for me when wanting to sell was asking myself, is my art good enough? Am I ready for failure and bad criticism? Once I was over the fear and accepting my fate good or bad, I had to figure out how to do it. Turned down by numerous local small town galleries, it gave me the motivation to try another route. One way to get people to you is a yard sale sign and separate open-air art gallery signs all over town a month in advance. I would walk into galleries during busy hours and tell people I hear there's going to be an open-air showing at this one place to pique their curiosity, and it worked. I sold (28) all but one painting. All my paintings were local landscapes very familiar to all the locals. I'm a plien air hobby painter. Hopefully, this helps, and I wish you all the best.
Oh my gosh I just adore you. You always make me smile. At PACE in Denver, I was so excited that you were giving a demonstration and I’d see you in person. Then I walked right by a bearded artist painting in the hallway outside the vendor area. After I got past, I thought ,’oh my gosh I think that was Ryan Jensen’. Then I was outside painting on one of the painting days and thus cleanly shaved guy came and asked me where everyone was and I gave some stupid answer and after he walked away ,again I thought, oh my gosh tgat was Ryan Jensen-he shaved his beard!’ Twice didn’t recognize you when you were right in front of me. Loved your demo there. Hope You’ll be at PACE this year near Reno.
Ryan, I love how you sprinkle the whimsy serious about.. that bandaged ear had me laughing. but the final of the big boat that became so ...uah,,formal and b i g then you took it down and made it a gorgeous combination of light, swirls, value.. kicked Mr Rogers to the side and brought FEELING in. that more relaxed yet wild swoosh of your strokes made it remember to breath and gave the boat a beautiful whole glow.. okay, I blabbed trying to describe how I felt watching & listening.. amazed, inspired and thankful to see art that brings pure happy to be alive... The struggle is ... worth it, you prove that. Thank you.
Good morning! I just got off the treadmill and was watching your videos. Educational? Hell yes, but also very funny, engaging, and relatable. I just returned from almost 3 weeks painting pleinaire on the Midcoast of Maine, so your videos are all the more engaging and relatable. Fantastic job - you make the process enjoyable and something that people really want to do.
I was all ready to give a little feedback that you asked for, but instead, I was completely entertained and enlightened by this well made, humorous, informative video! Loved the way you corrected the boat in the middle of the canvas, brilliant! You're the BOSS, Ryan!! :) I laughed out loud a few times!
Thank you, Ryan for sharing these videos and your thoughts! I am headed out to paint today and it helps to see your large, expressive light-filled paintings! Your process and sense of humor makes my heart sing and not take it all so seriously. Just get out there, paint and have fun!!! GREAT video!!!
you had something really special around 13:03 - wild, mysterious, floating, open to the imagination. sometimes it's best to start another painting at that point. the "end" isn't always the best place to stop.

I live in Eureka, but so seldom find any videos from this area. I was surprised when it said, Woodley Marina. I go there all the time to take photos. I just consider them test shots, because the ship rigging is the perfect test for sharpness. I really appreciate your loose style. This is a great place for artists to live and work. Duane Michals, famous photographer, was here once doing a workshop at HSU. He said, "this place is lousy with photos."
@@ryanjensenart Duane Michals was just being funny. He creates photo stories with words. He created a niche like no other. His work is top notch. Great video Ryan! Thanks for sharing with us all. I too loved the Vincent part, and the hand-in-wheat slow mo scene that i remember from the movie gladiator.
