Going in for ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair in a week (Australia). Been hella Nervous, your vid is a good reminder to stay on top of meds and get moving as much as possible judging by other people's comments. Appreciate the vlog and info
Hey Steven! I was so nervous for the surgery and the pain afterwards but you'll get through it I promise.. In regards to the surgery the most nerve-racking part was waiting in the waiting room... The surgery itself felt like a quick nap... Once you wake up you don't feel anything because of the drugs they have you on! In terms of once your home and the first week afterwards, it's going to suck but it goes by quick! If you can, try to coordinate someone that can come stop by and help get you food 2 to 3 times a day! I highly recommend getting a water jug you can keep beside you're bed! I'm blessed to have had my mom she made the process SO much easier! Definitely stay on your meds and get rehabbing once the pain subsides enough for you to do so, yessir! Sorry for the late response I missed your comment! Please let me know how everything goes with your surgery I'd love to know! Get excited for the surgery to be done with and being one step closer to normal again! You got this Steven, have a great day!😁
my surgery is tomorrow, I am really scared but this really helped, I have been watching videos about it and they kept saying how bad it hurt and that it is the worst pain ever, but seeing your process and all your updates really helps and comforts me a lot and it makes me realize that it is not the end of the world and I can get through it
I'm glad my video helped! Just remember that it'll all be worth it! If you can stick out the first week (which you will), you'll be on your feet in no time! Turn your nerves into excitement! Once your surgery's done with, you're one step closer to getting back to 100%... You got this Zara, wishing you a speedy recovery!😊
Haha thank you man.. the jokes in this video were me coping with the pain ngl😭 And yessir.. I watched this video back a few days ago.. so proud of the progress I've made in three months! Rehab can kind of suck but it's continuing to prove to be worth it with the results! Thanks for the support Cegal!🙏
Im 49 this and had my knee pain 10 years ago when i stopped basketball for good. even changing my exercise regime it still hurts, finally did MRI found meniscus both eg torn and etc and right leg ACL partial tear. 2moro my operation and hope ACL can be rescued so need to take graph form other place. scary but will go thru it. Dr said it be oaky and i can hit basketball again in a year time that my motivation now. from Malaysia very good video and caring comment. god bless
Yo Trex! Sorry for the delay in the response! Brother... that sucks! That is insane you fought through that for 10 FRICKIN YEARS.. holy! Regardless if you need a new graft or not stay consistent with rehab and you'll finally be back on the court again! Rehab either way won't be fun but it is extremely gratifying feeling and seeing your progress! Listen to your doctor, surgeons, and your body and you'll get through the thick of it quick! So I'm guessing you've got the surgery done.. how'd it go?! Please update me through your journey, I would love to know! I know your in pain and probably pretty bored right now, hang tight.. things get easier! Eat healthy, drink lots of water, and sleep as much as you can! Stay blessed!🙏
@@xandersalemi yes thanks done surgery. Both knee had meniscus trim and the lefty had a patch for cartilage hole and the right partial ACL tear and dr add in an synthetic implant to restore it back lucky no sacrifice of my body parts. Had operation on Monday now is Thursday. Done baby steps walk and all good. Just haven’t done pass motion yet which keep my stomach bloating.
That's amazing brother! The surgery was a nerve racking step on this journey, the fact you got in on both legs must ben even more so... you must feel so relieved it's done with! Also, congrats on getting some baby steps in that is HUGE! Take things really slow and be patient... improvements will come in leaps! Stay safe and as pain free as possible! Have blessed day! I had my first surgery for acl and meniscus back in may and had my second im August still recovering but must say is definitely a journey and I hate every thing about it it was the worse. 😂over all wish you the best in your journey ❤ word of advice don’t wait to do your exercises start with your heal slides even if your in bed try to bend as much as you can trust me it will be painful at first but it gets better as you go.
Heyyyy Liz! 😁 That sounds absolutely awful you had to get two surguries.. you're a trooper! I couldn't help but laugh at your thoughts on your journey so far.. LOL! I feel you though! It's been rough, I'm admittedly just about 100 days since surgery and even now rehab can definitely be a pain to get done everyday... that said... like you said... it pays off! I'm so happy I was consistent with my heel slides and doing everything I could since the start! I've been on my feet a bunch recently and it is because of the consistent approach I took with rehab! I appreciate all the advice you gave me.. although I may not use it, if anybody else is scrolling the comments to this video... EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS SOOO TRUE! Thank you so much for your support and comment it will likely help some random person going through the same out there! You're a real one for that comment, I appreciate you Liz! Hope you're making the most of your day!😁 Stay awesome!!😎
I have a full ACL tear and 2 tears in my meniscus. My surgery is next Thursday and I’m super anxious/nervous about it. I’ve never had any type of surgery and I’m 27. My doc was super surprised with my recovery so far not having the surgery yet (walking, stairs, lack of swelling, etc). Your video helped a ton because I found a lot of negative videos about the pain and how crap the recovery was. I power lift so I’m eager to get back to my normal self and put the work in to get back to the old me. I feel like the worst part, besides the pain, will be the frustration of not living your life normally and doing the stuff you want to do. I appreciate the video big dog, helped a ton!
