Its different, the r8 v8 has its own engine, not related to the v10, the rs5 however is the same engine as used in the r8 v10 and gallardo, bit 2 cilinders chopped off, thats why it has that significant sound and a higher redline as the v8 used in the r8, the problem with these engines is they arent great in handling big upgrades like a supercharger, even if you build it to cope with it, the r8 v8 however is much more capable of handling those performance upgrades.
@@Sim_baah keep up the good work I have 17-GT350R would love a review on that. This Shelby is also a reason of why i bought RS5 natural aspirated high revving engines.
I am a 2014 Golf R owner and watching recent videos of the 2013 era RS5 has really opened my eyes to this real howler of a Q car. For me there is nothing boy racer about the thing and that is critical for me as spoilers and bolt on Halford bits would make me cower with embarrassment every time I drove any car so kitted out. It is one sophisticated refined powerful ultra rapid motor. I recall that the 4.2 V8 in the old RS4 required some quite specific service and maintenance to prevent the power output dropping like a stone so I assume the engine in the RS5 needs the same level of maintenance and service?. Does the car feel a little nose heavy in the handling department when pushed?.
Different motor than the 4.2 in the RS4, internals are quite different, it’s more similar to the 5.2 V10 so it should be lot more reliable. Had mine for about 9 months now, only relatively expense job is the carbon cleaning for around 1700, it was purely a precautionary measure and found out it wasn’t actually that bad… it’s actually better to drive it hard to prevent carbon build up. I considered a 2018 RS5 coupe, but it sounded like dogshit comparing to the b8.5 and it just handled so much better, the car actually wants to oversteer a little bit, but it’s a big heavy GT coupe so don’t expect it to drive like a M car.

In my case it was NOT the transmission itself, it was the flywheel that broke (I was the 3rd owner when I purchased it with 21K, so I really don't know how it was treated before me), during my tenure, I never used the launch control; but I did drove the card hard using a lot of gear breaking. What happened was that some of the teeth of the flywheel broke, creating an imbalance (which translated to vibrations on the car above 70 mph, I though it was the tires, and then I though it was the suspension); eventually the imbalance hit the bell or case of the transmission creating a real damage and a lot of metal debris which got into the transmission, damaging it. The car had 84K mi. Now, it really sucks, because replacing the flywheel is a labor intensive, but actually cheap thing to do; and you can find aftermarket light weight ones with better compounds, etc. So I agree with @Warren's statement below, you just need to be able to pinpoint the right issue. The whole repair, with an used OEM transmission swap was quoted at $12K (Aug/2020), with a new OEM tranny it was ($19K); I didn't go for any and traded in the car like that for $9K at the dealer. 3 months later, the dealer popped the car for sale on the website; one of the mechanics from the dealership bough it in less than 4hr after it was posted. I was just late to contact the sales person to re-purchase the car.

I hope not! 🤣🤣
Not true. There now is a cheaper fix without replacing the whole transmission.
@@yvanahernandez wow!!! Thanks for the story and insight. That’s crazy. Yea I wish Audi did a little better job on this car in regards to the transmission issues or faults or defects whatever you wanna call them
I cant make up my mind between getting the s7 or rs5
