Nice one. It's a shit hole now. Was a lot better back then. All pictures are a bit before my time. Could you do one for Bolton Junction / Eccles hill area. Cheers.
Hi John I worked in Bradford in the 90,s at superdrug on Broadway now the light makes me happy and a lot sad to see it now but thank you for a lot of happiness
@@JohnKay-tq5gv Looking good John... I remember Bradford from my childhood, lots of memories especially around the mid 70s when i used to drink in The Duchess of York on Sackville street with Bradford city ointment crew, The Boy and Barrel, The Metropole, The Sun, Tavern in the Town, Royal Standard to watch Angelic Upstarts, Golden Cockerel, Empress, The Turf, Pile Bar, Norfolk gardens, saw Sham 69, SLF, Madness at St Georges Hall, met my first girlfriend in The Cellar Bar on Ivegate, lost my front teeth from a punch from behind outside The Commercial, met my first missus at The Mecca on Manningham lane in 1977, i used to climb over the wall at Valley Parade or crawl under the turnstile, climb over the fence at Odsal to watch speedway with Gary Peterson in his celtic shirt, played snooker at the snooker hall on Sackville Street when we knocked off school, curry at the kashmir or late nights at Olympus coffee bar
what memories this has brought back of delivering in and out of bradford in the mid to late 80s,some great names gone to retail heaven. and that was the crime of the century demolishing bradford excchange
I cant help but be embittered at what they've done to our heritage. Thankfully, I remember being a kid in the 80s an early 90s, when we knew every neighbour on our street in Eccleshill, knew all the local kids, and we were all called John, Andrew, James, Aaron, Keith, Scott... We knew each others parents, brothers, sisters, aunties, grandma's... We all went to church on Sundays... Every house had a beautifully manicured garden... Now, shazads and anukweles flatten those gardens and concrete, building fortresses with cameras, speaking different languages, and nobody talks any more. The kids are segregated. The communities are segregated. It doesn't just break my heart, it sickens me.
57.39 the junction and the farmers over the road.before the junction was knocked down, now a bleeding star bucks.used to deliver newspapers for mr patel on gain lane, cira 1990's,those were the days.
I was born in Bradford and still live here. Love watching this and good memories of how bradford centre was in the 70s and early 80s. Was packed everywhere. Then the council decided to knock everything down. I miss the old Bradford A lot of pictures are repeated but its still good to watch
56 yrs old man, Almost cried watching this. I remember my mam telling us when we lived in barkerend, that when she was young, every garden had roses, flowers of all kinds in them, sadly nowadays, every garden has old couches and fridges in them.
Bradford was once a weathy town ,most of the shops and pubs are empty, i can remember going to town every Saturday with my nan shopping and a cup of tea in cafe in john st market ,now theres no point going anymore
Nice to see Bradford when it was a nice place to live, instead of the shithole its become, full of our english hating drug dealing ethnic friends & illegal immigrants,& sad to see all the long lost pubs i remember
I was born 93 , remember bradford from around 97 and can just in the short time that has past it has gone to the bottom and Its sad to see. Some of these images are before my time and it looked clean, beautiful and thriving with life , people, flowers and colour. Wish it could be like this again. Bradford looked like a dreamy place to live in the late 60s 70s and 80s . Opening my eyes to what it should be like
@carguy792 You're quite right mate....it was great.....until the end of the eighties when the decline accelerated. To be fair though, the rot set in in the sixties with the winding down of the textile and associated trades. The rest, as they say is history. So very sad.
Planned Immigration from 1948. 1951 UK Census 99.3% Ethnic British. 1991 Census 94%. Now! 74% if you believe that figure .- Hundreds of Thousands entering every year.
John, I'm part way through......so far, it's been brilliant but a few duplicated photos in there. Born in Bradford in '64. Raised in Heaton. Watched it decline in the '80's. Moved to the suburbs and then left altogether. I could weep for the Bradford of my youth........what the hell have the politicians done!!
Dave sorry about the duplicates these take a long time to produce and being in and out of hospital does not help. Have you joined our group yet. Memories of Bradford. On facebook.
@JohnKay-tq5gv Hi John.....I apologise unreservedly! I'm afraid I don't do Facebook so I can't. It all makes me rather melancholic for a city and an era that are long gone. Your vlog brought it all back to me. Anyhow.....hope you're okay mate. Best wishes from an escapee.👍🇬🇧
Its impossible not to feel bitter about what the council have done to that town centre. When I lived in menston you had a choice of bradford or leeds for decent shopping, though bradford had a few more hills in the town centre to contend with. The town centre now consists of mobile phone shops, vape shops, charity shops and more beggars than in all of India. There are no night clubs to speak of now where there used to be loads all over town, so theres no atmosphere at all on a weekend now, it used to be genuinely great. The only life to be found of an evening is great Horton road and leeds road, where the main blocks of asian restaurants are situated, good food and a good lively atmosphere, with plenty of people visiting from cities like Manchester.
I was born in Bradford in 1958 but we moved away to Lancashire in 1967,remember going to the Alhambra to see Jimmy clitheroe great memories shame to see it now
Fantastic memories, especially the SHARPS carpet shop on john Street Market, where i started my working life in 1977,VERY HAPPY DAYS indeed, still working 💪 and love these memories of a very happy and vibrant Bradford ❤
looking at these photos its clear that Bradford city centre was simply systematically vandalised over the decades, these amazing buildings are mostly all now lost.
My world when I was a boy growing up 👍🏼😃
my way of finding the way round leeds and bradford no sat nav then
Sure was.
Thanks for this the market had been knocked down by the time i moved here.
When life was more simple and definatley less voilent

The music reminds me of the cinema intermission music they played during the interval back in the old days 👍
Who remembers doing the tetley pub hunt back in the day ? 🤔
Great photos which brought back memories of the Bradford I remember. Great music, and not a black face in sight!
Just come across this video and I love it. So many memories and the music is gorgeous. Thank you very much.
Man....this city has gone down the shit pan . Ruined by an inept council
I AM A PROUD BRADFORDIAN AND I ALWAYS WILL BE