Hey Shawn! That is awesome you've put in a lot of work pre-op; when I went into surgery I was getting a good amount of steps a day, my swelling was gone and I was starting to walk up the stairs decent! The work you've put in won't go unnoticed! Having mobility and some strength back will make recovery easier so great job, I'm proud of you bro! Also, as hard as it may be, turn your anxiety into excitement! I can't lie, I was really anxious about the surgery too, however, it was over in an instant... Once you lay down on the operation bed, you'll be done in what feels like seconds! The pain right out of surgery was almost non-existent (more so confusion waking up in a random room lol)! This surgery is a GIGANTIC step towards getting back to you, so view it as something positive! Get excited for arguably the scariest part to be done with! That said, I don't want you expecting no pain, because there will be! It may peak for you on days 1-3, 3-5, 4-6! You can mitigate it as much as possible by staying on top of your meds, drinking lots of water, eating healthy foods, and getting A LOT of sleep! I promise you once you get through the first week, progress speeds up a lot! The first couple of weeks sucked in terms of not being able to really do anything, but the time flies by! Get a few books you'd like to read, shows/animes/movies you want to watch, journal, and whatever you can do in bed! I'm currently 45 days out, have been walking 7-10k steps a day, have been going to the gym every day since day 35, and have been chilling with my friends and family again! You may not be able to deadlift and squat for a while but you'll have time for other things! Pick up a new hobby, train your upper body harder, study lower body training (look for potential imbalances in your training before), and more! Keep your head up and your spirits as high as possible my friend, you're exactly where you need to be... I believe in you and you should too! I appreciate your support and taking the time to write out your feelings before the surgery on my video, I'm honored! Keep me updated if you'd like with everything, I'd love to know how things go! Hey Xander . Your video has been the most realistic and honest of all . I have become paranoid looking at all the videos related to acl . I broke my acl a month back and had near tear of mcl and grade 1 meniscus tear . Now it’s 5 weeks I am in prehab and next week I am getting surgery done . I am in so much of depression just for the fact that I will be undergoing the surgery and I am scared . Is there anyway I can contact u and talk directly ?
Hey brother, it's completely normal to feel the way you're feeling. It's horrifying getting put under but even more so not knowing how you'll feel after surgery.. if there will be any complications.. if you'll be able to cope with the pain.. how long you'll be unable to walk for, etc. There are so many uncertainties, however, you've got to flip your nerves into excitement, no matter how hard it will be. Acknowledge that this surgery is a MAJOR stepping stone to getting back to your life before injuring yourself. This surgery needs to happen for you to heal, have faith everything will go well, have faith you'll be walking again before you know it... because you will! I'm 80 days post surgery now and let me tell you, life is good. I've walked 10k steps the last 4 days in a row... my knee is sore, but it's getting better everyday! I've stayed on top of my rehab which has absolutely contributed to my ACL allowing me to be on my feet so much. My biggest advice for post surgery is to drink LOTS of water, eat lots of healthy food, try to find someone to help you (keep you stocked with water, bring you food, etc), stay on top of your meds as prescribed, and most importantly sleep, SLEEP, SLEEEEEP! Admittedly I was exactly in your shoes man, I got pretty anxious and depressed the 2 weeks before my surgery and it sucked! Reading and breathing exercises helped a lot calm my nerves along with hanging out with my friends and family! Stop looking so much into videos online and the internet... they'll end up making you feel worse! Enjoy outside and the beautiful things life offer. I promise you man this will all be behind you before you know it. It felt like yesterday I was going in for surgery! Find appreciation and joy in the process! It's been really fascinating seeing my progression from not being able to get out of bed, to barely bending my leg, to advancing in my exercises, showering for the first time, going outside for the first time, taking my first steps, ditching my crutches, starting harder workouts, and overall getting my life back! Acknowledge post-op will suck and rehab is going to be tough, but equally so, acknowledge that you are on the right track to where you want to be! I'm proud of you for getting through the initial injury and pre op, you'll get though the surgery and post op no doubt! If you'd like to contact me, contact the email found on my channel (click more, by my subscriber count)! Remember that things always work out my friend, don't forget to breathe and keep going! Stay blessed and good luck with everything if I don't speak with ya! Keep me updated on how everything goes if you'd like, I'd love to know! I believe in you, keep your head up high and remember this surgery is gonna help A LOT in the long run! Have an incredible day, don't forget to forget about your surgery a little bit and enjoy the little things life offers! GET EXCITED BROTHA!
