I was born 93 , remember bradford from around 97 and can just in the short time that has past it has gone to the bottom and Its sad to see. Some of these images are before my time and it looked clean, beautiful and thriving with life , people, flowers and colour. Wish it could be like this again. Bradford looked like a dreamy place to live in the late 60s 70s and 80s . Opening my eyes to what it should be like
@carguy792 You're quite right mate....it was great.....until the end of the eighties when the decline accelerated. To be fair though, the rot set in in the sixties with the winding down of the textile and associated trades. The rest, as they say is history. So very sad.
I moved up from Bristol to Bradford back in the early seventies. I really liked the place and the people. Bradford optimizes the gritty down to earth Pennine Mill town and the people are the salt of the earth. I was gutted a few years back to find that the K2 Curry House on Lumb Lane had gone.
Weve lost alot of good places , shops , pubs you name it. All the joy of bradford has been removed and a load of folk who dont care about the place has been brought here and trashed the place. 😢
Absolutely fantastic , thanks for bringing back so, so many memories from a past that I would go back to in a heartbeat. Wonderful music too . Just beautiful.
Wish i got to see it like you did. Im 31 but old souled. Would have loved living here in your era it looked fabulous. Miss it been a nice bright happy place with wonderfull floral landscaping etc .
I've got vague memories of the trolley bus system. Fantastic transport fot the masses ahead of its time. Clean, green transport. Why not now? Also vague memories of being in my pushchair crossing a foot bridge near shipley when a steam train went under the bridge. Sadly I've watched the demise of Bradford Centre and very rarely go now. All the best.
Wow thanks John, watched every bit of this video, i was born in late 70's, loved growing up in bradford in 80's and 90's, i wish i could go back to them years 😞
ANY BRADFORDIAN SHOULD BE PROUD OF WHERE THEY ARE FROM. I AM BRADFORD BORN AND BRED AND MOST DEFINITELY PROUD OF THE FACT. I HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING BRADFORD CITY FOR 64 THIS YEAR, MY FIRST GAME I WAS 3 YRS OLD WHEN MY GRANDFATHER TOOK ME
Fantastic memories, especially the SHARPS carpet shop on john Street Market, where i started my working life in 1977,VERY HAPPY DAYS indeed, still working 💪 and love these memories of a very happy and vibrant Bradford ❤
I'll add, how good was Bradford? What a different place it is now. The city centre was packed, everyday. Queuing 30 or 40 deep to catch a bus home. Foster square with its red tarmac roads!!! So many memories & so many pubs closed down!!
Loved the pics of my home town left at 15 due to bad life their it’s changed for the worse so much corrupt it was tearful to watch all the good days gone and never get back love the music to it loved it better if they were singing may Bradford rise and be what it once was ❤
I was born in Bradford in 1958 but we moved away to Lancashire in 1967,remember going to the Alhambra to see Jimmy clitheroe great memories shame to see it now
Many thanks for this. Born in 64 I can remember it was a decent place to live & shop. Not anymore sadly. The decline of the textile industry, the foundries, International Harvesters to name a few, the lack of investment & then the corrupt councils & councillors (architect John Poulson was sent to prison for his part in demolishing all that beautiful architecture). Now it’s an embarrassment full of vape shops, charity shops & mobile phone shops & stinks of weed. One great hope was The Odeon but god knows what’s happening with that!
Bradford was once a weathy town ,most of the shops and pubs are empty, i can remember going to town every Saturday with my nan shopping and a cup of tea in cafe in john st market ,now theres no point going anymore
Its impossible not to feel bitter about what the council have done to that town centre. When I lived in menston you had a choice of bradford or leeds for decent shopping, though bradford had a few more hills in the town centre to contend with. The town centre now consists of mobile phone shops, vape shops, charity shops and more beggars than in all of India. There are no night clubs to speak of now where there used to be loads all over town, so theres no atmosphere at all on a weekend now, it used to be genuinely great. The only life to be found of an evening is great Horton road and leeds road, where the main blocks of asian restaurants are situated, good food and a good lively atmosphere, with plenty of people visiting from cities like Manchester.
looking at these photos its clear that Bradford city centre was simply systematically vandalised over the decades, these amazing buildings are mostly all now lost.
John, I'm part way through......so far, it's been brilliant but a few duplicated photos in there. Born in Bradford in '64. Raised in Heaton. Watched it decline in the '80's. Moved to the suburbs and then left altogether. I could weep for the Bradford of my youth........what the hell have the politicians done!!
Dave sorry about the duplicates these take a long time to produce and being in and out of hospital does not help. Have you joined our group yet. Memories of Bradford. On facebook.
@JohnKay-tq5gv Hi John.....I apologise unreservedly! I'm afraid I don't do Facebook so I can't. It all makes me rather melancholic for a city and an era that are long gone. Your vlog brought it all back to me. Anyhow.....hope you're okay mate. Best wishes from an escapee.👍🇬🇧
Fantastic. Absolutely loved the pics of Bradford and surrounding areas with really nice instrumental music in the background.
Thank you very much.
Bradford looked so clean and orderly back then. Prosperous and happy even. Good times.

Fabulous collection and some good choices of accompanying music, it certainly chronicles the destruction of a once fine city I grew up in.
Thank you very much Raymond.Appreciated.
This is just a wonderful collection which brought back some fondest memories of the city.
Thank you so much Mohammed.
Thank you John. Some really amazing photos.

Will always be proud of being a bradfordian, great video 👏🏽
Its a dam shame Bradford has gone to the dogs. I loved growing up there but I had to leave because it isn't the place it once was. Corrupt council.
Ye nowadays they never do anything and expect people to pay them for what!? For bloody unnecessary roadworks which no one could give a damn about.
spot on
Fantastic memories, especially the SHARPS carpet shop on john Street Market, where i started my working life in 1977,VERY HAPPY DAYS indeed, still working 💪 and love these memories of a very happy and vibrant Bradford ❤

Simpler and far happier times

Thank you love.
I think it's more corrupt now Carol, but 80's and 90's it was a lot better than now imo
Born 1949 saw Bradford under go so mamy changes Ran away screaming 50 years ago. Breaks my heart to see it now
Great photos which brought back memories of the Bradford I remember. Great music, and not a black face in sight!
I was born in Bradford in 1958 but we moved away to Lancashire in 1967,remember going to the Alhambra to see Jimmy clitheroe great memories shame to see it now
Thank you so much. That was lovely to watch.
Excellent, thank you.

Only part way through so far. Great images and memories but so saddening!
Thank you.
Bradford was a lot better then but I still love it

It's changed for the worse
A pub on every corner then .... now Turkish barber's or vape shops.. just what the world needs, not.
Great photo’s had some of the best nights out of my life, unfortunately it’s full of parasites now

Take it back to the beginning before you watch.
Days before the white flight
Only planes fly. Dangerous for people to fly.
A very cowardly move.
@@WillScarlet1991 White people don't like living in filth and squallier and why should they
What white flight? Majority of the city is still white
@@WillScarlet1991Why? You want to bring up your children in safety place you can and Bradford isn't it anymore.
My uncle had fruit and veg stall in rawson market
Man....this city has gone down the shit pan . Ruined by an inept council
@9:57 my local haunt :)