hey man i just had my acl and meniscus surgery today. I was pretty anxious before the surgery but the nurses and everybody are so amazing and make you feel so safe and comfortable. They walk you through the process and explain everything they are doing. They’ll relax you with some medicine in your IV and it will help tremendously. When it’s time they take you to the room everyone introduces themselves, and you switch to the other bed. They tell you their gonna put medicine in yku and before you know it your awake again just in another room. The Anastasia is crazy how you just close your eyes and you’re immidietly awake again. I was out the hospital within 30 minutes of waking up. My point is theirs no need to worry about the surgery in fact ghe day of surgery and day after might be the best days you expierence the whole recovery. Good luck to you hope this helps.
Thank you so much everyone for giving me courage . My ACL & MCL is scheduled on Tuesday . I don’t know why the fact that I am going to surgery is making me sick . But every time I read your replies . I feel so good and the surgery feels very small . I will definitely keep you posted . But I have a small question . I am so psyched about the anesthesia . In fact most of my fear comes due to anesthesia because I know that surgery is painless . I have option to choose GA or SA . Which I should I opt for . Is SA too painful to take although most doctors prefer SA over GA . Please advice .
@@beckhamdiimmler8747 Did you opt for General anesthesia or the spinal one ? Doctors are in favour of Spinal for me . But I have the phobia of needle . Although they are saying that pain is very very minimal . My fear of spinal still exists .
Hey BPR, I got the General Anesthesia and everything worked out! If you're scared of the spinal anesthesia I don't see why they couldn't use GA instead to help ease your nerves! I've never gotten SA before as this was my first surgery too... why are the doctors opting for the Spinal Anesthesia anyway?🤔
I'm on my 9th day of Acl reconstruction which i had on 23rd of july, idk why my doc said that i need to have my bandage for 14 days and they will remove it on that day only why is that do you have any idea? Other than that doing great, good leg extension is going on just stopped my meds for 1,2 days the pain came back which i think interrupts in rehab? So what should i do? And hope you get well soon man! Cheers.🥂
First off congrats on getting through the first week brother.. that's amazing you've got good motion already!! To answer your questions: They tell you to keep your bandages on to make sure you don't irritate your incisions and more importantly, to ensure swelling is controlled.. That said I took mine off on day 6 or 7 because it made rehab super uncomfortable. everything's been fine! I would listen to your doctor though to be safe! I stopped my meds pretty quickly too and I definitely felt it.. I believe you should tolerate what you can. If you feel like the pain is slowing your progress get back on your meds! If you feel you can push through without, stay off of them! Do what feels right! Thank you for your support! Im wishing you a speedy recovery my friend, you got this! Feel free to stick around, I'd love to hear your progress!

Stick around on my channel and I'll keep you updated when I stop using them! Your surgery is going to go perfect tomorrow! @@xandersalemi well I am 72 hours into my recovery. I am using a cool therapy machine for swelling. I gotta say, the pain pills have only help take the edge off. I don’t know if my age is a factor, I’m 57. It’s more painful than I thought. So I am praying each day it will get better because it has been difficult so far.
@@thewilder-side2990 First off congrats for getting the surgery done with my friend... that's a huge step in your recovery! Secondly, that sucks you're in a lot of pain... it's frustrating not being able to get comfortable, getting up to get food, going to the washroom, etcetera. I'm praying your pain will ease soon and you get a good night's sleep! Also, I don't believe age is too much of a factor, however, I know this surgery affects everybody different. My pain peaked between days 4 to 6, some of my viewers peaked days 1 to 3! I promise you though, once you get past the 7 day mark your pain will be far less! Make sure you are drinking lots of water, eating healthy food and most importantly, sleeping as much as possible! Stick it out a few more days, you got this! Keep your spirits up and have faith the pain will be worth it... (IT WILL BE)!! Thanks for the update, keep me posted when the pain eases! God bless!🙏
@@xandersalemi thank you for the kind words and advice. I really appreciate it. You are 💯 percent correct about trying to get comfortable so I’m hoping I will peak pain wise today or tomorrow. Friday will be 7 days , so I am praying the worse is almost over. Your UA-cam posts have really helped during this process, so thank you again.
Man that sucks! It's so strange how much people's experiences can differ with the surgery. The first day I felt almost nothing... guessing it could depend on the amount of anesthesia they give..? I'm not sure. Where are you at in your recovery now my friend?! Is recovery going smoothly? And thanks for sharing your experience with the surgery, hope you're having an awesome day!

@@worldisacruelplace Thats great bro, congrats for getting through the thick of it! I'm wondering, when you say it hurts bad is it a sharp pain.. an achy pain, or is it just really tight? I wonder if stretching would help at all if you haven't tried already?! Hopefully rehab and time fixes your hamstring up! Keep me updated on your recovery if you'd like, I'd love to hear! Have an terrific day my friend!
@@bijayapadhy7743 Hey there! It completely depends on if you partially or fully tore it. If you fully tore your ligament, it cannot heal on its own. You'll need surgery if you wish to play sports, do physical labour, or exercise again.. After surgery, from what I've read up, you'll be walking normally again in a few months. You won't be fully healed for almost a year though and that is assuming you've been rehabbing it properly! If you haven't already, go see a doctor and get more information about what you need to do! Wishing you a speedy recovery! 🙏
@@thewilder-side2990 Yeah they did.. I handled it a little stupidly though! I didn't like how the meds were making my brain feel so I stopped taking them after day 3... the pain wasn't worth it! You'll get prescribed meds too, I recommend taking them for at least 6 days if you want to get off them quicker when the time comes (my pain peaked between days 4-6)! If not, take them for however long you feel you need! I was prescribed Morphine Tablets, T3, and was recommend to routinely take Advil!

@@beckhamdiimmler8747
Did you opt for General anesthesia or the spinal one ?
@@xandersalemi Thank you for your kind words man! It really feels great to connect with someone with same situation 🫶🏻
Hi guys, @xandersalemi thanks for videos i am getting motivated since tomorrow ill have acl+meniscus surg. I am expecting everything and ready for fight but i just wanted to know which week was yours that you started JUST WALKING normaly without croutches?
Hey Arlind! 👋 No problem, thank you for supporting them! I am currently on week 3, and have just started walking a bit without them.. I still rely on one to move around throughout the day! My knee gets tired and super achy really quick! I've had a couple friend get the same surgery and they were walking again without crutches around week 4-5! Stick around on my channel and I'll keep you updated when I stop using them! Your surgery is going to go perfect tomorrow! Turn those nerves into excitement... once that surgery is done, your one step closer to being fully healed! Feel free to let me know how your recovery/surgery goes, I'd love to know! You got this!
I go on Friday, for ACL reconstruction and meniscus tears
@@thewilder-side2990 Hey Wilder, that's amazing man.. you must be a little nervous though haha (I know I was)! This surgery is a HUGE step in the right direction.. get excited! The first 7 days will suck, but things get better quicker than you think! Good luck with the surgery my friend, things will go smoothly! Keep me updated if you'd like, I'd love to know how things go! YOU GOT THIS!
@@xandersalemi thank you so much. I appreciate that and it’s very kind. I definitely will.
First night post op was highly painful to me... felt some one is cutting my leg
@@xandersalemi I'm in my 6th week... Everything's going good... Only concern is I'm unable to bend my leg while standing... My hamstring hurts bad then
@@worldisacruelplace Thats great bro, congrats for getting through the thick of it!
Hlo i got an acl by accident within how many days it will recover
@@bijayapadhy7743 Hey there! It completely depends on if you partially or fully tore it. If you fully tore your ligament, it cannot heal on its own. You'll need surgery if you wish to play sports, do physical labour, or exercise again.. After surgery, from what I've read up, you'll be walking normally again in a few months. You won't be fully healed for almost a year though and that is assuming you've been rehabbing it properly! If you haven't already, go see a doctor and get more information about what you need to do! Wishing you a speedy recovery! 🙏
Didn’t they give you pain meds?
@@thewilder-side2990 Yeah they did.. I handled it a little stupidly though! I didn't like how the meds were making my brain feel so I stopped taking them after day 3... the pain wasn't worth it! You'll get prescribed meds too, I recommend taking them for at least 6 days if you want to get off them quicker when the time comes (my pain peaked between days 4-6)! If not, take them for however long you feel you need!
I was prescribed Morphine Tablets, T3, and was recommend to routinely take Advil!
just tore my acl. i got an mri in a couple days…..
@@westinlemley3599 Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that.. what happened?
